Logitech Z-2300 Multimedia Speaker System

Strengths: User friendly. Easy set-up and controls. Very versatile. It has very little distortion at the upper volume and terrific presence at the lower volume. Excellent price for such a fine product.

Weakness: None.

This product is excellent for expanding the use of a computer, tv, vcr, dvd or game player. The performance, simplicity and value of this high end system comes at a bargain basement price.

Adding Volume Logic made me happy

Strengths: Good power. Sound great after using Volume Logic

Weakness: Without EQ mids are "soft". lacking in 200-400 khz range

I'd read all the reviews about weak midrange, hoped for the best anyway but, the "wimpy-mid" reviews are correct. These speakers lack mid punch. I tried many iTunes EQ settings but couldn't pull out the proper frequnecies needed for a good snare drum crack or vocal attack. Cranking it loud helped but softer volumes had the "boom-hiss" sound that I loathe about most sub-sat designs. The mids almost sound like they're somehow compressed. I was dissapointed and thought it would be one of those "well, wadya expect for $99" kinda deals.

But then ... I downloaded Volume Logic for iTunes and WOW! It brought back all the frequncies in familiar music tracks (most noteably the the amazing woody snare crack in Rush's Moving Pictures album) and created a nice sound stage in acoustic music like Allison Krausse as well as classical music. Even though it's not a graphic EQ and not all that "adjustable", it surpasses iTunes EQ hands down. I'm guessing Volume Logic uses better frequency logarythms than iTunes.

Of course Volume Logic doesn't help DVD playback but, after 30 min of LOTR just now, they're not bad at all ... great thump and clarity. The bass volume control is really handy. They seem to sound better for movies than music (music played without V.L.) I upgraded from a $50 Altec 2.1 set that I've had for years (and really liked but they didn't offer enough power or low end for DVD playback). The Logitech's really add nice soundstage and detail not found in most 2.1 computer speakers. After $99 for the speakers plus adding Volume Logic, I'm very happy and excited about the Z-2300's.

Logitech Z-2300 Multimedia Speaker System

Strengths: Ultra clear, frequency response is amazing! Work-Horse too! Low distortion at very high volumes. Highly... Highly recommend!

Weakness: Some hummm when turned up and nothing playing. (May be my connectors)

I thought they were distorting until I realized that it was the pictures on the wall were vibrating! What else can I say?
Very pleased!

Hey all, I don't know why you people follow everyone else and buy Logitech speakers. The best comparison to the Z-2300 are the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1. The Klipsch is roughly $30 more though, so maybe that swayed your decision. It's a fact, not my opinion, that Klipsch speakers produce better sound.

Consumer reviews are just about the most worthless reviews to read. Most of them base their review off the single product they bought for whatever reason. Generally speakers all sound great when there is nothing to compare them too. Most of the consumer reviews are not comparisons, just more like "Wow, these speakers are so loud and the bass is awesome." To me that spells "newbie." Loudness of a high quality speaker system is a given, they are all loud, but the real question is the quality of the product and the quality of the sound.

The Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 is the best choice, if you value sound quality over flash and mediocore sound coloration.

Don't be ignorant and buy what everyone else does. "How were we supposed to know?", you ask. Well, it's hard; read proffesional reviews (not Maximum PC), take consumer reviews with a grain of salt.

Your totally wrong the Promedia's are much worse then the logitech.
I personly compared both at the store and the logitech's sound was much clearer, thats why i bought these awesome speakers

I also disagree with the first comment - and I DID OWN first the Promedia 2.1. They sound just as good, I would say, but went bad after only a year. For forty bucks to have them repaired, I bought the Z-2300 instead. So I owned both for at least a year and used them extensively and played numerous games and types of music on them. Therefore I can confidently say that, for the money, the Logitech Z-2300 are a better VALUE, even if the Promedia's system sound a shade better. My experience with their customer service has been more positive too (I own other Logitech products.)

Logitech Z-2300 Multimedia Speaker System

Strengths: crisp clear sound, very loud

Weakness: none

I am well pleased with this 2.1 speaker set. They are much better than my last set of speakers. The subwoofer is bigger than I was expecting but no big deal since I have the room for it. Sound is very loud and crisp, no hissing is noticable with the volume cut way down. Very nice and sleek looking speakers.

great quality for the price

Strengths: awesome bass response, controls separate from speakers, sheer power!!

