Turbo Tax

Strengths: The product does its job. It is now easier to switch over to the State program than in the past.

Weakness: Turbo Tax changed its form look up to be right on the main screen which hogs up screen space from the form you are working on.

While Turbo Tax has a winning program, it is more difficult to use in the forms mode than in the past. The form look up feature needs to be returned to the menu in order to increase the space available to see the form you are working on.

Extra charges

Strengths: I was a first time user and have nothing to compare it to but found it pretty simple. I liked how it downloaded my W-2 information from my employer on its own.

Weakness: Making Corrections

It charged me extra for the State filing. I paid $60 for it at a store because it specified Federal & State. I got charged $39 more to file the State. I looked all over the box and didn't see anything about an extra charge. Did I miss something?

I think you need glasses or better glasses if you say you read everything on the box and you did not see anyhting about State e-file not being included. Front of the box reads in capital letteres in easily visible yellow circle "INCLUDES FEDERAL F-FILE". Then on the back of the box under MAXIMIZE YOUR DEDUCTIONS it reads: "1 State product via download (Print for free or e-file for$17.95 per return)". It is really nothing difficult to see (not in small print or anything like that).

Strengths: transfers data from prior year (s)

Weakness: Cannot easily display forms and schedules and back-up data after completing.

The 2009 edition has changed significally from prior years, and the changes/revisions ARE NOT good!! Previously, the program was easy to follow, and easy to make corrections when error in entries were made. Gets the job done,-- marginally satisfactory, especially compared to prior years which I considered 5 star. Am considering changing to a different service next year.

2008 Taxes Completed without any Hassle

Strengths: Easy to download. Turbo Tax CD runs updates in the event that the software updates. Overall a perfect product for my semi-basic needs.

Weakness: The software does not make it easy to mail your State Taxes as apposed to e-filing, which is an additional $19.95. The software allows you to e-file free of charge, so take advantage of that.

Overall a perfect product for my semi-basic needs. I experienced no problems as the instructions were very comprehensive and easy to follow. I will set a Price Alert to receive my desired price using PriceGrabber.com and purchase Turbo Tax for 2009. Thank you.

TurboTax Deluxe Fed and State review

Strengths: Imported last year's info which saved some time. Gave me the option to download my W-2 from my employer; I still entered the data by hand. Kept track of the /- as I worked through the tax forms.

Weakness: Some confusion around 1099s that I can't quantify right now.

I used this to do some pre-planning before I turned over our tax info to our CPA. Waiting for the CPA's package some I can compare the two. For the 2007 tax year, my CPA found me a cpl of hundred more than TurboTax. Be interesting to see this year's.

Add on that I picked this up for just over $30 from Asena and you can't go wrong. Would not have paid full retail price for this product.

Had Stock Trades And it WORKS

Strengths: Easy. Quick. Fun

Weakness: I feel like they really campaign for you to efile the state. Enough already!

Really great product. I received it in the mail and efiled my federal the same day. It is really so easy.

I also had STOCK TRADES and MUTUAL FUND TRADES. They suggested that I needed the next higher version from Deluxe because of the stock trades...but this product worked just fine!!!

Turbo Tax - Highly Imperfect

Strengths: Intuit products allow greater access to online download of personal finance and tax info than competitors, but . . .

Weakness: Turbo Tax like Quicken is a big, clumbsy inefficient screen and memory hog.

I've used Turbo Tax of 21 years. If you like Microsoft products you'll like TT. I use both and dislike the way each new version controls the screen and limits user options to make it easier for novices. TT interfaces badly with other Intuit programs. Transfers of data from Quicken to TT regularly get garbled. Downloads from banks, brokers, etc. can't be controlled or easily removed unless you save each stage in an different file because some transactions carry across multiple tax forms. The only advantage is that MS Money & tax program are better in some ways, but worse in others, leaving most users trapped.

TurboTax Deluxe Federal + State + eFile 2008 (Full...

Strengths: *Ability to file multiple free e-filings. *Gets progressively more thorough every year.

Weakness: None observed.

Have used TurboTax since its origination. Each time I use a competitor's product, I am disappointed and come back to TurboTax. This year's version seems to be the best, most thorough yet. Though they seem to want to push you to buy the Premium version for handling investments, I have had no difficulty filing with the existing tools in the Deluxe version. Since I have to file for several of my kids, the multiple free e-filing was a nice addition to this year.

TurboTax Deluxe

Strengths: N/A Wasn't able to load software.

Weakness: Cracked disc; unable to load software.

When I attempted to remove the disc from the case, the disc cracked and thus I was unable to load the software. The pressure I applied was minimal. The disc appears to be of poor quality, unlike any I have ever experienced. The vendor who sold me the product said it was entirely my fault.

For the Computer Challenged

Strengths: Automatically goes into the next section required. Finds errors immediately before moving on to the next section. Ample opportunity to go back and make changes/corrections.

Weakness: None that I found.

