Turbo TAX Home and Business

Strengths: Good personal content and very easy to use once you understand how TT works

Weakness: No REAL business content. It is limited to Sch C type businesses which has very limited application. NO LLC, S Corp or Partnership content

This is a good product and if you have any rental properties you hold in your name this is perfect for you. Also Sch C work is fine. But for actual businesses you need TT BUSINESS. It is also very good

http://software.pricegrabber.com/financial-legal/Int...

Strengths: Great Product, I have used it for at least 15 yrs now. Growth in functionality have made it easier to use.

Weakness: none

Not only has this software performed the functionality of its design. It provides definitions and legal research for decisions. So, if you choose to use it as a learning tool the information is available. In addition there are instances where carryovers occur. The average taxpayer is not familiar with these. Consequently, they may not like one tax preparer and go to another, losing valuable deductions. Tax preparer's are only responsible for the information that they are given. For example; if you qualify as head of household and don't tell the taxpreparer, you won't get a deduction you are entitled to. This program gives you the option to evaluate your position and options that are legally available to you.

TurboTax Home & Business

Strengths: Overall, the interview process is intuitive. It's much more user friendly than TaxCut, although, in truth, I haven't used TaxCut for several years. So I don't know if it has improved.

Weakness: Occasionally, I find it difficult to track down the source of some amounts automatically filled in by the program, particularly from the previous year. And I can't change them.

After a learning curve of how TurboTax manages input amounts, I can move from the interview to the forms and back again without too much hassle. I like the look and feel of the program, and the interview process is fairly straightforward and easy to understand. The questions, unlike the forms, are intuitive and user friendly for the most part.
I still haven't gotten the hang of how the interviews don't follow a particular form. Instead, the program gathers information in its own way and places that info in multiple appropriate forms. It seems the gap between the interview and the forms has grown in recent years. It can be irritating to have to go through entire sections of the interview again to find or fix a problem on a form. If I don't already know the name of a form, I find it difficult to search for it.
Since 179 depreciations are so important to the self-employed, why not help us find and make those entries better in your Home & Business version. And just because I work from an office at my home, why do I have to pay the highest price for TurboTax? It costs too much.
