Apple iPod Photo 60GB MP3 Player

"Yeah, it's an iPod." Then you get to brag about the 60GB and that wears thin pretty fast. But you have to admit it's a super good looking player. You've read the millions of reviews so I'll only bore you with my thoughts...

$400 and no case? The dock may have been low on the list of usefulness, but come on Apple... this thing scratches if you look at it too hard. So the REAL price of this player is more like $440 after you purchase a decent case.

It takes a day or two to get used to the controls. My wife was so frustrated she tossed it aside and never looked back. The controls are simplified to the point of complexity. Menu is power on (but not power off--that's Play/Pause) but its also back... You'll get used to it, but I wouldn't advertise it as a feature.

The EQ is worthless. I found that ROCK works best and everything else sounds muffled or distorted. It's also a pain to browse EQ settings for the currently playing song. You have to navigate back a couple of menus then into settings then spin down to EQ. After selecting an EQ setting, you drop back to the settings menu. If you don't like that EQ setting, you have to go back into the EQ menu and start the dance all over. Why cant the EQ settings apply as I scroll past each one? The song will end before you have time to try them all...

Everyone loves the touch wheel. So do I--until you realize you don't remember the group, you have 7,800 songs and the one you are looking for begins with a "Z". After about 15 fast laps around the touch wheel it does accelerate, but I wish there was a faster way.

The battery life for me is pretty much as Apple stated. I am concerned that sometime next year after the warranty expires the battery will go poof and die. Apple hasn't done a good job making people like me feel better about the longevity of an iPod. Still, I did take the chance.

I like the album art when playing. When I used to play CDs (or God bless--my vinyl), I would always have the cover there with me to look at. It feels more natural having it displayed.

All in all, if you can convince yourself that a portable music player should cost $400/$440 then this is definitely one of the best ones to get, even with its quirks.

Apple iPod Photo 60GB MP3 Player

Strengths: Huge capacity. Sounds great(with non Apple earbuds). Looks great -modern styling.

Weakness: Does not include docking station.

I love my ipod photo. I bought the 60 gig photo ipod more for it's capacity than for its photo features. I am a huge music fan and own more than 1000 Cd's and they all fit on this tiny device and take up 15+ gigs(amazing). It'll be years before it will be at capacity. The sound is much better than I thought it would be, especially with non-Apple earbuds. For your buck this is the most bang you will get out of a mp3 player.

Bought 3 60GB iPods for our teenagers

Strengths: Great sound, easy to use.

Weakness: luckily, I read the reviews and purchased each teenager the cover...I'm so glad I did. I didn't like paying extra for it though.

Our 19 yr old figured the entire iPod out within a couple of hours and showed the other two. I was able to borrow one while walking and even with my hearing loss the earphones worked fine. Our kids were so excited Christmas morning...and their iPods don't leave their sights. I can't wait to buy ME one!

A cover is a MUST HAVE for these iPods, they scratch very easy.

I got one for my 14yr old daughter last Xmas. She spent the next 2 months teaching ME how to use it and the iTunes software. Ended up getting a used one in excellent condition with just about every accessory ever made for myself. We have done the 900mAh battery conversion to both units. I use mine with iTrip frequently when on the road. Either way, new or 'preowned' a tremendous value in my opinion.

High capacity, poor sound quality

Strengths: The storage capacity is good, size of the unit is okay for 60gb.

Weakness: Poor sound quality on some tracks when used with good headphones, EQ is limited to presets, scratches easily, interface is slow.

Interface is over-simplified to the point of being difficult. I have other players that are much easier/quicker to navigate and use (Rio Carbon). The stainless back and plastic lcd screen scratch very easily.

Despite being touted as very "user-friendly", the iPod interface is actually very slow to use. To compare you should try the interface of other places. For example, with my Rio Carbon I can easily hold the little player in one hand and choose songs and playlists quickly, change my EQ settings, etc without having to press "back" multiple times or re-navigate through the menus. The simplicity of the iPod interface makes as much sense as Apple's one-button mouse.

I also recommend researching the sound-quality issues which the iPod Photo family of players have. Search iPod forums and you will find plenty of info on this.

I'm selling mine on eBay, otherwise it is just collecting dust as I prefer my little Rio Carbon 5GB as much easier to use and better sound quality.

Awesome!

