L2410NM Black 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor

Strengths: Resolution, Contrast Ratio, Size, Price

Weakness: Weak Stand

One of the best deals I have came across on monitors. Has Full 1080P and then some. Lots of bang for your buck. The stand is fairly weak and feels very wobbly. Feels like it would not last long if you had to move it alot. Great contrast ratio, great resolution, and very well built. Would be nice if it came with a remote and if the buttons were labled better. Overall very nice monitor. I paid $379. One great extra is the ability to use as a TV. Has speakers which is a great addition. HDMI port. Many ways to use this product. I absolutely love it.

Beautiful Widescreen

Strengths: Glossy black elegant frame Non-glossy screen Component (Red, Green, Blue) Video Input HDMI Input VGA (Monitor) Input S-Video Input Composite (Regular Yellow RCA Plug) Input 1920x1200

Weakness: No DVI input Dark scenes in movies and games are REALLY dark

All in all, this is a great monitor and I consider it to be an amazing value.

First of all, to start out, it looks beautiful. This is important, because there's a lot of LCD panels out there that aren't. There's a glossy black frame that makes it look really elegant. No dull gray standard office cubicle color for this one.

Secondly, the enormous number of video inputs make this stand out in the competition. With HDMI in, and a resolution of 1920x1200 (which from my understanding, means you can get true 1080p), you can hook up your HD-DVD player and get top resolution! The picture is gorgeous. Because there's all these video inputs (HDMI, Composite Video, S-Video, Component Video, Monitor), you can plug in 5 devices, and switch whenever necessary. This is great for studio apartments or dorm rooms where saving space is a priority.

In regards to the picture quality, blacks are a little dark. I've heard you can adjust it to make it look better, I'm still working on it. There's programs you can buy, that will help you calibrate it to make it look better. For now though, I've been really happy. You don't really notice it unless you're playing computer games that involve going through dark areas.

Another concern can be the lack of a DVI input. However, there are many adapters you can purchase (for very cheap if you look in the right places on the internet) that will change DVI to HDMI and so you can plug it right in. That's what I'm using and the picture looks great. It's all a digital signal so I don't think the quality deteriorates with a change in plug shape. The bits (the 1's and 0's) still get through, which is what's important.

Finally, it is important to note that if you use HDMI, there's no auto shut-off mode if you leave your desk for a while; there's a blue screen that turns on, but that's it. I haven't found that to be too bothersome; just make it a habit to press the off button on the side when you leave. Some people say the button is too small; again, I don't think it's that big of a deal. You get used to it. The important thing to me has been the great picture quality and enormous size.

If you're looking for a great bargain, plentiful video inputs, a beautiful frame and stand, and a great picture, this computer's for you.

If you need a very clear dark picture (good differentiation between various levels of black) for whatever reason- photography, video editing, video games - you may want to consider another panel.

I don't know how warranty repair is because I haven't had to use it. I've had no dead pixels on mine.

Size Matters

Strengths: 24", minimal bezel & speaker footprint, huge BRIGHT display

Weakness: stand inspires about the same level of confidence as an elephant balancing on a chopstick. Must manually hit power switch to power off w/o blue screen.

with a handy 10' HDMI to DVI cable, i hooked this beast up to my c2d desktop running Win MCE & powered up - BLAM!

This monitor fired up right away and immediately made me cringe with its painful brightness over my previous BenQ 20". i lowered the brightness right off the bat to 50% and will investigate further tweaks later. Suffice it to say i thought the colors were vivid and bright, and could detect no fixed pixels.

Other than that, WoW looks lovely at 1920x1200 on a 7950gt video card! No ghosting that i could see - i debated on whether to get a monitor with a faster response time (2 ms) but it was a TN panel so i opted for this higher quality panel. Boy am i glad!

Monitor itself has a glossy black bezel and a translucent glass trim around the bezel which kinda evokes the Aero look of Windows Vista. A nice pickup!

