Slick and Simple

Strengths: The ease of operation and versatility

Weakness: no usb port.

If you'ver ever been frustrated by the complexity involved burning DVDs through the computer, this product is your new best friend. Wonderfully easy to use with an intuitive and elegant design. We transferred all our old Mini Digital Videos over to DVDs using this device. It is TRULY user-friendly technology. Thank you Sony!

Excellent! Does what it says on the box

Strengths: Simplicity, multiple format of DVD disk output, multiple input device connections

Weakness: Portability (size)

I purchased this a few weeks ago to convert a small collection of miniDV tapes to DVD. I was able to connect my Sony video camera using a DV cable but the unit supports many other connection options including USB. Using a DV connection I was able to use the 'one button touch' recording approach.

The DVDirect unit recognizes a new blank disk has been placed in the drive, moves on to formatting it and then controls the video camera to copy the content onto the DVD.

The only complaint -- a very minor one -- is that the unit is a little bit bulky and so cannot be taken on trips to convert tapes over to DVD while on the road. Styling wise it could be slimmed down a little.

But overall, it is well worth the money and very easy to use.

Worthy Recorder

Strengths: Ease of use, straightforward copying

Weakness: Could be more portable, white color

This recorder competes with others by JVC, Canon etc. It does direct recording well, simplifying the whole process without a pc. It has a lot of functionality, making it even more useful. Photos and video copy easily and well without much fuss.

It's only drawbacks are cosmetic: somewhat large to move around with cameras if you need to and I personally don't like use of white on equipment.

Sony Multi-Function DVD Recorder

Strengths: Easy to use

Weakness: another piece of equipment

This is a great product. Very inexpensive considering you are able to transfer all types of video and pictures. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who is looking to transfer video or pictures.

Watch what you need

Strengths: Great price for accessibility with its multiple built-in-slots.

Weakness: I only use it with my memory card. Will never use VCR or DVR; a waste of function to me. Not so worthy unless you require the multiple built-in-slots and accessibility.

if you need all the functions, get it. It's worth the money

if you need only some of it, get a simpler and cheaper recorder. Dont let the sophistication goes to waste.
