Kingston 8GB Elite Pro 133x CF Card

Strengths: 133X speed, price, large capacity, dependable name product

Weakness: none

I've used Kingston products in the past. From smaller CF cards to thumb drives without any problems. I used this card on my last vacation. Shot over 1,000 photos and gone through many airport scanners with no problems. I have an Olympus E-510 DSLR that fires 3 frames a second and this card didn't hesitate. I'm not going to do math and compare apples. Unless you work for National Geographic or cover the Indy 500, this card will meet your needs as it did mine.

DEFECTIVE / BAD CUSTOMER SUPPORT

Strengths: NONE

Weakness: ALL

I format the card inside my Canon 5D as I have always done with other brands. I started taking pictures (RAW) and after 3/4 of the card's capacity, the camera showed a warning saying that it was not possible to read data. I insert the card into the reader at home and it shows the card but it doesn't show any data.
Anyways, it does show that there's available only 2.84GB. So I thought I could retrieve the images.
These images were taken on a trip to Zion NP so these images are worth a lot (money). This has never happened with any of the brands I have used before, not to Sandisk neither Lexar cards (which are the only ones I buy). I called technical support for instructions and software on how to retrieve this data, and they say "We don't give software" so you have to buy it. This is bad service. The guy was not helpful at all. I was not looking for compensation for the images, I asked politely for help and given the fact it was a defective card, I needed (wanted) the MediaRECOVER software that comes with the CompactFlash Ultimate 266X. I receive a mean NO, we don't do that...

In my 10 years using CompactFlash cards this is the first time a card has failed, maybe because I only use Lexar and Sandisk.

I will never buy any kingston product again in my life. I suggest you don't buy from them, you are warned...

Very frustrating and sad situation.

Does not play nice with Canon XTi

Strengths: Large capacity, decent speed

Weakness: constant corruption, lost data

These seemed like decent cards at first, and at a great price. I bought one when I got my camera, and it was great. I was going to SE Asia and wanted to take loads of photos, so I bought 5 more cards (tons of room, yay!).

However, after taking lots of photos and filling the cards rapidly, I started getting "Problem with CF Card" errors. This resulted in lost images from my vacation. I was stuck high and dry and basically had to hope that the next days worth of photos wouldn't get erased.

Never again will I purchase a "non-pro" grade card. It's not worth the savings if you are serious about photography.

Kingston 8GB Elite Pro 133x CompactFlash Card

Strengths: Great speed and capacity with low cost

Weakness: none

This is a great CF card. It is fast and reliable. It works well in my Canon 5D. I purchased this with a nice rebate so I couldn't pass this up. Highly recommended.