Weakness: satellite drivers could be bigger for better midrange response, blue led is too bright.

i got mine from JustDeals for about $62 after shipping (they always have some of the best deals around for refurbs (r0x0rs!)).
FOR THE PRICE, no better system exists. as an example of the power of this set, listen: for steady listening, i never turn the volume knob higher than 25%. turn it up to 50%, and you can hear it through walls loud and clear. wow.

the sub is more than ample for home use, at 120W. even though it is only 8", it kicks like a 10" or maybe even a 12".

the satellites can put out an impressive amount of sound, too, at 40W per channel. the only room for improvement is to increase the size of the woofers: there is a significant gap between the satellites & the sub as far as frequency response. sub has pounding lows, satellites have crystal-clear highs, but the mid-range isn't there in full force. sound is still great though. this is the one area where the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 set is better. but i must say, this set looks 20 times better than the Klipsch (and is rated for 40 more watts).

You'll never go wrong with a great Logitech product, such as this (or my G5 laser mouse).

to those of you who complain about humming, you probably have CRT monitors, right? cuz they will do that to speakers that are not magnetically shielded ... and i guess these aren't. but if you have a flat panel LCD like i do, you'd say "humming? huh? what humming?"

Logitech Z-2300 Multimedia Speaker System

Strengths: Powerful subwoofer, 200w output

Weakness: Weak satellites in comparison to the z-2200

I currently own a set of Z-2200s and have written a review on them, and I must say I couldn't be happier with any 2.1 config. I bought the 2300 for my bro, ut right out of the box I wasnt very impressed. Of course logitech has gone to some lengths in terms or aesthetics, but the biggest flaw in design is the reduction in the satellite driver. This actually leaves much to be desired as I felt the satellites just couldnt keep up with the bass at higher volumes. I dont understand why Logitech chose to reduce the size of the driver in a newer model, but I personally consider it to be a bad move. I would still recommend the 2200s over the 2300s.

Great performance and value.

Strengths: awesome bass, good looking system, great sound quality and value

Weakness: hardwired speakers and stereo input cables

After reading some of the negative reviews on this site, I wasnt sure I wanted to purchase these speakers. But the number of positive reviews greatly exceeded that of the negative so I went ahead and ordered them online. After recieving these and testing various types of music on them I can say I am greatly satisfied. I was really surprised at how loud these speakers actually get, I really couldnt turn them up more than 3/4th of the way without rattling stuff off my shelves. Some reviewers mention a lack of midtone definition but I cannot notice any lack of performance in sound quaility. I was actually pretty inpressed with the sound they produce considering they only cost me $85. The bass is just amazing, loud, and clear. The sattelites, although small and sleek, produce very big sound as well and are not overpowered by the massive subwoofer. The overall look of the system is very clean modern, and elegant. For the space they take up these speakers can easily fill a great multiple of that with clear, clean, distortion free, excellent sound. I would say for under $100 there are no better speakers you can buy. Almost every aspect of this set surpassed my expectations. If you are concerned about reviews questioning its sound quality, either spend a whole lot more for slighlty better sounding music, or buy these which may I remind you are THX certified for under $100. By far the best in its price range and over, and then some.

Logitech Z-2300 Multimedia Speaker System

Strengths: The sound you get for this price is phenomenal. The speakers are loud, clear, and much better than expected.

Weakness: Logitech includes an adapter to plug in a standard audio device instead of the sound card - but it would be MUCH better if there were an input on the volume control for an iPod or something similar.

I love these speakers and I'm really, really happy with my purchase. I don't think you can do any better for around $100. My old computer speakers went straight to the trash once these arrived. Get them while you can - they were surprisingly hard to get ahold of for me.
Make sure you email whatever seller you buy from to see how soon they can ship. I had to cancel 2 orders because they were backordered and finally ended up waiting almost 3 weeks for mine.

Unpleasant to listen to

Strengths: Not terribly expensive, Best Buy gave me the Promedias at the price of Logitechs

Weakness: Bloated bass, Aggitated highs, relatively non-existent mid range, poor dispersion

