D-Link DUB-C2 USB Adapter

Strengths: None

Weakness: Everything

I've installed the cardbus adapter, but it doesn't work at 2.0 USB speed. I've tried everything, including the latest drivers and instructions listed at the D-Link website. I sent D-Link an email the day I received it and still haven't received a response. Bad customer service and bad product. I do not recommend buying this item.

D-Link DUB-C2 USB Adapter

Strengths: Packaging looks slick, but it is misleading

Weakness: Doesn't work, website support is minimal, and phone support is heavily Indian accented and useless.

Purchased this adapter to run my Bus-Link USB 2.0 hard drive from my Dell laptop. The drive runs from the Dell's integral USB 1.1 ports, but not at all from the DUB-C2 adapter.
The Windows XP auto-installs MS drivers, but the device won't run from those drivers, so you have to go through a convoluted process to hammer the D-Link drivers in. When I finally got that fixed, I plugged in my hard drive, and the POWER LED lit up, but not the DATA LED. The computer wouldn't "see" the drive at all.

My drive works fine in USB 2.0 mode on my desktop computers, so I switched cables, and still got the same result.

When I called the support line, I waited for about twenty minutes to get a person on the line, and then he knew little about the product or the solution. He seemed to be reading from a diagnostic list (that could have been done on a web page). After going through his list, he told me the problem must be with the Bus-Link hard drive (that works in all my other computers). His solution was to contact Bus-Link to see if they had a fix for "their incompatibilty problem". ALternately, I should return the Cardbus Adapter to the point of sale (which happens to be a Fry's store about 1,500 miles away).

Just for the heck of it, I also tried connecting my Minolta and Sony cameras to the DUB-C2, and they didn't work either.

The packaging says the device:
1. "Plug & Play" - true, Windows found it OK - but installed the wrong drivers.
2. "Easy to Install" - Not true - You need to jump through hoops to uninstall the Windows drivers and force the D-Link drivers in.
3. "..runs all of your USB 2.0 devices.." - Definately untrue - I haven't found any devices that it will run.

I wrote to D-Link and suggested that they re-label their packaging and either list the devices that it won't support (as the phone tech told me my Bus-Link drive was incompatible), or perhaps much easier, list the very few devices it might support.
