Works as advertisedStrengths: Has worked with several ATA drives and one SATA drive. All adapters included. Weakness: Instruction sheet photos should be larger. Over the past year, I have used the adapter on several ATA drives, Maxtor, Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital. Also, one Maxtor 500GB SATA drive. Competent and convenient. Purchased from Cyberguys. Good till 500GBStrengths: Very high quality cables and plugs. Has on/off switch which is very convenient. Works on all drives 500GB or less. Weakness: The AC adaptor only outputs 1.5 amps and may be too weak to reliably power drives over 500GB. I have several 750GB SATA that are hit or miss getting detected. It took me a minute or two to realize on the power cord there is an inline ON/OFF switch. I like it because I can leave everything plugged in and flip the switch to get the HD to stop spinning. It is not really a pro or a con, just never had that option, Be aware of it because I almost thought I had a DOA. Till I figured out the switch was off. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Great all-in-1 gadget
Strengths: Works on SATA and IDE hard drives and all CD/DVD drives; all power, data cables included.
Weakness: SATA connection on top of the unit; short SATA cable
This is a great little gadget to do quick data transfers between all types of hard drives, SATA, PATA, notebook, you name it. You can also use it to test your CD/DVD drives (SATA or IDE), and even do some burning while you're at it. All at fast USB2.0 speeds. So far I've tested it on a WD 500GB SATA drive, a Liteon SATA DVD burner and Samsung SATA DVD burner. All worked perfectly. It's very portable (well, unless you take the AC power brick into consideration :)) The unit even has an ON/OFF switch so you can power on/off the device without having to yank the AC adapter. The only thing that I wished they'd done differently here was place the SATA adapter on the side, rather than on top, so you didn't have to attach the SATA device at 90 deg to the device: a bit awkward, made a little worse by the extremely short SATA cable included. But if you can overlook these minor design flaws, this truly is a great contraption, and lets you do away with an external enclosure altogether if that's your preference. Two thumbs up for Vantec for a quality product, and Newegg for excellent order and delivery experience.
