Great home office laser printer/copier multifunction

Strengths: Nice size for home office

Weakness: n/a

Unlike the other reviewer below, I have actually used this item to some degree. This item replaces my Samsung SCX-4725 Multifunction. My Samsung worked fine, but after using it for a year it started making a thin dark line down the page many times when making copies (is that a problem with the drum?). Anyway, I love the size of this printer, smaller than my former Samsung, but not too small. We bought it mainly to use as a copy machine. It makes great copies and prints great from the computer. I tried to set it up wirelessly, but couldn't do it yet, but only because I am not tech savvy in that area, not because of any problem with this machine. I have not used the fax yet. Replacement toner is reasonably priced if you shop around (I buy the high yield Brother TN360 toner for this item). Wish it had duplexing like the Canon Imageclass MF4150; would like to try that machine also to compare size and quality of all functions. I bought this Brother printer for around $225 (shipped) after coupon & it was on sale, at a store that only sells online. It runs around $275 to $300 (+tax and/or shipping) normally as of 05/2008.

BROTHER MFC-7840W ALL IN ONE PRINTER

Strengths: WIRELESS 802.1b/g, SMALL FOOTPRINT, nice print quality, Fantastic all around unit with Automatic Document Feeder

Weakness: Curls paper sheets and Envelopes

Retired My HP LaserJet 1220 All in one Laser after 4 years of use. No problem. THE BROTHER MFC-7840W ALL IN ONE PRINTER appears to be a good replacement. Wireless connection is a must is you are using a laptop around your home to access the internet or need to print out something. The Software Provided was easy to use. Setup of this Printer took about 3 hours to configure for Two Desktops and a Laptop. So far so good...waited for sale on this unit, Snagged it a Best Buy for $225.00 with a Price match from Costco even after they drop it from $308 to $339.00.

7840W wireless issues (Mac)

Strengths: Lots of great features for a reasonable price. Nice print quality

Weakness: wireless unit has issues on Mac

is garbage. I have to reinstall the drivers on almost a daily basis because the printers just stops responding. Issue happens on several different Mac's in my office. I own two of these printers - one at the office and one at home. The one at home was purchased when this first came out and has issues with envelopes jamming. I returned it and got a new one and the issue remained. The printers at the office prints envelopes fine but has issues with the wireless dropping. I am running Mac OSX 10.63 SL. To be honest I would pay a little more and go with a more sound machine. I have had issues with Brother printers in the past and guess I have to be hit with a brick several times to learn my lesson. No more Brother printers for this guy.

Never again

Strengths: See below

Weakness: Known, unresolved error with XP

I have owned several Brother printers in the past and have been very pleased, both by the printers and by tech support. When I brought this printer home, it worked fine in every mode but scanning, where I received a CC 3205 error. I immediately reported this to the Brother tech support line. They said they would send me a file to diagnose the problem. I never received the file, and just let this slide. Now (six months later)I am told that this is a known issue which has not been resolved, and that there is no time frame for resolving the issue. So I am screwed. I will never buy another Brother product.
