Olympus CB-USB4 USB Cable

Strengths: Very easy to connect-it is idiot proof.

Weakness: The cable is fairly short. It would be nice for Olympus to offer a longer cable.

This cable connector was from Olympus, and not a 3 party generic cable. I ordered from one of the vendors listed on the web easily on 4/5/05, with a confirmation email sent after my order was placed. The product arrived on 4/8/05. I opened the shipment, and was able to use the cable within 5 minutes. The cable connected easily to both the computer and my digital camera. I was able to quickly upload my pictures from the camera to the PC. The cable was sturdy, and long enough to reach from the camera to the PC if the two units were in close proximity to each other. I store the camera with the cable, in case I want to transfer pictures at the last moment. I'm glad I purchased the cable, since it easily connects to the PC and the digital camera. The cable bends easily, and is not too stiff.

Short-lived cable

Strengths: Makes uploading from camera to computer quick and easy

Weakness: Died within 3 years

I am having to replace this cable for my Camedia 5500 after using it (lightly) for about three years (at least I HOPE it's the cable). My computer can't find the camera when I connect it now, so I am ordering a new one in the hopes that the cable is the problem. The mini B connection to the camera seems to be proprietary to Olympus and can't be substituted for a third party cable. Olympus carries this cable on their website but is usually out of stock and twice as much as Provantage's price.
