Just what we needed!

Strengths: Accepts checks. Very fast. Easy to use. Good software included.

Weakness: Sometimes a little shift when multi-feeding sheets, but software allows easy fix.

We went looking for a scanner that could specifically handle a variety of check sizes and documents for archiving. Size was an issue since it needed to sit on the office manager's desk. Also important were speed and accuracy. This machine exactly fit our needs. Even when there is a shift in one of the documents, the information is still perfectly clear and if we have to have it straight on the page, a 3 - 5 degree rotation, easily done with the included software, fixes the problem. And this doesn't happen very often.
It's so great that the owner has me pricing the 2580 so he can have one on his desk, and he values his desk space.

Cannon DR-2580C document scanner

Strengths: compact, fast feed, double sided scanning, light weight

Weakness: None so far

This is the first dedicated document scanner that I have owned. I went paperless 4 years ago in my business, and have used all-in-one type printer scanners. I wish that I had purchased this Cannon 4 years ago, because I would have saved a lot of scanning time. The Cannon is light years ahead of any of any all-in-one printer scanner.
I would highly recommend the Cannon for anyone scanning documents into their business files.

Canon makes a great product

Strengths: Compact, speed, accurate, and crisp scans.

Weakness: None considering this is a high-performance portable unit.

Working in the document imaging field, I saw another guy using this product at a customer site. He told me how much he liked it, and that helped me decide on the DR-2580C. It works great on my desktop, and I can always put it in its bag for a client visit. It scans quickly and clearly, and integrates nicely with our Laserfiche document management system.

DR-2580C SHEETFED SCANNER

Strengths: Fast, Accurate, Easy Setup, Small, Twain, Isis, Duplex

Weakness: Must read the manual to master all features; Expensive, no filing or ocr software

This is a DREAM scanner for anyone with lots of paperwork. It was expensive but at 25ppm it seemed the best option to reduce my paper clutter. It comes with Adobe 8.0 and some Canon specific software that was fairly easy to use without reading the manual.

To gain full operation of this device you MUST read the manual. You have 3 programmable buttons that must be set up through the system to get them to work properly. Also, you have to choose the straight path for some items and it is important to know this to avoid damaging your device. You must also remove tape and install rollers before you use this device.

It can scan both sides simultaneously, and can save to pdf in either of the software that is include. There is no OCR or FILING software, so be prepared to spend more if you don't already have any.

The software is intuitive, but again to to maximize you productivity be sure to read. I love this machine and must say that it is absolutely worth its weight in gold.