Strengths: Size, Form Factor, User Interface, Feature set

Weakness: Propritary Adapter, USB 2.0 only, 3rd party case is mandatory to avoid scratches

At the end of the day, after all the iPod bashing by all the Apple haters, this is still the portable digital music player to beat. The user interface is absolutely the best. The enormous capacity (best in class for its size), vastly enhanced battery life, photo capabilities and tight integration with iTunes are all features that stand out. Highly recommended.

iPod Photo 60GB ROCKS!

Strengths: Storage Capacity, Ease of Use, iTunes software

Weakness: FM Radio Transmitter sold seperately, No FM Radio Receiver available even separately

I waited for a long time to make my MP3 player purchase. It just didn't seem logical to spend $100-200 on something that had very little space!

At the time I was really interested in the FM Radio Receiver features of some of the smaller capacity MP3 players, so I could schedule a recording of certain radio stations at certain times. So far, every large capacity MP3 player does not have this feature and after considerable thought I realized there was really only one main show that I actually wanted to record and they had already switched to a female DJ whose voice is so irritating.

So, I finally decided to buy! After having it for 3 days now, I have to say that I am so glad I did.

I almost went with the Creative Labs Zen series, but opted for this Apple iPod after really thinking about how much market share it has, the amount of accessories, the amount of software, etc.

Now that I have loaded about half of my CD's using iTunes I must say that the process is very easy and fast, not speeding bullet fast, but definitely much faster and less painful than I had previously thought!

Apple iPod Photo 60GB MP3 Player

Strengths: I was very impressed with the quailty overall. The transfers were fast with the firewire. Nice sound and photos.

Weakness: Firewire/charging cable is not very long.

This is my first mp3 player. I looked all over the net and compared numerous brands. Then I went to a local retail store to get the salesman's opinion. He suggested this one and another worker there had one for me to actually play with a little bit. I was sold!

Very dissapointed with the sound quality

Strengths: 60GB

Weakness: Sound is weak!

I went for the top model at the time $520 thinking I was getting the best quality iPod to find that my friends 4GB mini out performs my iPod Photo by 30%+ when it comes to amplification. I don’t understand why this is not stated clearly by Apple. I am looking to return this item, as far as I am concerned, the item is faulty....If i wanted an electronic photo album at the expense of sound quality I would have spent my money else ware!

iPod Photo (60 Mb)

Strengths: Very large capacity, good sound quality, and intuitive controls.

Weakness: Still cannot get to function with docking station and home stereo

Was a little harder than I anticipated to setup originally, but seems to be working well now. Required several reboots of my computer to get things moving. This was the second iPod I received - the first had a defective battery and would not hold a charge.

iPod Phote 60GB 2nd Gen. MP3 Player--Cool &...

Strengths: Easy to use; large memory; ease of access to logical, well-organized files; click wheel.

Weakness: Included software hard to use.

This is a great product for all of the reasons listed above. You have to pay more for the Apple name and the larger memory, but by comparison to the cost of smaller memory units, it's definitely worth it. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in storing music or pics.

Pause, play pause, play, pause!

Strengths: 60 gigs of music is great, but having up to 25,000 photos is a little out of hand. Best go with the video ipod.

Weakness: Battery life isn't very great in the ipod. My 20 gig nomad zen lasted twice as long, but it was twice as large.

Everytime I play a song, it..... pauses by itself. It does this about five or six times before it warms up and plays normaly. For $430, I want this thing to work at top quality. Top quality is not what I payed for. especially with the limited warranty they back this thing up with.

iPod Photo 60GB 2nd Gen. MP3 Player - White (60GB...

Strengths: I think the color was much easier to see and use. Apply has really made the unit user frendly

Weakness: The battery life of the unit should be increased to be able to use for a londer period

The new unit is the best Apple has put into production. Unit works great--very easy to use and handle. Unit copies music very fast and very reliable. I recomned this unit to all age groups.

Strengths: na

Weakness: na

I bought this ipod some months ago when it started to buy in stock. During this time I find it very slim and beautiful for me to show in a crowd environment. I think it could be constracted very guy's eyes to see me. The audio qualify is perfect. But I feel it depend on the pc or mac very much. It is not possible to change some things without pc or mac. Such as deleting fold or mp3 and changing the folder from one to another one. So I think it could take some unconvenient to you if you want to change some mp3 without computer.
