Unstable

Strengths: Digital inputs - Upconvert video - On screen menu - multi-room - lots of options to modify -

Weakness: Unstable - chatter from relays - not recommended if your a channel surfer - bass response

My Harmon AVR-525 has a week channel, so rather than fix it I researched and got this unit. It worked for about two weeks then died. I read the manual and performed all the tasks it requested including unplugging and let sit for a week. I can’t believe I did that, but it was in the instructions to reset the unit. I finally called Yamaha service after a month of testing and waiting but I got the cold shoulder and was told by the Yamaha service Rep in CA that I was not covered and refused to authorize warrantee service. I talked to the salesman who sold me the unit and he apologized for the Yamaha “Squirrel" as he called him, and faxed me another receipt and told me to get it fixed. I finally got it to a repair shop and got it back on Sept 8th, and after about a month I finally got it swapped back in but it still did not work right, some features did not work but by this time I did not care about the missing features. I disabled them. But two weeks later "Pop" and it blew again. I checked all my speakers, wiring, and power and found nothing wrong. I swapped my Harmon back in and the Yamaha is back in the shop.

Although I have owned this unit for 7 months I have only used it for about 30 hours. When it works it delivers excellent sound, has lots of sound processing options, has sub par bass but that can be overcome with the adjustments. It has full video up conversion The reviews at the time were wonderful, and the street price had dropped a little, now it has dropped a lot and if you get one that is stable you will do well. However, if you get one like mine you will be firmly disappointed.

Yamaha RX-V2500

Strengths: Unit is easy to setup and provides a lot of inputs. Multiple soundfields allow for a variety of listening options. Pure direct mode and packed with features.

Weakness: Remote is totally confusing. Unit puts out a lot of heat when stacked with other components.

This is a great receiver. I have it hooked to Paradigm Studio speakers and the sound is incredible. Plenty of power at a very reasonable price. There are tons of features (I haven't figured them all out yet). I followed the setup instructions and the system sounded great from the start. The sound fields make it easy to find a listening mode to fit your input programming. The only downside is the remote. It is confusing and difficult to read in the dark. I canned it for a universal remote.

Yamaha RX-V2500 A/V Receiver

Strengths: Lots of inputs. Good setup with optimizer microphone. Surround, enhanced , movie theater or THX programming. Online parameter settings, Parametric equalizer, Pure direct mode, Sound field programs.

Weakness: Powerful but confusing remote control.

This receiver is awesome. It has tons of inputs and allows for optimized automatic or manual setup for best sound results. Also has Yamaha's famous sound stages for variety of acoustical hall settings. Night listening mode allows for lowered volume with better dialog. Lots of features on this receiver, powerful but with clean lines.

Yamaha RX-V2500 A/V Receiver

Strengths: High Power. Plenty of inputs. Lots of features.

Weakness: The only "weakness" is that there are so many features it takes a while to learn. I'm still learning to use new features everyday.

I purchased the RX-V2500 for the increased power. It does not dissappoint as it delivers clear power. I found the installation to be easy with plenty of input selections. I also wired my back patio to take advantage of the zone 2 capability to play two separate inputs in two zones. Reciever is up to the task for delivering excellent powerful sound when in surround mode or just plain old stereo.

Yamaha RX-V2500 A/V Receiver

Strengths: Very very good to Excellent in all areas.

Weakness: None

Had Yamaha receiver and Infinity 4 speaker stereo surround system for over 15 years with excellent sound, so must first admit a little partial. Tried the Yamaha HTR5790 receiver and added a couple more Infinity speakers and subwoofer. Very nice. Then exchanged HTR5790 receiver for the RXV2500 to get 130 watts. Very similar receivers, just needed more watts for a large room. Excellent for both music and movies!

Yamaha RX-V2500

Strengths: ability to have 3 separate zones. 7.1 surround sound. Pleanty of digital hook ups. learner remote.

Weakness: 80+ pagers of instructions and not all of it real easy to understand.

So far (2 weeks)seems like a real complete stereo that provides AV support. I'm using the AB channels and Zone 2 so this saves me $100 from buying a switch box. Zone 2 has variable volume if using the internal amp, that's nice. This was more afforadable than the Dennon AVR 3805 and seemed to provide the same features from the reviews I read.

