D-Link 2-Port KVM Switch

Strengths: Hot-key switch is handy. Good cable length.

Weakness: Cannot be used as a video-monitor switch only.

The user-manual's instructions (i.e., plug in all the cables, turn on both computers, etc.) must be followed in setting up this KVM switch in order for it to work. I didn't do this at first try and left the keyboard/mouse cables unconnected, and as a result couldn't get the video signal to come through. So far this KVM switch appears to work reliably with standard wired keyboard & mouse, but the wireless keyboard & mouse would occasionally lock-up and require hotkey reset (scroll+scroll+M key sequence) to return to normal. I have not tried the user-manual's suggestion of switching to generic ps/2 driver as a fix for this problem as I dread losing advance features supported by the manufacturer's drivers.

D-Link 2-port KVM switch

Strengths: sturdy cords, keyboard shortcuts

Weakness: need "Select" button on both sides of switch

My DKVM-2K switch works correctly. The cords seem to be sturdily constructed. The video connectors (HD-15 analog) are thumbscrew-type. Mouse/keyboard connectors are PS/2. Switching is performed via a "Select" button on what D-Link calls the "front panel". (To me, it's the rear panel, since it's the side that sends the leads to the KVM devices. I place the switch so that the side that sends cables to the two PC's faces me -- I thus can't see the Select button.) I'm able to switch between PC's with keyboard shortcuts (two presses on the ScrollLock key followed by "1" or "2" on the numeric keypad) and this works well. The switch beeps when the hotkey combination is used. If only one PC is connected and the switch is made to the other (missing) PC, the DKVM-2K will return automatically to the connected PC.

DLink 2port KVM Switch w/Built in Cables

Strengths: Cost, Ease of Setup, Keyboard Shortcuts

Weakness: Mouse will lock up occasionally

The setup for this KVM was extremely easy, just connect all the cables to each computer and hookup the keyboard, mouse and monitor and you're done. This item is a good value and easy enough for just about anyone to use. The mouse did lock up on me once, but I haven't had any issues other than that.

D-Link DKVM-2K 2-Port KVM Switch

Strengths: The switch was easy to install, the hot keys always work, and at a fair price.

Weakness: Seams to only work when the refresh rates are set to 60 Hz.

Works well for the money but I would not recommend using this switch if the monitor is under florescent lights since refresh rates are set to 60 Hz.

Great Switch after some tweaking

Strengths: Easy Plug-n-Play Installation

Weakness: A Few Errors in the intital setup

This switch does all it was intended to do. The installation was easy enough, simple plug-n-play application. Although I did run into a few glitches on the first couple of runs...

Apparently you can't switch while a computer is booting, you must wait untill you are fully logged into Windows otherwise windows has a hissy fit, and assumes there is no Keyboard/Mouse connected, and your SOL, you have to re-boot inorder to get it back up and running properly.

The HotKey's work great, and I have no complaints, just make sure you let windows boot on the current selected machine before you switch to the alternate machine.

Budget KVM switch

Strengths: Super cheap. Easy to install and operate.

Weakness: Beeps when switching. Refresh rate seems to be fixed at 60Hz.

A nice little switch that does what it's supposed to. For the price, you can't go wrong. It can be controlled via keyboard or a small switch on the front. It makes a fairly loud beep when switching between computers though, which can get annoying.

If you're not familiar with D-link products, note that the case is just lightweight silver plastic and not metal. The weight of the cables is enough to keep it from even laying flat. The cables are also fixed to the unit; some might see that as a downside, but you can always buy extensions if necessary.

DKVM-2K Looks good

Strengths: The cables are quite long... about 5 feet and secure

Weakness: Only controled by keyboard (scroll - scroll - 1 or 2), and it beaps at me.

Works good with my lazer mouse that has a usb to ps2 connector. It is good being that I never have more than two PCs on my desk at one time. For the price you can't beat it. Just watch out because everything is switching from PS2 to usb now days, and I know the usb mouses will work with the converter but not sure about the keyboards.

Great KVM Swtich

Strengths: Switches very quickly and works reliably

Weakness: None

This is a great entry level KVM switch for connecting two computers to a single keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Mine works great with a wireless keyboard and mouse. For the price, you cannot go wrong.

Weakness: Not USB for Keyboard and Mouse No DVI

This is a nice KVM Switch, from a good name brand company. This does its job and thats all i can ask. USB keyboard and mouse would be nice but ps/2 is fine. Overall a good product.

Great Switcher @ Best Price

Strengths: Easy plug and play setup. Quick and simple switching. Integrated cables. Great Price!

