Phillips 52PFL7422D/37 52

Strengths: Great picture Lots of inputs - 3 hdmi, 2 component, 1 composite, 1 s-video priced similar to the second tier mfrs like visio nice case design built in antenna does a great job picking up hd

Weakness: remote is cheap - not universal or backlit blacks could be blacker takes 5-10 seconds before picture appears when you turn the unit on You can't customize the input names. It only has generic names

For the money, this is a great TV! It has a great automatic setup feature. During setup, the TV shows you a series of split screen images and different audio tracks and you select the one you perfer. HD and XBOX360 images are excellent on this TV. SDTV is okay. The audio lacks bass so be prepared to spend additional money on a receiver and speakers.

Philips 52

Strengths: Amazing picture quality when compared with similar type TV brands! Enough input sources to satisfy most needs. A set-up assistant in the TV is helpful with examples of features, etc. Sleek display!

Weakness: As mentioned previously, the set-up for adjusting color, etc. covers the entire screen until you complete your changes. Must go back in to re-adjust. Cheap feeling remote with few option buttons.

Overall, a fantastic TV for the money and for the category! Since I use a universal remote anyway, the remote it came with was a trivial issue in the long run. This TV has an impressive glass stand that locks into the back of the TV for support, very substantial & sturdy. This will grow with our family for years to come with all the features such as "Child Lock", PIN Code for certain channel access, etc!

Philips 52PFL7422D LCD HDTV 52" Flatscreen

Strengths: AMAZING picture quality, best I have seen. Easy to get set up, has enough input jacks to hook up a good array of audio equipment.

Weakness: Internal speakers suck. Remote is not very ergonomic, has flat edges, doesn't feel good in your hand.

Very pleased with this TV. Picture quality is absolutely the best I have seen bar none. Don't bother with ambilight, Too overpriced, and I don't think you really need it. I was going to go for it, but glad I didn't.

I didn't think the menu screens were all that annoying, Tv is easy to set up it is rather heavy, at 125lbs, and takes 2 people to get it up on the wall. Once mounted on the wall, the jacks are not all that easy to get to, so it is best to make your connections before putting it on the wall.

Internal speakers plain suck. They distort very easily at volume level of about 50%. If you really want good sound you have to hook up some kind of external speakers. TV has 2 analog (line level) outputs you can run to an external amp or even external powered computer speakers (even those sounded better than what came with the tv) Biggest gripe here, is that you can't mute the sound coming out of this jack with the remote. Headphone jack is the same way. What this thing really needs, is an External speaker output that is hooked into the mute feature on the TV. That way you could simply add a regular pair of UNPOWERED speakers, which would be completely controlled through the TV but you would get 100% better sound. I think they kind of missed the boat here. It has a digital audio output also, but I haven't figured out how to hook that up. I tried it on my digital coaxial input on my amp, and got nothing, so that might take a special input on your amplifier. Mine obviously doesn't have the proper input for this.

Everything else about this TV I absolutely LOVE. Do yourself a favor too, if you can go for the 52" over the 47" do it. You will not be sorry you did. This thing is freakin incredible.

Beautiful Television!

Strengths: Aesthetically pleasing piano black finish and matching stand, matte-finish screen to dimish glare, and finally, an awesome Hi-Def experience. Plenty of inputs for the add-on toys.

Weakness: Analog picture is only ok, with very noticeable banding at times. Remote control lacks robustness. Menu navigation is a little quirky.

This is my first LCD HD television, and I have no regrets about this purchase. I was fairly pleased with the analog signal, but when I was finally switched over to HDTV after the first week, I was absolutely stunned. This TV really needs to be used for HD, as the size of screen is unforgiving to the analog picture, and I was amazed at the clarity of images. While there are certainly newer televisions boasting faster refresh rates, for the price and picture quality, I am very pleased.

Phillips 52PFL7422D/37 52 nice TV

Strengths: I was going to buy a Toshiba 52 inch and when I went to costco and compared both of them, though Toshiba had a brighter picture but Philips was showing more true colors.

