Nice Inexpensive DVD Player

Strengths: Price, Quality of Construction, Picture.

Weakness: Speaker Volume

I'm happy so far with my purchase of the TF-DVD7100 player. On the first day, I played it for eight hours to help burn it in and to make sure that everything worked fine. It exceeded my expectations in picture quality and performance. I was expecting it to get a little hot after eight hours of playing but it maintained a cool temperture. The only downside I found was the speaker volume is a little weak. The speakers are useable if there is no other noise in the room, but they could have about 25% more volume. With my limited experience with the 7100 I would rate a 9 out of ten.

Don't Buy

Strengths: good at first

Weakness: Everything

This thing is a piece of junk, don't waste your money with it. I had it for less then a month before it broke. I used it ten different times or so and the screen went blank. It would play music though. The remote didn't work when I got it, so beware of this product. I say buy at your own risk.

Coby TF-DVD7100 7" TFT Portable DVD Player

Strengths: Portable, can jump to menu without having to view copyright and trailers. Accessories galore! Price. Nice wide screen.

Weakness: bulky

We purchased this model for an airline trip that lasted more than 4 hours. On layovers, we would find an outlet in the airport to recharge the battery. Not once did we run out of battery on the plane. In our car, we plugged the player into the cigarette lighter outlet. The player worked awesome for the kids because of the remote that came with it. The screen is bright, the player worked great and the accessories that came with it were welcome. The only downside is that it is bulkier than I expected. This is really a nice unit and for the price, I wouldn't hesitate buying it again.

Portable DVD player

Strengths: Good picture, plays most formats (DVD, DVD-R, etc), ease of use

Weakness: Speaker volume

We bought this for a long flight trip. The battery lastd the whole trip and could be plugged into the cigarette lighter in a car (great feature). The only problem we ad was that the speaker volume was nowhere near as loud as it should have been. In an airplane with roaring engines and people talking, I still could barely hear the movie with my noise reducing headphones on.

So, if you plan on using this in a fairly quiet area, this is definitely a great product with a good price. However, if there will be more than just a minimal amount of noise, look into something a little louder.

I bought one (7100) in ABC Warehouse. It played few days all DVD (from Europe and US) perfect. Than started freezing.
Any disk (original or burned) (US or European) just freeze picture after some time. So I chaned it for another one.
But it was floor sample. It didn't work at all. So cash back.
But I need nice portable DVD Player which plays all region DVD's... for decent price.
There is a Cyberhome 7" model 707 but I'm afraid than it ill be a same piece of junk.My Cyberhome DVDR 1500 is winnig price of JUNKS of World. There is not worst company on the market than Cyberhome with nonexistent Customer Support.
So? Now what? What to buy? I need portable DVD player (PAL/NTSC).

Coby TF-DVD7100 7" TFT Portable DVD Player

Strengths: Great picture quality.Widescreen is nice for widescreen only settings on DVDs.Nice controls for forwards, rewind, play, pause, stop on top of unit so don't have to use remote.Lightweight remote.

Weakness: Sound from front two speakers when not using headphones could be higher for noisier situations.

I was a little hesitant on buying this item given the low cost and few reviews, however, I am verypleased so far. I had also never heard of the Coby name for Electronics but so far, this little portable has proved to be worth my time and money. DVDs play nicely and the sound and picture quality are good. Also, it has a nice screen saver for when you pause a video over a certain time limit. It comes with everything you'd ever need for charging up the battery. The only thing I had to get was a jack splitter for the headphones. In the future, I want to purchase a carrying case but Coby does not seem to manufacture any specifically for this unit.

Good deal

Strengths: nice sized screen, great product for the $

Weakness: sound quality less than par

I have been playing around with my new DVD player for two days now, and I am quite happy with my purchase. The 7" screen is big enough so that someone in the back seat can see the screen when it's in the front of the car. The speakers aren't great, but what can you expert from something so small and portable?

Coby TF-DVD7100 7" TFT Portable DVD Player

Strengths: portable, easy to use.

Weakness: poor sound quality.

This product is terrific for long trips. However, the sound quality from the speakers is fairly poor, and it is difficult to hear anything, particularly when the car window is down. The headphones do help, but allow for only one person to hear the movie, music, etc.

Good Value

Strengths: Price. Ease of Use. Lightweight. Simplicity.

Weakness: Size of screen. No case.

We purchased this DVD player to entertain our Toddler on an overseas airlines trip. Great value for the money. Picture is crisp, sound is good, and light enough to travel easily thru airport. She is excited that her Disney movies are now portable.

Only drawback was that it did not come with a case.

If you are the type of person who only wants a cell phone for making phone calls (not to take photos or play video games) then this minimalist DVD player will more than meet your needs. If you are looking for bells and extras, this may be too barebone for you.

Breaks Easily

Strengths: Inexpensive with good size and sound (when there is no background noise). Also, the battery has a good life span.

Weakness: Throw a barking dog into the mix and you can't hear a thing. It is also a little big to travel with.

I take very good care of my electronics. Maybe I'm actually to cautious with keeping them dry, elevated, clean and away from any animals, dust or kids. However, I have so far had the one I bought in March 2005 break and it's replacement in Nov 2005 just broke today (Jan 19, 2005). Each time the Player decides to say "No Disk," and refuses to do anything. This really makes no sense to me. So far Customer Service has been nice (although they haven't given me anything free yet!), but I only wish I had bought a higher quality player so that I wouldn't have to deal with this waste of time and money.

I took my new Coby DVD player on my first trip to Cobo San Lucas in Jan. 06. This machine made the trip for me- no, TV, Radio, Telephones, etc,
The beach is fine during the day, the nights are another story. My wife had bought me the entire colection of the old Charlie Chan movies whitch i took along with me.
Some of these old movies had a problem with low sound and I had to use earbuds to hear them. Most of the movies I could hear fine, and I only have about 15% of my hearing in one ear. I also wear a hearing aid in the other ear to pick up a slight loss of hearing in my other ear.
There was some freezing of the picture on some of the disks and would not continue to the end of the movie. I do blame atleast some of the DVD disks, but over all I enjoyed my machine. I will make sure that I always have some earbuds with me from now on.

Coby TF-DVD7100 7" TFT Portable DVD Player

Strengths: None

Weakness: Extremely poor sound quality - when traveling in the car, you could not hear it.

We purchased this portable DVD player to keep our children occupied on a long, driving trip. Unfortunately, the sound was so poor, we couldn't even use it. Even in the house with the volume turned all the way up, it was barely audible. I read reviews where people praised the sound quality, but this was not the case with the DVD player we received. I am returning it as defective since the lack of clear sound is a serious problem. We were EXTREMELY disappointed in the poor quality of this product.

Perfect sized Player

Strengths: Inexpensive, available Video Input

Weakness: Reliability, Cheap Plastic. Warranty

It was a good player while it lasted. Bought it on recommendation from a friend. The video rendition on this player is good, DVD startup time is minimal, audio could be better. The best part of the player is the video input (the possibility to accept external video source). Not even most expensive players provide this feature.

Both mine and my friend's player suddenly stopped working within 7 months of purchase. None of the players was abused or overworked.

Warranty is limited to six months. Most of the review I saw on this forum are limited to within 2 days to 2 weeks. So this might give a different perspective.

Breaks easily

Strengths: Great picture

Weakness: Speaker sound

I loved this dvd player, I have had this less than a year and it broke for no apparent reason. It was not abused or missused. The cost of repair was more than cost of a new one. I will not buy Coby brand again. I recommend getting a more reliable brand, and an extended warranty.