Weakness: none really

This is a great little unit for switching between machines or displays!
It really cleaned up my desk!
Simply hit Scroll lock twice and the number 1 or 2 to switch. A low beep lets you know you struck the keys sufficiently and in a quick second or two you're on the other display.
Or, there is a small button on the front that you may click once to switch.
To me it is great that the cables are built in and I never have to worry about them getting seperated or disconnected.
This is one of the best deals I have ever seen on a quality switcher that works so well.
My first unit had a problem. I called d-link and got quick and friendly help. Apparently it had a manufacturing defect in a cable. I had a new replacement within 72 hrs.
Super good deal here!

Good product - Great Price

Strengths: Cheap, very cheap... oh yeah, did I say cheap.

Weakness: None for the price

No complaints yet. I always have an extra PC project laying around and now I can easily access both without switching cables. Costs less than $5 after rebates. Great value.

Easy to install, works great.

Strengths: Easy installation and good price

Weakness: none so far

Easy installation and easy to use. It does what KVM switch suppose to do, it allows to me to use one set of
keyboard, mouse and monitor for two systems. If you need a simple KVM for a bargain price, get this one.

2port KVM Switch w/Built in Cables

Strengths: Compact size Price Space saver No driver files requires

Weakness: Heavy cable weight

Great space saver.I have a desktop and a laptop and this one helps me to share a single monitor/keyboard/mouse. Easy switching between the devices. Also it doesn't require any driver files. Price is also cheap compared to similar products.
The box is light weight but the cables are little heavy. Other than that I don't see any other weaknesses.

D-Link 2-Port KVM Switch w/Built-in Cables

Strengths: * Graphics Resolution - 2048 x 1536 * Platform Support - PC * Platform Support - Mac

Weakness: None

It is a great product for saving workspace while giving you control of two computers from one console. Its compact design with more than 8-foot, built-in cabling saves you time on installation, saves space on your desktop, and saves money you don't have to spend on cables and peripherals.

I don't have any problem to switch the computers or lose the Keyboard and Mouse signals.

DLink 2port KVM Switch

Strengths: Hot key toggle, led indicators is wonderful

Weakness: can't support usb device

The cabling is well-organized. I've used it to switch between multiple OS's such as Windows 98, XP and it seems to work well if your main concern is for space saving and you don't need both PCs on at the same time.

This KVM switch was bought a little more than two months ago. So far I like its performance. It’s quite small, and it’s very convenient to set up and use. I would love to recommend it to my friends.

Not too sure on this one

Strengths: Good price, includes cables, supports hotkey switching, nice high video resolution support.

Weakness: No sound support, functionality is suspect

This is my second KVM (different brand from first one). I haven't been able to get it to work right as one PC hung on booting up while attached to this KVM. Both PC's are Windows XP Pro. I'm not quite sure what the problem is (MB, KB, Mouse, PS/2 vs USB w/adapter, etc...). I do know that my other KVM does not have a problem running the same configuration, so it is not just my hardware to blame... and it does not affect at least one of the PC's.

I'm sure I'll get everything to work in some satisfactory way eventually, I just don't have enough time to bother with it at the moment. I'd say there are better KVM's available at about the same cost.

Not good for wireless products

Strengths: Linking two destops okay

Weakness: Linking a destop and a laptop, not okay

I have a desktop and a laptop. It thought this product would allow me to use the wireless keyboard and mouse and the 19" LCD that I have for the desktop. Well, I was wrong. The ports ae all wrong. I needed USB outlets not the keyboard and mouse connections.

Oh well, live and learn.

Very good for the money

Strengths: Plug and play is great! Easy keyboard commands to switch between computers. Small, connected cables, very easy to deal with.

Weakness: No USB Sometimes has problems registering the keyboard and mouse on the specific computer, the computer just needs to be restarted to fix this problem. Other than that its great!

When this arrived, I was suspicious of it at first, but soon realized that it was a good product. I had recently bought a cheapo KVM for like $10, and this was a HUGE upgrade, even though the price was not a huge upgrade. It is easy to use, and the keyboard commands are great. I think I will try to find a 4 port version of this KVM.

The only downside is that it does not use USB, so if you have like a 17 button mouse, it will only register the main buttons.

D-Link KVM Switch Gets the Job Done for a Great Price

Strengths: Price, easy to use, small form factor

Weakness: Only 2 ports, cables attach to both sides of box

This D-Link KVM switch, model DKVM-2K, is a great product at a reasonable price. I would recommend it for anyone looking for basic KVM switch capabilities. I use it to connect my main computer and a secondary computer that I use for troubleshooting and computer repair.

The unit is easy to set up and it worked immediately upon start up of the computers. I like that it is a small box that can be hidden away easliy. You do not need access to the box to switch computers. A few simple keystrokes will take care of that.

It is always nice to have more of something, so if you are looking for more ports... try another product. For me, the 2 ports is all I needed. The only draw back I see is the way the cables connect to the box. My previous KVM switch had all the cables in the back. This model has connections on 2 sides, which prevents me from placing the box on my desktop.
