Decent CD changer, pros and cons

Strengths: Excellent optical input sound, plays disks smoothly, nice design, decently priced on sale

Weakness: No on/off button the remote, slow seek time when changing disk to disk, unit feels a bit cheap

I got this 5 disk changer at BB because I had reward zone credits. I like the fact that it has the optical digital out. I tried the rca cables and the optical, and makes a huge differnce. I dont like that the remote does have an on/off button. Even if you have your own multi remote, you cant program it. I guess I can live with manually turning it on/off. Out of the box, the CD player plays disks well and can shuffle 1 disk no problem. When I shuffle all disks, the seek time and change time is a bit slow compared to others I've owned. The changer was decently priced around $130 but you can find better. If you want a basic CD changer and optical, this is great. OTherwise, there better one's with more features and faster seek.

Not good

Strengths: When it works, it is fine.

Weakness: It usually doesn't work.

We bought this about a year ago and it is in a room that we don't use much so we wanted a basic CD player. The changer has been used, maybe, a total of 5 times in the year that we've had it.
I tried using it last week and it wouldn't recognize that there were any CDs in the changer.
The next day it worked fine.
The next day, it wouldn't work again.(even tho the same CDs were still in the changer)
None of the tips in the instruction manual are of any help.
It would cost as much to repair it as we paid in the first place.
Don't buy one of these.

Sony Carousel CD Player - Best value system

Strengths: Disk exchange system, 5 cd capacity, direct access,fader control, volume control on remote!

Weakness: none found so far...

I needed something to replace my old single CD player,and this Sony fits the bill perfectly. It is a great work-horse, playing up to 5 hours of music effortlessly and without intervention. This model is a full-size unit for 19" rack installations. Best feature is that is cues up CD's quickly. Programming feature is nice to have but not essential. There is also a fader and volume control on the remote, great for older home stereos which do not have remote access. So far, after moderately heavy use this Sony has never missed a beat (literally); it has a great shock absorption system for damping out vibrations. This Sony CE-375 has earned a five star rating because it has exceeded all expectations at a very competitive price.

Weakness: absense of on/off function on remote

this is a fine changer, especially for the price we paid, but it's hard to believe, in this day & age, that sony would not include the on/off feature on it's remote. otherwise a great buy.
