Sharp 20Strengths: Great picture, supports new digital signal off the air (no cable needed) Weakness: Poor sound quality, no bass, no adjustment I received this TV as a gift and looked forward to my first LCD TV. Since I do not have cable, I was pleased to see that I could receive digital broadcasts off the air without any special changes. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Sharp LC-20SH7U
Strengths: Traditional 4:3 screen packaged in a very lightweight LCD package. Component inputs, digital coax sound output.
Weakness: Weak volume speakers, for small room use only. EDTV quality, 480p maximum resolution. Low 500:1 contrast ratio.
Traditional 4:3 aspect screens are naturally being phased out. With big heavy CRT units disappearing, it's even harder to find a 4:3 screen in a modern LCD package that's thin, lightweight and of decent quality.
This Sharp model is nothing special but it's great to have if you only need a basic TV somewhere and you don't need HDTV widescreen formats. Works out for me since the guest bedroom only has a single coax connection. Decided against a low-cost widescreen unit because there would always be the black sidebars when watching standard TV channels, unless you stretch it out which changes the aspect. Might as well get a traditional 4:3 unit where you utilize the entire screen area and not change the aspect ratios.
A component input lets you connect a progressive-scan DVD player or other sources. An S-video, RCA composite and RF coax connection round out the available inputs. All in all, a good TV to have when all you need is the very basic setup in a small area. However, wait for sale prices.