Once upon a time I wrote a publication and I had to deal with PC speakers. Logitech was always one of the more accessible companies for PR but I never cared for their speakers. Anytime they came across my desk I'd never was terribly impressed.
.
Today I no longer review PC speakers for $$$ so I've lost touch with the PC audio market. When I checked out, the Klipsch Promedias were still the king of the hill. Let's face it, PC speakers are cheap. They're cheaply made, and will never challange a good ol' traditional set of speakers with a quality receiver/amplification. Now my home G5 uses floor standing JBLs but for the office I needed something compact and cheap.
.
I've always respected CNET as a review site, they're generally every bit as hard nosed as I demand in a reviewer so when they tossed 9.0, I was rather impressed.
.
I headed over to Best Buy and had them price match circuit city, to save $30. I took them home, tested out, what I heard wasn't the product I read about.
.
The Logitech speakers by the picture looked like a classic 3-way design (tweeter, mid, sub) but instead used dipolar or Phase plug whatever, single nippilized drivers in place of tweeters. Trying to recreate a full 20Hz-20KHz range on two speakers is next to impossible. Somewhere it'll suffer. Generally quality center channels sport two-way designs and feature multiple mid sized drivers to make up for bass reproduction as two 5 1/2 drivers have roughly the surface area of a single 8 inch. However, when a single driver is forced to recreate roughly 6-7 octaves, somewhere it'll suffer. (See Bose for classic example of poor speaker design). 2-way isn't without one single strength. It eliminates the need of an extra crossover which adds to the cost and means more engineering. To properly blend a speaker over its multiple drivers so its not missing frequency ranges is an art.
.
Now a lot of people get excited by the THX logo, a "quality insurance" tag that a speaker maker must submit their product to (at the cost of the maker) to see if it meets the expectations of Lucas LTD. If it does, it gets a happy THX logo to press on the box. There's a bit of payola that goes on, because of the cost means some companies will never bother with the THX review process. However generally it has been an indicator that the product at least went through some form of engineering and testing. Its better than nothing.
.
The logitechs are without soul. They pack in a ridculously over bassed sub. It isn't for music lovers at all, strictly loud booming undefined bass, great for booms and bangs, but not all the complimentary to listening to a great bassline. It'll chew up your hip hop and it'll mangle your rock. Its not a bad sub, but its application seems rather one sided. The sub itself really isn't all that bad but for speakers for listening to music in the office? Nope.
.
The real weak point are the satillites, no matter the positioning they sounded off. The bizarre part is they sounded fine a room over, but in the same room they were nasally and much too narrow field. Vocals sounded lacked lower mid range making for unflattering voices. The highs seemed overly expressed. All in all it made for weak presentation.
.
Going back to the reviewer days, the best speakers arguably I touched were the EV SonicXSes, no longer made. Big. Ugly. Agressive horn tweeters but never the less one of the most complete speaker packages made. They were the only thing that challanged the Klipsch Promedias.
.
Fast forward 5 years later to today. The Promedias are again without challange as Telex bounced out of the PC market much too fast missing the PC explosion that'd follow.
.
I returned the Logitechs for the Klipsch Promedias, the same speakers I touched 5 years ago. Without question the Promedias put the Z2300s to shame with much more balanced sound, silly horn tweeters, midrange drivers and sub and all.
.
Do yourself a favor, get the Promedias or try your luck for the EV SonicXSes or even more oldschool, the ACS-48s (They're still better than anything Altec Lansing has made in the past 9 years). This things are junk.

Logitech Z-2300 Multimedia Speaker System

Strengths: Sound fidelity. Cost. Size. Appearance

Weakness: Hum/hissing sound when power is on but nothing is playing.

Overall, the sound is pretty good from these speakers. For computer speakers, their fidelity is pretty good. However, I am disappointed by a hum/hissing sound that comes out of the speakers even no input is being sent. This is significant enough that I gave these speakers to my wife for her computer (which is noisier) and kept my Monsoon Planar Media PM-14's for my computer.

Logitech Z-2300 Multimedia Speaker System

Strengths: solid design, good looks

Weakness: bass distortion at high levels

This is an overall good product for the price. Definitely better than products available for 50% more. The design is pleasing to look at.

The only problem I have with this is the bass distortion at high volumes, but you can't expect Cadence sounds from a Logitech, especially at such a great price. The gain control for the sub is just sweet. My old desktop speakers are now in the big recycling dump in the sky.

Best 2.1 Computer Speakers

Strengths: Excellent, thundering bass, crystal clear sound at all levels of volume, very loud, lots of power

Weakness: None

This is the best set of 2.1 computer speakers that are on the market today. They have great sound to go with the amazing subwoofer and even sound good coming out of my TV and game systems. If you are thinking about buying the Harmon Kardon SoundSticks II, please save your money and buy these. These are much more powerful and sound just as good, if not better. If you like listening to music, no matter what kind, buy the Logitech Z-2300 set.

The Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 is actally better than these, so they're not the best 2.1 system on the market, but maybe they are for the price range.