Excellent monitor fot its price

Strengths: cheap, 1:1 mapping, 1080P via components, MVA panel

Weakness: poor OSD control

Just received today. It can go up to 1080P via components; that means you don't need an additional VGA cable to connect XBOX 360 for full HD display. The OSD is really not easy to use but you only need to use it for the fisrt time, right?

Are you sure this has 1:1 pixel mapping? (Black bars visibile when receiving a 1080p signal, instead of stretching it to 1920x1200)

It was my understanding that this did not have that capability. Please let me know, I'm strongly considering buying this.

This monitor is amazing!

Strengths: The picture quality, brightness, look of the monitor, lots of ports

Weakness: The stand isn't as solid as one would probably like

This monitor is absolutely incredible. The screen is one of the best I have seen. It's nice and bright with no imperfections that I call of. It doesn't have a DVI port but since I am connecting it to a laptop I am using D-sub anyway. Even with the analog connection it looks amazing. The controls are a little weird at first but you get used to them and lets be honest how often to you change settings on your monitor anyway? For some reason this is considered a budget 24" LCD because it can often be had for under $400. Don't let that fool you though as this monitor looks as good as ones costing hundreds more.

Excellent quality screen let down by terrible...

Strengths: Excellent colors and extremely bright. Nice aesthetics. Every kind of input you could want.

Weakness: Not very adjustible due to poor stand. Only supports DVI connections through the HDMI port for computers. HDMI will not go into low power mode. Buzzing sound if you turn the brightness down.

I bought this monitor to use with a HP dv9000 laptop with HDMI output. I thought this would be perfect for my laptop as it has a HDMI input, I was wrong. The L2410NM only supports computer connections that are DVI-HDMI. If you connect a HDMI source it does not recognize the input as a computer and as a result does not adjust itself accordingly. As a result, text is jagged and colors are off, making the monitor completely unsuited to those with a HDMI output only. However, when connected with a DVI source, the picture is excellent, with colors being accurate and text being smooth. The viewing angles were also very good. While I say the screen is very bright, I found it to be too bright, but if you turn the brightness down the monitor makes a buzzing noise which does not go away causing you to leave the monitor at max brightness.
As for the speakers, they are not very good and I suggest you do not count them as an actual feature of the monitor.
The base of this stand is also a let down, you can only tilt the screen, it does not swivel and you cannot raise/lower the screen.
The monitor has more inputs than any other I looked at, HDMI, component, VGA composite, S-Video, so it is good as a multi-use monitor.
If you are looking for a multi-function monitor and you have a DVI output this monitor may work for you. But if you want some adjustability and only have a HDMI output definitely look elsewhere.

*Note: I tried many different cables and setting when using HDMI and nothing worked, when I used the same cables with another monitor, the picture was perfect.

Buzzing, striping, no power saving

Strengths: Good colors, many connectors.

Weakness: Buzzing noise; no power saving in DVI mode; horizontal stripes; inconvenient controls; hot.

This model has an MVA panel, so it has better colors than the more common TN type panel. However, Westinghouse showed very poor design and quality control with this model. It has many problems:

This model has a very frequent problem of an annoying buzzing noise in anything but full brightness (and full brightness is too high for most rooms).

When connected to DVI (via the HDMI connector), there is no power saving. The screen turns blue instead of shutting down. The unit also runs very hot. Taken together, it eats a lot of power.

The upper right corner of the screen has some faint but noticeable horizontal stripes effect.

The control buttons and menu system are horrible.

Great bang for your buck with a few annoying quirks

Strengths: Bright, great colors, many inputs, MVA panel, HDCP, cheap price

Weakness: Buzzing noise, awkward contols, blue screen instead of low power mode on HDMI connection, weak stand, blacks a bit muddy

Out of the box this monitor is blindingly bright. Once you turn the brightness down to a reasonable level, you'll find a monitor that's very crisp at higher resolutions, with beautiful colors. Mine doesn't have any screendoor issue or dead pixels like some others have reported. I haven't noticed any ghosting either, but I'm not an FPS junkie. The blacks are a somewhat muddy, but bumping the gamma up a little bit mostly compensates for that.

