Description

A priceless classic, MY FAIR LADY has become one of the most popular musicals of all time. Based on George Bernard Shaw's 1913 play PYGMALION, the film swept the Academy Awards. Cecil Beaton's lavish sets and costumes and Lerner and Loewe's winning score became the background for George Cukor's striking mix of styles that ranged from the fantastic to the abstract in his telling of the tale of a waif who's educated into being a lady. Egotistical linguist Professor Henry Higgins (Oscar-winning Rex Harrison) bets his friend, Colonel Hugh Pickering (Wilfrid Hyde-White), that he can transform Cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle (Audrey Hepburn) in time for an important society ball. His gamble could pay off--but the spirited Eliza is more of a handful than the Professor could have predicted. As she slowly becomes more refined, and less reliant upon him, Higgins realizes, to his confusion, that he can't live without her. The film was nominated for 12 Oscars and won eight, including Best Picture and Director.

My Fair Lady

One of the best musical in my opinion. Not only there were lots of good songs, excellent singings, incredible acting by some talented actors, the story itself was quite sexist but I think the point was not to tell the moral of the story, but to portray the way the English culture was really like in the 60's. Lots of good humor througout that the typical Hollywood movies are missing now a day.

Hey! Heres a hint...it's a musical. That is why it has songs. A huge and beautiful production with Audrey Hepburn as one of the stars. Best seen on the big screen.

My Fair Lady

Interesting plot. Some very nice music (not all songs, though, some I skip over, I admit). But "I could have danced all night", "Send me to the church in time", "With a little bit of luck", "Ascott" are very nice, I listen to them very often. Eliza is very funny. The scene at the race, for instance, is hillarious.

I thought it was a little long, but otherwise a good musical.

My Fair Lady

One of my favorite musicals of all time, and the film version was excellent. Audrey Hepburn did a wonderful job as Eliza Doolittle, and Rex Harrison WAS Henry Higgins, through and through.

My Fair Lady

One of the most overrated pictures of all time. A bland and flimsy retelling of the second-rate GB Shaw chestnut, featuring two non-singers in the lead roles. That's two strikes against you right off the bat. The score is ho-hum, the plot ludicrous, the acting only passable, and I can't remember the dancing in this film as it was positively unmemorable. Anytime you have your leads talking through...

My Fair Lady

Although the movie is nearly devoid of objectionable content (aside from the occasional profanity), there are two things that absolutely destroy the movie. First, the songs are extremely grating and annoying. Second, the sexism in this production is outrageous. No more is this obvious than the shockingly-inappropirate ending. The ending is completely different than the short story, "Pygmmalion,"...

Rex Harrison and Audrey Hepburn are perfect in their roles as Henry Higgins and Eliza Doolittle, but the songs certainly drag the movie down. A lot of them are a bore to listen to but a couple are pretty good.

My Fair Lady

An excellent and endearing musical, it's a very sweet story. I personally don't go for "chick flicks" (I'd imagine this would fall under that category), but I still enjoyed it. The scene at the horse race was definately my favorite.
