Great battery

Strengths: duration, original equipment

Weakness: price

Nothing beats going with an actual Sony battery. I've tried other brands, but have found them to be inconsistent and unreliable. Although the price is high, you never have to worry about having enough power. Nobody enjoys fretting over battery life and deciding whether or not to use your camcorder's color display in order to extend battery life. Worth the investment just to avoid the anxiety.

NP-970 seems to work fine

Strengths: The NP-970 seems to work fine. It is nice to have the high capacity.

Weakness: It would be nice to have even more capacity.

This is the ideal battery to use with the Sound Devices 7xx portable recorders. With 6600mAh, the NP-970 yields about six hours of audio recording time. I think this one is the highest capacity Sony offers - though some other brands claim to go higher. I'm glad I found a good price out there.

Sony L Series InfoLITHIUM Battery

Strengths: None. eBay has cheaper price for these imitate batteries.

Weakness: It is an imitate Sony battery because when plugged in to a Sony charger, the charger cannot read the information from the battery. Imitate batteries are not dependable. It can run out at any time.

My experience with after-market or imitate batteries is they are so unreliable. After fully charged, it can run out after 5 minutes of use. I used to think at a much cheaper price, I can buy several imitate batteries just in case. I end up carried too many batteries around.

So I rather buy one authentic battery for back up and don't have to carry too many imitate batteries around.

Furthermore, I found the sellers of these imitate batteries don't want you to return the batteries. I tried to contact two different vendors for several times and none returned my call or email.
