Promise Technology Ultra133 TX2 Ultra ATA Adapter

Strengths: The hard Drive is recognized SO? BIG DEAL!!!

Weakness: The company, the controller, and the speed. NOT what they Promise !!! Buying the Multi-Pack, Just gives Multi Problems!

I've had this controller, along with the Ultra100 Tx2 for 3 months, and DON'T recommend BOTH to anyone.

I'm an Electronics Design Engineer and tried to tell Promise Technologies the problem with the controller not working with CD-RW - DVD's along with the Hard Drive connected at the same time is the fault of THEIR hardware, not MINE !!!

If the Hard Drive is at IDE#1 & the CD-RW is at IDE#2, the controller won't see the CD-RW or boot from bootable CDs of ANY type.

I found, if the CD-RW & DVD was connected to the IDE#1 port, and the Hard Drive connected to the IDE#2 port, then the CD-RW & DVD would be seen, together with the hard Drive.

** BUT **

If you do that, then your CD and DVD drive is put before the logical drive letters of the hard drive, and things get messed up when working with Windows2000 and Win98 using BootMagic - Partition Magic.

** & **

The CD-RW didn't boot from bootable CDs made using ROXIO EZ CD Creator v5.1 and v5.3 (not EZ CD creator's fault-(CDs seen if CD-ROM connected to MoBo IDE)-but did see the bootable CDs if it was an operating system bootable like Win2000 or XP using this type of connection - now THAT'S strange, cause when the CD-RW is attached to the Motherboards IDE controller it boots from ANY bootable CDs.

I can't recommend this controller, or the company. Their "TECHS" just make excuses, and don't want to address the real problem. THEIR HADWARE SUCKS (& POSSIBLY THE BIOS TOO)

Don't buy it!
