IOGEAR GIC220U USB Adapter

Strengths: Cheap

Weakness: Causes scanner to fail

I didn't have much luck trying to make this card work with my scanner. It is a Canon Canoscan 5000F USB 2.0 scanner. When I plug in the scanner to the IOGear card, I often get messages from the driver saying that it cannot communicate with the scanner. Sometimes, it appears to work, but when I try to scan a picture, about half way through, I get an error message saying that the driver lost the connection to the scanner, and that I should check that the scanner is still plugged in. Replacing the USB cable did not solve the problem. However, the scanner works fine on another computer which has a different USB 2.0 card. I finally decided to replace the IOGear card with an Adaptec USB2Connect card, and the scanner was worked perfectly ever since.

IOGEAR GIC220U USB Adapter

Strengths: lowest priced usb 2.0 upgrade card

Weakness: eats irq's like pac-man

KNOW THIS B4 YOU BUY!...this card grabbed the free irq(3) my sound cards irq(5)and the existing usb irq(10)...so far there have been no conflicts with my sound card and this new card...the most positive thing i can say is that it works.i called TS and got this answer "we have had no complaints about the card sharing the same irq's with another card"

i was told as a computer rule of thumb: two cards or devices cannot share a single irq. i was told by IOGEARS TS that "its alright somtimes to share the same irq"
Who is Right and Who is Wrong????

Not working in my Mac

Strengths: cheapest USB 2.0 card

Weakness: not working in my Mac

When I boot up, my mac complains that the USB port is drawing too much power and will be shut down.
If I continue, I get I/O errors in my system.log (written once every second) until I disconnect all devices from it.
Also, it is interfering somehow with my existing USB 1.1 card, thereby preventing my Palm Pilot from successfully syncing on that other card.
