Sony MZ-S1 S2 Sports NET MD Walkman Player/Recorder

Strengths: Extremely high durability, water resistance, LONG battery life, compressed audio (5 hours lp4), line input recording, backlight.

Weakness: Inability to upload to pc, sonicstage software, cheap headphones, slightly low volume.

I have had this minidisc player for a year and a half and it has NEVER failed me. The strongest thing that I can say about it is it's extreme durability. A couple weeks after I purchased the S1 it fell out of my pocket while I was on my bike. It dragged along on the sidewalk from my headphones without a skip! I use it in rainy weather constantly and have never found water to be an issue. This minidisc recorder has a very fast transfer speed from a fast computer and I make good use of the LP4 format fitting close to 6 hours of music on a disc. The battery life is also outstanding. You can actually get more than 54 hours on one battery if using good NIMH batteries. I usually go for about a week of school with the low battery light flashing. I use the line input to record songs that my band makes. It is much easier than being by a computer. The backlight is quite bright in darkness and has come in handy countless numbers of times.

On the negative side, it would be nice to be able to upload my own recordings to a computer. The software provided really stinks (I recommend the RealOne player plugin instead) and the headphones are very cheap. If you go out and buy yourself a nice pair of headphones, this should not only fix the sound quality issue but the low volume issue as well. The bass boost works quite well on volumes under 24. After that, it seems to be inneffective.

Overall, I highly recommend the Sony MZ-S1. I paid $125 for mine and I still do not regret it. Even though I am now purchasing a Sony MZ-NH900 for the new HiMD features, I will not get rid of my S1 because of its durability and being easily able to take it anywhere without worry of it getting ruined.

Sony MZ-S1 S2 Sports NET MD Walkman Player/Recorder

Strengths: I believe this is a great player, much better than any Mp3 player, because there is no limits to the amount of songs it holds. Also the battery life is amazing (54 hrs on one AA).

Weakness: I really liked the headphones because they didn't have foom on them and sounded really good, but then they broke.

I would highly recomend this product to anyone who is thinking about buying an MP3 player. It also comes with Sony's Open MG Jukebox, which is a good digtal music manager for how simple and easy it is to use. The player may be considered "a little of the heavy side", but it is so durable and has never skipped.

Sony MZ-S1 S2 Sports NET MD Walkman Player/Recorder

Strengths: Ease of use. Easy to carry. Very durable.

Weakness: Don't care for the headphones that come with it. Prefer the behind the head headphones for workouts.

I bought this item at christmas and have recorded 6 disks that I listen to at the gym and while studying. This item has been dropped SEVERAL times with no ill effects. It is easy to operate during workouts. I use rechargeable batteries and the one battery usually lasts longer then two batteries last in a regular portable CD player. It is small and easy to hold if necessary.

Sony MZ-S1 S2 Sports NET MD Walkman Player/Recorder

Strengths: Good looks, Battery life, Water resistant, Durable

Weakness: Software provided sucks, Headphones aren't good enough, A bit expensive, Heavy (compared to other sports model),

Battery life is awesome, 54 hours. For the software, Use Realplayer Jukebox, and for headphones, buy a new one. I have always bought a Sony, and in future also will buy a Sony, because it is worth it.

Sony MZ-S1 S2 Sports NET MD Walkman Player/Recorder

Strengths: Records in mp3 or CD quality, which makes it the most affordable mp3 player out there. Discs are more affordable than any other flash media.

Weakness: MMMMMM...can't think of any right now.

I use this during hockey practice, I've taken some spills and it still hasn't skipped on me. I've got some cool graphics on my Mini Discs and a sport arm band. I love my Sony MZ-S1 S2 Sports NET MD Walkman Player/Recorder.
