Maybe good, but not for me

Strengths: You have to get this one to connect to a camcorder with Sony's proprietary a/v format.

Weakness: Sony's documentation makes it hard to know what this would let you do.

I purchased this cable to connect my newly bought Sony DCR-DVD505 camcorder to the previous one - a Sony DCR-PC100e mini-DV camcorder. I was hoping this would enable me to convert my existing mini-DVs to (mini) DVD format. This cable (or its longer version) looked like the only option, since the DVD505 features that strange Sony proprietary av socket, while the PC100 has an S-video socket. The manual of the DVD505 has a section on how to use that cable for recoding from a VCR/DVD player with an S-video output to the camera's mini DVD, and I was hoping the same strategy would apply to recording from the other camcroder.

However, this doesn't work, and I'm not sure why. My best guess is that the PC100's S-video socket is for input only. I may be able to use the analog outputs with appropriate adapters to fit this cable (the PC100 also has firewire output, but that one is useless in this case).

My low rating goes not so much to this cable in particular, but to Sony's proprietary formats and poor documentation.
