So-so

Strengths: Small, 8GB.

Weakness: Slow USB. Clicks in MP3 playback. 9 seconds to switch tracks.

I'm only using this for MP3 playback, so I can't tell you about other features. I've loaded 1000 MP3s, totalling about 6GB. It took 80 minutes, even though it was connected to a USB 2.0 port. When I press the next track button, it takes about 9 seconds for the next track to display. There are some artifacts in the MP3 playback of some tracks. I don't hear them when I play these tracks on other devices. The radio sounded good. The display is bright and has good color. I just wanted something to replace a dead CD player, and this is good enough. As to whether I'd purchase this again, it depends on how often I notice the artifacts.

Pretty but slow and not intuitive

Strengths: Bright and clear display, cool graphic eq analyzer, nice radio quality, built-in clock with date, voice recorder

Weakness: slow to boot up, very slow loading .mp3's, use of tactile buttons are not intuitive, playback speed adjustment is a joke

Main reason for purchase was to listen to WMA DRM Protected textbook recordings. I also wanted to be able to increase the playback speed because the most of my audio textbooks are read too slowly (that is, the people who read the textbooks read too slowly for my tastes). The Transcend 850's maximum playback speed is 1.3, which for this device, I can hardly tell any difference from normal playback speed. Useless.
The use of the buttons on the front and side of this mp3 player are not at all intuitive. For example, to delete a file, you have to hold certain buttons for certain lengths of time, including the record button! Deleting a playlist can be a nightmare, with odd coordination efforts between the player's interface and Windows Media Player. If you get it wrong, you have to search for and delete each file individually by that nonsense holding of the record button at the right moment for the right length of time. Uh! I should probably have spent a little more money to get a Samsung!