Weakness: The remote is really CHEAp quality, it doesnt have PIP or POP feature but again I never used that in my other LCD tv so really dont care. I would have liked to see DVI or VGA output.

Over all, I think the TV is great, Costco just dropped the price by a 100$ so now you can get this for 1899$ and if you purchase through American Express you get 3 year warranty now that is very good. The setup is very simple plus it has a USB slot and you can view all the pictures just by plugging in your jumpdrive. I can definately see the difference between Philips and LG which I bought 2 years ago. The picture quality is GREAT and it is heavy 115pound, I was able to mount is easily on the wall, needed some muscle power :)
I would strongly recommend this TV but make sure to buy a universal remote.

Thee Most annoying thing ever is that the display for picture, sound and audio comes up every time you change the channel. It's really irritating!

Philips 52PFL7422D review

Strengths: 52 " full size screen, multiple inputs ,HDMI ver 1.3, USB to play picture shows and also to update to the latest firmware, No clouding or banding issues

Weakness: Missing VGA input, remote control, settings occupy the whole screen (explained below), analog tv picture quality

I got this HDTV model at a great price directly from PHILIPS and it is from a tier-one manufacturer (LG-PHILIPS)
Been happy with it so far. HDTV picture looks stunning,Analog TV is OK

Updating the firmware is a breeze, just download the firmware onto a usb stick, put it in the USB slot on the TV and the tv update itself in a few minutes and you are good to go.

You can either go with the few factory settings to adjust the picture quality or play around until you are satisfied with your custom settings

HD/Blue Ray DVD's look great, I hooked up this TV to my home theater

I was unable to connect my computer to the TV because this TV takes DVI and my computer does not have a DVI. As an interim I had to buy a converter/special cable to hookup the computer to the TV.

The TV remote looks and feels cheap at best. I do not use it at all and programmed my universal remote.
The most annoying feature for me is: When trying to adjust the picture quality (Brigthness, color etc.) the settings display occupies the whole screen, so you do not know what the new setting will look like until you come out of that menu. It's like trying to find something in a dark room when the Power goes out during the night. I do not know what the engineers at Philips were thinking, I placed a call with PHILIPS and was informed that that how it works.

Hi,

I'm Dr. Philips. First, take digital photo of your television. Then, adjust settings. Take another photo, and compare. I'm sorry we didn't make this clear, but that's what we were thinking!

Thank you for your inquiry,

Dr. Tube Philips

Excellent Choice in Large Screen HDTV Category

Strengths: Picture quality for both HDTV and Analog. Price. Overall Quality

Weakness: None that I could find.

I looked long and hard before I bought this TV. I got a GREAT price ($1799 with coupon at Costco, they even DOUBLE the mfg warranty to 2 years). It came down to this TV and the Toshiba 52" Regza. It was a difficult decision, but all members of my family agreed that the Philips had the most lifelike picture. Set up was a breeze and it has performed exactly as I had expected. Check that, it has performed better than expected because after reading review I expected poor performance from analog channels. I hated watching analog on my old 50" rear projection, but they are more than acceptable on the Philips. Many of the complaints I have read are really nitpicking and kind of stupid. Philips made the right choices to keep the price reasonable. If you are buying a 52" TV and planning on using the internal speakers you are a fool. This is a home theater centerpiece and you would be stupid not to use a surround amp. As far as I'm concerned they could have left speakers out completely. Also the remote is acceptable, but I use a Harmony universal remote, so I don't care about that either. Believe me this TV has everything you need like HDMI 1.3, USB port for flash upgrades and multimedia, 1080p, Perfect Pixel HD engine. This is the real deal.

phillips 52pfl7422d/37

Strengths: ok picture quality

Weakness: sound is not great. see the rest of its many many weaknesses in the commments

2 weeeks after i purchased this tv, it started having problems. the whole screen went haywire. the pixels were changing into different colors during this the tv wouldnt turn off or communicate at all until i pulled out its cord and plugged it back in, and it kept doin it more and more frequently. overall this tv was ok until the above story had occured. after this inconvenience,i don't recommend this tv to anyone. if i were you, then i'd put down an extra 300-500 bucks and get a samsung or sony, which is what i ended up doing
