Decent 300GB storage size for the money

Strengths: 300GB is decent for media storage - can hold over 80k photos or 130 hours of DVD video, 7,200 RPM & 8MB cache, , SATA 150 MB/s interface faster than IDE, 3-year warranty.

Weakness: No NCQ support, newer/better SATA 2 interface already exists, 16MB cache desired

Got this drive for $100 after rebate, it runs great for daily usage and very happy about it. Now the newer SATA2 300MB/s version with NCQ support is at comparable price. If you are looking for faster drives, look at either the SATA2 version or the Raptor series with 10,000 RPM.

Adding a salave drive - upgrading

Strengths: It was a very easy to put the new drive in, just remember to set the jumper in for a salave drive.

Weakness: Not know as of yet.

I needed more storage for my photos - video files - music files. I just got the Western Digital 300GB hard drive, plus upgraded my rem-memory with (2) 512 chips. My only concern for right now would be the heat, but after I turn my computer on and going through the steps which was wonderfully so very easy. I noticed how fast my computer was plus moving photos, video, music files over which freed up my master drive. So to date I have seen no problems, but will write later on after I have had it for a month or two

Round-Up: Comparison Testing of 22 Hard Disk Drives

The WD3200JB sits at the pinnacle among Western Digital's UltraATA offerings in this review. As with so many other drives, this one features 7,200 RPM and 8 MB of on-board cache. The performance capability lags just behind the 400 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.8, but the purchase price is also sits at the high end of the range as well. While the WD3200JB lacks the command queuing feature found in its...