RX-v2500 Receiver (130 w/channel,7.1 Channels)

Strengths: Easy setup, great sounds

Weakness: Yamaha does not recognize warranty if purchased from unauthorized dealer

If you want the great sounds from a unit that is reasonably priced then this is the unit. You will not be disappointed in the easy set-up. Take a moment and read some of the technical reviews on the WEB and compare to like units.

My dealer is authorized, Yamaha still blew me off. I even had a conference call with them (Dealer support and Salesman) and they even tried to conference in Yamaha, nope no go. I even sent all my repair receipts, original documentation, and full disclosure directly to Yamaha. The Yamaha representative did not seem to care. How arrogant! How utterly un-business like.

It is clear Yamaha has supply channel issues and the customer takes the hit directly. When Yamaha should be resolving its own internal quality issues and its supply chain issues, the choice Yamaha makes is to disown its customers. Why gamble?

Consider other AV receivers not built by Yamaha. Many have had good luck, but those of us who have had problems will agree with the Better Business Bureau that Yamaha service is abysmal. The BBB gives Yamaha an F, look it up I wish I had before I made my purchase. Other receivers are comparable and take very good care of its customers like Harman Kardon and Denon, a bit more upscale than a Yamaha and I can personally vouch for Harman Kardon service.

If you don't a have problem with the Yamaha you have a fine receiver and you should be pleased. If you have a problem go buy another manufactures AV receiver. Don't gamble and buy a Yamaha receiver. My dead RX-V2500 is a testament to my words of caution. Why gamble?

Another great yamaha receiver

Strengths: 130W per channel, 7.1 surround, mic to help set up speaker settings

Weakness: A bit confusing to set up the first time

Plenty of power in this unit which is what most of the upgrade is over the 1500 model. Can get pretty good deals on this model since the 2600 model is on its way out now too. I've had no trouble with it other than having to make a new shelf to hold it as its quite a bit taller than my previous receiver.

-- BEST--THX Receiver for the price... (under $800....

Strengths: Crystal clear sound. Accurate sound controls. Plenty of clean power. Very fast and easy to use GUI. This unit would compare to units over $1000 in today's market.

Weakness: Not much to look at. Remote can be better designed. Would be better to have a bigger screen and text lines. Overall, it just needs to be cosmetically better. Newer model has HDMI and looks way better

I upgraded from a Sony ES555 then to Onkyo SR702 then Yamaha RXV2500.
The Yamaha has the most precise sound out of the 3. Though the Yamaha is rated at 30% more power then the Onkyo 702... I can not honostly agree 100% but I can say I can notice the clarity difference in the Yamaha. The THX and PIIx on the Yamaha is more superior... it just sounds better. The Yamaha cost a little more then the SR702 but is well worth the money unless you focus on fashion... I like the blue lights, bigger screen and text, plus the sleeker design of the Onkyo... but I am glad I switched.
When the RX-V2600 drop in price, I may just switch for looks and HDMI.
Buy it, you won't regret it.

good receiver

Strengths: RX-V2500 has lot of audio options, video up convertion, back-lit remote control, powerful seven channels, and most inportant: It sound fantastic!

Weakness: no hd media interface.

Good receiver, I think you should go for it. It is easy to use even with lot of features. It does sound fanfastic, and look really good in your living/ entertainment room. (I got compliments from friends and relatives all the time, even thought there are lot more expensive audio components that nobody notice for appearance and sound).

Yamaha RX-V2500 Receiver

Strengths: 130 W/Channel power with capability to connect almost any electronic device you own.

This is a fantastic system for the money, although the remote programming can be stressful. Overall I'm pleased with the appearance and performance. Works great with Bose speaker systems.

Yamaha RX-V2500 Receiver Review

2004 marked a year when SpaceShipOne broke the status quo and became the first private company to successfully launch a reusable manned vehicle into space and return it safely home. That kind of innovation and leadership garners a tremendous amount of respect. Yamaha Electronics Corporation seems to understand the importance of product innovation and leadership. With the RX-V2500, it is apparent...