HDMI input, especially at the native resolution, looks perfect on this monitor. VGA input looks just as good. 720p and higher via component look great as well. 480i and 480p via component look OK... usable, but not exceptional. I didn't expect high end scaling circuitry for this price, though. I haven't used the S-Video or the composite connections yet or the built-in speakers, so I can't comment on the quality of those.

Power consumption isn't too bad. With brightness set at 36, mine uses about 55 watts.

The stand that comes with the monitor is pretty flimsy. Bumping your desk will cause the monitor to wobble quite a bit. When I adjust the tilt the screen always seems to end up higher on one side than the other, requiring further fiddling. At some point I plan on replacing the stand with a better one, so this isn't a big deal to me.

The controls are on the right side of the monitor and are very awkward to use. Once you have their order memorized, changing a setting consists of counting from the top or bottom button with your fingers until you find the right one, then doing the same for the next button you have to push, etc. It's very annoying at first when you are spending a lot of time adjusting settings.

When connected via the HDMI connection, the monitor will go to a blue screen instead of low power mode when your computer tells it to power down. This means that you'll have to remember to turn it off manually whenever you step away from your computer for a while. It goes to low power mode correctly when connected via VGA.

By far the most annoying quirk of this monitor for me is that when you lower the brightness below 98, it makes a continuous buzzing noise. If your PC is fairly quiet and you sit within five feet or so of the screen you will definitely hear this. If your PC is loud, you always have music or something playing, or you sit further away from the screen then it shouldn't be a problem for you.

Overall, the low price and beautiful picture of this monitor make it worth living with the quirks for me. If you are able to pick one up for $400 or less I would definitely recommend it. If your budget is higher than that then I'd lean more towards a Samsung 245T, Benq FP241W or other higher end monitor.

Westinghouse L2410NM 24" Monitor

Strengths: Bright, no dead pixels, high 1920x1200 resolution, high contrast ratio, many connection types

Weakness: Runs hot, no DVI, non-adjustable stand

One of the few monitors that is 1080p (and more!) that also has HDMI at such a low price. The HDMI allows it to double as a TV and also for Xbox360/PS3 use. The plastic stand is a bit flimsy, but shouldn't be a problem if it isn't moved around often. There is a slight buzzing sound emitting from the monitor (due to lowering the brightness) but is very minimal. Great price/performance ratio.

Westinghouse L2410NM

Strengths: Aesthetically pleasing, multiple inputs, P-MVA panel, wall-mount option, HDCP compliant, 1:1 pixel mapping

Weakness: OSD controls hard to navigate, no side-to-side swivel movement, no height adjustment

In the ~$350 price range (when on sale), you can't do any better than this Westinghouse. It uses a higher quality P-MVA panel which has better 8-bit color reproduction. And when viewing the screen off-center, there's no annoying color shifting like with the cheaper TN panels.

Nice thin glossy bezel, very professional looking. This model can double up as an HDTV thanks to its multiple inputs: HDMI/DVI, components, composite and S-video. Have tested this with my PS3 and my cable box. 1080p movies look very good, and can watch all TV resolutions (480i, 720p, 1080i) in their correct aspect ratios. The option to stretch or zoom is also available via the OSD menu.

The OSD buttons are poorly placed on the right side and are not labeled for easy use. It takes a bit of fidgeting around which can become frustrating. There is only tilt-up adjustment with the stand. No tilt-down, swivel, or height adjustments. For the bargain price you pay, they had to cut corners somewhere. IMO, I'd rather give up some mechanical adjustments rather than skimp on the actual quality of the screen/panel. An excellent monitor for the price!

Quality monitor!

Strengths: nice color, good resolution, good quality

Weakness: weak black, headphone jack input does not stick out, so using other cables besides the one supplied will not fit, only had 2 feet when there are 3 feet holes present, side buttons are hard to work w/

1080p, this monitor is superb for the price. The LED light shown on the logo reminds me of sony's XBR line of tv's. I recommend this monitor for anyone on budget. Only thing I wished it had was better placement of buttons and perhaps label the buttons in the front.