Logitech Z-2300 Multimedia Speaker System

Strengths: very clear even at maximum volume, lifelike, low distortion ,bassy

Weakness: Too heave, especially the subwoofer. They are not easy to carry out.

I bought the speaker 5 days ago. The 120(W)subwoofer is really amazing. It provides solid lows and great dispersion.
They sounds vividly when I play my DVD movies on the computer. They are suitable for listening in a large room
I highly recommend it.

Logitech Z-2300 Multimedia Speaker System

Strengths: Great bass - bass sounds nice and surround. It's not like other systems where bass is loud and annoying. The sound very nice and clear.

Weakness: NONE

If you are buying a 2.1 system, don't hesitate and get this. This is the best 2.1 speaker existed. You will probably need a good sound card like audigy for this to get really good sound. You can even check CNET - this speaker system receives 9/10 rating.

BEST 2.1 SPEAKERS SET IN THE MARKET. PERIOD

Strengths: loud, powerful sub, clear music at both high and lows.

Weakness: the wires are a bit shorter than I expected, but it's not a big deal to me.

this is the best 2.1 speakers I've own. I thought about buying the klipsch 2.1 which is similar to this one, but after comparing logitech z 2300 with klipsch 2.1 which my friend owns, I think this is better than klipsch.

You think wrong. Jealously and denial over your friends Klipsch 2.1 is your problem. What source are your Z-2300 connected too, how about your friend's Klipsch? The souund is only as good as the source it's coming from.

Killer Bass

Strengths: Sub

Weakness: Satillites not as good as Z-2200

I have the Z-2200 model for over a year now and I love them. I would recomend buying the z-2200's if you can find them. The 2300's just fall short in my opinion but if you can't play your music/games loud because you live in a dorm or apartment then I'd say go ahead and buy them. I live in a house so no one complains but my wife when I crank it up.

Logitech Z-2300 Multimedia Speaker System

Strengths: very powerful, good deal

Weakness: bass may be too heavy for some people's tastes. Subwoofer is very heavy.

Review by a College Student:

Great deal for the wattage you get. Great for parties and disturbing the people who live under you or next to you. The sound is very clear, even at high levels. Good high tones.

I found the subwoofer to be surprisingly heavy...I almost hurt my back carrying it from the mailroom.

If you're under the opinion that more bass isn't always better (like me), the almost overwhelming power of the bass can be easily corrected by equalizers...so the power of the subwoofer isn't really a negative thing.

The Best 2.1 Speakers

Strengths: -Great sounds (high's and low's) -Remote has power on/off switch, separate master/subwoofer volume dials, built-in headphone jack -compact yet powerful satellites -Composite audio adapter -THX cert.

Weakness: -Not surround sound -Subwoofer's rear metal grate gets pretty hot - just keep it out-of-the-way

Simply put, these are the best 2.1 channel computer speakers you can get. Seriously. Still regarded as the best-reviewed set out there by critics and consumers. The price hasn't dropped over the years, but they're relatively affordable and totally worth it.

If you don't need surround sound, these pack a humongous punch in a relatively small package!

Logitech even supplies a composite audio adapter, so you can use them with game consoles, DVD players, etc.

Get these speakers period.

Strengths: For this price "THEY ROCK"

Weakness: Somewhat short wires.

These speakers are made for computers, they are not meant to be a full range sound system. The price is great and if you want your computer to sound much better than average grab them. For computer speakers these babies rock.

Great for the price

Strengths: Excellent sound. The bass is strong and treble is clear.

Weakness: If space is an issue the large sub might be a concern.

I purchased a sound card at the same time I bought these speakers. I was so pleased with the sound of just the speakers that I returned the card. These speakers are a great buy. Don't get me wrong I would purchased the Bose Champion 3 series but they are too expensive. If you are the type of person that listens to music and can mentally separate every sound, tone, instrument, etc. then you might want something a little more highend. If price is an issue but you still demand decent quality these are a great choice.

Not worth your money

Strengths: Strong bass, easy to set up

Weakness: No midtone range - not good if you listen to music.

Well, where to start.

The bass of this set is pretty strong, even when compared to Logitech's z5500 sub. Unfortunately, that is probably the only thing that is good about it. The satellite speakers are built so that any sound coming out of them is like that of sounds from a tin can. It literally hurts my ears to listen to any music from this speaker set. Reading many good reviews about this product and assuming that the price backed up the quality of this set, I blindly purchased this set only to find there is absolutely no midtone, and that the sound cannot be adjusted to be any better (through different equalizer settings, etc).

