Onkyo TX-LR552 A/V Receiver

Strengths: 1. Slim design 2. Most of the commonly used input/output sets 3. Very audio/video switching 4. Excellent Sound quality, as expected for any Onkyo receiver 5. Good speaker auto-detection capabilities

Weakness: 1. Bulky Remote, heavy to use with sharp edges 2. No front RCA video inputs 3. Back panel is slightly cluttered 4. Incorrect information in manual, says 2 coaxial + 1 opical - but actually opposite

Quality of sound is very good and is on par with any other Onkyo receiver. The width of the receiver is the standard 17", which is common for most of the DVD players. This would make your living room look very neat & tidy. The volume control knob is really cool to operate and see at night. Except the remote control which is very very bulky, everything is positive on this receiver. I am using this with Klipsch Quintet II speakers and the sound is just superb.

TX-LR552 Receiver: Good receiver for

Strengths: Overall good receiver, if you can get it for less $200. 65W is enough for home use.

Weakness: No front video/audio input

Slimt design, Good quality of sound. Cool looking. The thing missing is front video/audio input. I use it very often for displaying camcorder video. It's good if you paid for less $200.

Onkyo TX-LR552

Strengths: Audiophile sounds on a budget; all video inputs upconverted to component output; remote full of controlling features

Weakness: Only 65W/channel; bulky remote

At a sale price of $99 which is about one fourth of the regular price, you could not get another receiver better than this Onkyo TX-LT552 digital Amp receiver. The sound quality is clean and clear and powerful enough for a bedroom theater setup albeit its maximum power is limited to 65W/channel. Unlike the Kenwood digital amp VRS-N8100 which has a little bit more power up to 100W per channel and could drive a passive subwoofer, this Onkyo TX-LT552 only supports a powered subwoofer. However, it is very quiet and pleasant for any music listening as well as movie watching with dolby surround sound of 5.1 to 6.1. There is no background noise caused by the cooling fan as in the Kenwood VRS-N8100. Since all video inputs are upconverted to component output, it is very convenient to hook the Onkyo TX-LT552 to a digital display monitor via the component output connectors. The remote is a bit bulky but you get all the control features you need for a theater system. Two thumbs up.

A great receiver for your home!

Strengths: Very slim and stylish design; good sound quality comparable with more expensive receivers from Onkyo; enough A/V inputs and outputs for normal home use;

Weakness: No frontend A/V input; remote control is hard to program

Bought it at my local fry's electronics store for $99 out of door. At that price, I am very happy about it. Its design and sound quality do not get downgraded beacuse of its low price. In fact, its design is much better than my old and much more expensive SONY receiver. So I am highly recommended if you could get it less than $150!

I Love this Receiver - Disregard the numbers, and...

Strengths: Looks Great, Small, Easy to use, Easy to read. Sounds Great. Inexpensive (Under $200)

Weakness: Difficult to find to purchase. Bulky - scary remote (too many exposed buttons).

I've been doing audio for 25+ years.. this is a GREAT receiver. Disregard the poor numbers and take a listen. In just a few years I predict the bulk of us will be using small efficient digital amplification in nearly everything. Only the most esoteric purests among us will stick with Analog, but they always do. :-)

I purchased one of these for my parents that are getting a little older and don't like things too complicated. I needed a replacement for an old one of theirs that was failing. We had size limitations, and I wanted to keep it simple (after Initial setup). It turned out to be a great purchase! What a pleasure to use and listen too.

My mom just loves it, says it's very easy to use. My dad can actually hear the news now. no muddled middle channel.

Give Digial a chance! Take a listen.

Excellent value

Strengths: Variety of inputs, ease of setup, slim, lightweight.

Weakness: Only 4 number of inputs

This is my first receiver and has been serving me well so far. It kind of has only four sets of inputs, and it is surprising how quickly you surpass that limit as I have dvd player, vcr, tv, PC, photo viewer, camcorder etc. needing to be connected, but fortunately some of them are connected only occasionally so I am managing for now. Also, it only does up-conversion no down-conversion, so I was unable to connect a dvd recorder that had no s-video output, as the highest quality of input my tv takes is only s-video. Other than that, this I think is a very good receiver to get started. I purchased Athena Micra 6 speakers for a the hall of a small 1-bed apt. and it sounds great. I also bought a logitech harmony remote and it makes switching between the inputs a snap. I hope someone finds this information of use.

Great looking receiver

Strengths: clean looking, silver color, dimmable display(the blue dial is super bright unless you dim it), optical inputs

Weakness: clumsy remote

This is a great reciever for a bedroom or somewhere you don't want huge AV components taking up space. The remote is large and bluky partly because this unit has so many features, which is impressive for it's small size. I will admit I bought it mostly for the size, style and silver color and because it is DTS capable. Sounds great as well, I use one of the two available optical ins fed from a dvd player. I paid 200 and I would buy again.

Perfect for the price

Strengths: Design, Sound quality, Available inputs/outputs

Weakness: Ugly remout control

I got this receiver for a very good price at one of the Fry's sale and I am very happy with that. The sound quality is very good and it has enough AV inputs and outputs for most home users.

Onkyo TX-LR552 A/V Receiver

Strengths: Sound quality, slim design, video upconversion.

Weakness: Not sure.

So far I am very happy with this receiver. Seems to be very well built. This unit has replaced the much more expensive Nakamichi unit and the sound seems to be just as nice. Highly recommended.