I have been unsuccessful in completing my own income tax preparation in the past without having errors brought to my attention, thus, changing the amount I thought I was getting back. I admit that I'm a bit "computer challenged" and don't always get computer program instructions the first time. TurboTax was EASY for even me to follow and complete. My refund was deposited into my checking account within two weeks, and at the same amount I had requested to get back. I will definitely purchase TurboTax again next year.

Better than a tooth ache

Strengths: Loads first time, regularly updated, running counter showing taxes owed/due. Handles non-taxable pension income better than past years.

Weakness: Very poor at importing data from preveous year tax software (from competitors) ability to download W-2s 1099's is still limited

Have used this product and similar products for at least 10 years. Some years all the changes are better, other years they are not. All should do better job of importing data from exterior sources.

Turbo tax 2008

Strengths: finds all of your deductions

Weakness: poor interface with last years version

I really liked the product except for one thing, interface with last years version. You should be able to transfer all the information from last years taxes into this one. Well, last year I used the online version and this year I used the disk. It tells you how to do the transfer, but it isn't easy. I missed one step that was kind of vague, and I had to start my taxes all over after I had completed the federal portion. Other than that one thing, a pretty good product.

Turbo Tax Deluxe. Simpler than ever.

Strengths: Easy guidance through all scenarios

Weakness: Cost to process direct deposit of refund

I have been using TurboTax for the past 13 years. It gets easier every year. I always get a great refund and find that the guides are more intuitive than last years. I did not like the fact that I had to pay to process a direct deposit of my refund. I recommend TurboTax to everyone that I know.

Strengths: Both the Federal & State versions are easy to use and eFile.

Weakness: None

I've used TurboTax for more than 10 years. Each year the software just gets better and better. I have no reservations in recommending this product.

TurboTax Delux 2009 Estimated Tax

Strengths: Ease of use

Weakness: lack of information required to calculate estimated tax payment.

The problem I have with TurboTax Dexlux is in the estimation of taxes due for 2009. Using the information for taxes witheld in 2008 it estimated my quarterly Estimated Tax Due as $400. Due to the largest portion of witheld taxes in 2008 was from an IRA and the projected income for 2009 was $20,000 less, we would have a projected 2009 witholding of around $1800. I had to manually recompute my required 2009 estimated Tax quarterly payments that came up to $1200. Otherwise Turbo Tax is OK.

Pretty pleased

Strengths: Overall intuitive; easy updates; easy install; accurate

Weakness: A few screens were confusing; a bit slow for 2009 software in my opinion

Overall, I was pleased and would buy this item again. This year was especially good because of the free federal e-file; that was a big bonus. All in all it is a very intuitive piece of software and EXTREMELY helpful if you are itemizing.

Looking Forward to Improvements Next Year :/

Strengths: Transfers previous year data, more W2 downloads available.

Weakness: Interview process vague this year - had to search for some known deductions/credits and personal data entries.

I have used TurboTax for 15 years. Some years are smoother than others - this year's package not so smooth. Too many changes to the category views and interview process and some credits would have been left out if I was relying solely on the software interview process to "ask" about certain activities. As a consumer, I expect a familiar transition from one year to the next - Intuit fell short of that expectation this year. I trust next year's version will run a bit smoother.

Strengths: Thorough, helpful guide to preparing taxes

Weakness: having to pay for more than one state form

I have used Turbo Tax for several years and feel it is an excellant way to prepare taxes. It guides you through all areas completely and if very clear and easy to use.

Poor Support

Strengths: Good overall general tax program

Weakness: Incorrectly handles State of Alabama non-taxable income transferred from Federal (taxable income on Federal).

Poor customer support. Above error has existed for at least three years. Turbo Tax has been notified. Attempted to contact Turbo Tax customer support, but was referred to another site. Customer service stated that "We only handle software support, we do not have anything to do with changing the software at this location, so it is best that you forward your thoughts on to the development team". The other site did not have sufficient means to contact any one specifically, just a "general forum". I filled out report anyway, but received no reply.

Strengths: Product package is very good by having efile included. Along with the state return. Product is very helpful in guide you through the tax return questions.

Weakness: Small difficulty to review forms to very that information has been included.

Product is very good and I would highly recommend it to others. Software does everything needed to complete your tax return. It also offers professional help if needed.

Save time doing your taxes!

Strengths: Very consistent from year-to-year. Imports data from Quicken and the prior year's return. Saves time!

Weakness: With the constant updates, you wonder what was wrong with the previous version.

I buy this product every year, and am always pleased with how much time it saves me. I used EFile for the first time this year, and was very satisfied with its ease-of-use. My state taxes take hardly any time at all to do once the federal taxes are finished.

this is just like you'd have to pay $50+ for in the stores...it's the best price I've seen on this product for a long time. State is included which is a $30 value and 1 free e-file so it's a great buy

Strengths: can't think of any

Weakness: Failed to pick up installment capital gain

Used Turbo Tax for years but this year it failed to do its job. It asked for the interest on a previous installment sale but never asked for capital gain and we e-filed before we realized the amount of refund could not have been right. First time in 50 yrs. we had to send an amended form and check back.