Bottom line: there are much better speakers out there for the price that these are selling for. If you like your music (and you don't even have to be remotely near to being an audiophile), stay clear of this set.

They Pound

Strengths: Amazing sound!! 2.1 with serious bottom end, and they sound extremely clear

Weakness: none...hardwired (rca type connectors) satellites if you call that a weakness

I have the Z5300 and those things are sweet, but this, for use in my office at my desk, flat blow anything out of the water I have heard. Could maybe incorporate tonal controls, but that is a suggestion. They hold up well at high volumes, and they can be pushed! I am buying a 2nd set to install into my garage instead of using a bulky receiver and home speakers! A must for the money!

Logitech Z-2300

Strengths: Sounds like a complete surround system. Sub is so powerful I hardly ever have it passed half power and for the entire system I never turn it passed quarter power. No problem filling any sized room.

Weakness: Could have made the remote wireless, but i could care less.

I had been looking at a set of bose speakers, but found so many negative reviews. After seeing one review that said they purchased the Z-2300 system after Klipsch system quit working and were extremely happy I decided to research logitech. Most of the cheaper systems only run at 30 or 40 watts, and was surprised that the Z-2300 had 200 watts and 400 at peak!!! I've only turned it up to 3/4 power once and the quality was still so clear while the bass was thumping. impressive is all i have to say. definitely gonna bring it out for parties.

Alright

Strengths: Crisp Trebel Range, Minimal Distortion at higher volumes

Weakness: Subwoofer not as clear as one would like, a little garbely.

This is a pretty good speaker system, though for the price range it falls into the Klipsch Promedia 2.1's are a much better system. The trebel is better, and the subwoofer is more natural sounding. Overall though a pretty good speaker set.

Z-2300

Strengths: Very Very loud. Base is very accurate when running games with EAX Advanced HD running

Weakness: absolutely nothing

Playing Battlefield 2 has just been reinvented for me with this system. It is fantastic to feel every gunshot in the center of your chest and hearing the blunt crispness of the shot leaving the chamber. I bought and installed an Audigy 4 to complement these and the result is simply awesome. If your into gaming these are the speakers for you! Mp3's are also loud, clear, and crisp.

Awesome price. quality

Strengths: The bass of this beast is WOW ive never heard anything louder. The sattelites also produce amazing sound.

Weakness: IMO the speakers look very ugly, but that doesnt matter that much, and the subwoofer is huge it does not fit under my desk i had to make extra room for it.

they are very loud, i havent bumped it all the way becase im scared the neighbors might die. Thats why i give this 4/5.
P.S. my parents are also very pissed about this purchase :)

Strengths: LOUD, and Clear and did I mention LOUD

Weakness: The only downfall ist that your neighbors won't speak to you again, but hey maybe that could be counted as a strength!

These are seriously amazing speakers. Just got them to play itunes on my Mac G5 and all I can say is WOW. Very clear sound. I played around with the itunes equalizer and its perfect! No humming here. AMAZING value for money. I was originally looking at the $249 Bose, but couldn't find anywhere that listed the watts which was a worry and although these aren't quite as slick in design as the Bose they are definitely not an eyesore and still compact enough for a small desk. The sound really is amazing.

Absolutely Great

Strengths: The bass is amazingly powerful but easy to adjust if it overpowers the satellites. Very, very, very loud system.

Weakness: Bass is almost overpowering.

When I unpacked these and hooked them up, I immediately said "Wow, these are unbelievable." They were a huge stepup from the bargain basement Harmon Kardons I had been using. The volume and bass along with the power are extremely easy to adjust with the controller. This is a great product, and it is most certainly worth its retail price.

great

Strengths: Great sound,clear,bass is amazing

Weakness: none that i can think of besides for slight distortion at high volumes but thats expected

These speakers were working great but my remote control that came with it broke or something and when i use it it like distorts everything but when i try a different remote control everything is fine. So im wondering if anyone here knows where I can get another remote control for these speakers seperately.

Other than that these speakers are great

Amazing Sound

Strengths: The Highs and the Lows, Price, Design

Weakness: Lacking in the mid range

The way these speakers look is just amazing. I gotta give it to Logitech for designing a great looking speaker system. Once you start listening to music, you can clearly hear all the high pitch from the speakers and the lows from the big sub. This sub can really hit, but it doesn't feel as tight as some of the other systems out there. As for the mid range, the speakers are lacking a little there. You can hear them but when compared to the lows and highs, it is not as good. In general for the price of this 2.1 speaker system, it is great set of speakers for the $100 range.
