ONLY PANASONIC AGAINStrengths: GREAT WITH WIDE SCREEN MOVIES Weakness: NONE I have owned an earlier version of this HDTV (50 inch)for nearly two years, and watch over 250 movies per year. The comments made in an earlier review concerning wide-screen movies are completely without merit. I watch a new movie almost every night (Netflix customer) and most of them are wide-screen (meaning there is some black at the bottom and the top). There is no PERMANENT IMAGE RETENTION PROBLEM (lines at top and bottom). It is TEMPORARY and will go away if you watch TV for five minutes. I also have a "white picture" on an SD card to clean up the screen in a minute or so, but I really don't need to use it. 91% of readers found this review helpful. GREAT PICTURE, GREAT PRICEStrengths: Sharp, vivid picture; Easy set up; Good price! Weakness: none After doing plenty of research I bought the Panasonic tcp50x1,a 50" model. What a great set! The picture quality is excellent, right up there with the 1080p sets and $400.00 less. The resolution is actually 1368x768p on the 50"set(the 1024x768p refers to the 42" model). Set up was simple and the price(on sale for $879.00)is hard to beat! Why pay more for a 1080p set-go to you neighborhood store and compare pictures yourself. It's worth a look-(faster, uses less power, with a better picture than last years th50px80u)-check it out! I love mine!! 88% of readers found this review helpful. Wonderful TV... Especially for the Price!Strengths: Great Picture, surprisingly good speakers, easy set up Weakness: Fixed based, limited adjustment options I waited until 2009 to buy a plasma (or LCD for that matter) tv because I thought they were overhyped. Furthermore, if I did not have HD, I felt that my old tube tvs had a better picture, and didn't cost me $1k+. 80% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Great PurchaseStrengths: Size for value; easy set up; Amazing picture Weakness: Non-turnable base I spent a lot of time doing research and decided that this was the one for me. The picture is incredible. The price set it in. After looking at some reviews I haven't seen any of the problems that anyone has reported. I definitely love it!! 75% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Great Picture for the Price!Strengths: Great movie like picture, screen size and value for your money, Energy Star compliant, most reliable plasma brand on the market Weakness: Free shipping... UPS shipped mine upside down but I was assured it was not a big issue by Panasonic and 6ave I used picture settings found at www.avsforum.com... and this thing rocks for the money. For under $1,000 you can't get a better picture or larger screen. Well worth it for the budget consumer tha 67% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Great TV for gaming...Strengths: Crisp colors and large screen. Weakness: None Do your research on 720p vs 1080p. My living room we are about 13 ft away from the TV and 720p rocks! 1080p only has an advantage if you are between 5-8 ft away. See no issues in gaming. Beautiful TV and worth the price! I recommend it for any gamer out there. 60% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Never Panasonic AgainStrengths: Great picture Weakness: Not for movies, Poor customer service, Terrible manual I thought I did adequate research before deciding on this Plasma TV. I was aware of image retention or "burn-in", but had read that newer Plasma TVs were less prone to it than older sets. I downloaded and read Panasonics manual before purchasing the TV. The manual raised more questions than it answered, so I called Panasonic tech support on numerous occasions. I was never told that watching wide screen movies on this TV would cause permanent image retention. At least not until it was too late. When I first stated calling, I was told that all I had to do was use the horizontal scrolling bar to remove any image. Now that my TV is ruined after one month of use, everyone I talk to at Panasonic tells me that I should not be watching wide screen movies on a plasma TV. No one at Panasonic cares about my situation or the damage to my TV. I have provided Panasonic every opportunity to make this situation right. They don't care about me and chances are they won't care about you if you have a problem either. This TV is probably fine if you don't plan to watch movies. 59% of readers found this review helpful. Nov 20, 2009 Static images left on the screen for too long get burned into the screen just like the static images did on crt tubes hence the reason for screen savers on pc's that have a lot of static images. What was burned on your plasma

Best 50" 720 Plasma!Strengths: Connectivity, color, blacks, size, sound, and very sturdy. Weakness: Remote control design and layout I bought this just prior to Black Friday. The price was as good as anything that I would have WANTED to wait in line at 1 AM in the morning to get, but the reputation of this TV is the main reason I decided to buy. I read all of the reviews, so I knew I could handle the cons (so few...!). First, I must say, I ordered the TV expecting it to take a week or more to arrive, but received it 3 days after the order. It was double boxed with no chance of damage occurring. Out of the box, the TV is immediately impressive. It really is heavier than other 50" teles, due to solid components. There are plenty of connectivity options for today's home theaters, as wells as some nice old school options! The connection panel is conveniently located and easy to connect all cables. Once the TV was turned on, it really did surprise me with the brilliance of the blacks and the vivid colors. I have the TV about 10 feet from the couch and the picture is magnificant! However, veiwing it at about 4 feet, you can see the difference between 720P and 1080P. For my size room and seating distance, there is no discernable difference between 720P and 1080P, the only difference being the giant savings for buying this tele. I've watched movies (non-Blu-Ray), standard definition television and HD television, and plenty of sports. The fast movement is amazingly impressive with the 600 hz sub field drive, crystal clear with virtually no "ghosting". All of the movie scenes where the screen should have been black, but were previously dark gray on my other tele's, are DARK BLACK on this set. Dark Knight was immensely better on this set than I have ever seen before. In all, this set was the best value given its performace, size, reputation, and durability. The ONLY negative I have for the tele is the remote, it's controls are attrocious, but, hey, who really uses their tv remote anymore!! 56% of readers found this review helpful. Panasonic TC-P50X1
THE GOOD: Relatively inexpensive; excellent black-level performance; solid connectivity with three HDMI and two component-video inputs. THE BAD: Inaccurate primary colors of green and red; faint diagonal lines visible in lighter areas; sparse picture controls; less efficient than similar LCDs. THE BOTTOM LINE: Although it requires more than a few picture quality tradeoffs, the Panasonic TC-P50X1... Top

Panasonic Plasma
Strengths: Incredible, Awesome picture
Weakness: None Yet
This is an awesome TV.
I had compared 720p and 1080p side by side and could not see a difference.
You beat this TV for the price.
