THE BEST 37" LCD TV SET THAT YOU CAN BUY!!!!!

Strengths: large screen size(37"), 3 HDMI Inputs, 1 DVI Input, side Input for video game system makes hooking it up very easily, TV speakers are located on the bottom not on the sides, awesome picture quality

Weakness: picture quality not as good up close on Standard Definition but good from about 6 feet away, only 1 S-Video Input, so far those are the only minuses for me but I still LOVE this LCD TV set

This is my very 1st LCD TV set that I was purchasing, I was searching the web for opinions, reviews on LCD's cause I had no idea about LCD's at all, I found the AVS Forums which had great suggestions, information, reviews on LCD sets, there was a thread on the Sharp's 32 and 37 inch LCD set model 32GP1U and 37GP1U, I liked the large size of the 37" which more than fits my needs for my bedroom, I replaced an old 27" CRT TV set, so the picture is much clearer and cleaner on the LCD set, there are many LCD sets out there now but the differences for me is that the 37GP1U has a game Input on the side which makes connecting the video game system much more easier than connecting it onto the back of the LCD, another factor is that the LCD has 3 HDMI Inputs, the screen size is very large because the speakers are located on the bottom which makes the actual LCD screen larger than if the speakers were located on the sides, another factor is that there is a DVI Input for connection to a computer, the picture quality is SUPERB, I HIGHLY RECCOMMEND THIS LCD TV SET, IT'S WELL WORTH THE MONEY SPENT!!!

High-end, mid-sized LCD display with a large array...

Strengths: good picture quality; full 1080p resolution; excellent selection of HD-compatible inputs; subwoofer output

Weakness: pricey; missing some optional features; remote could be better

The Sharp Aquos LC-37GP1U is a fairly high-end mid-sized LCD. Its most stand-out features are a full 1920 by 1080 pixel resolution and the large number of inputs it provides to take advantage of the 1080p capability. The inputs include 2 component, 3 HDMI, and 1 DVI, all of which can accept 1080p input. If you plan to have lots of high definition sources hooked up, or just want to have room for future expansion, it will be hard to beat the variety and number of inputs this display offers.

This model also includes features geared towards video games. It has what Sharp calls "Vyper Drive," which is supposed to reduce delay associated with the processing of input signals. I've not noticed any lag at all on this set; no problem with the kick meters in Madden. The other game-oriented feature is a subwoofer output. This allows you to connect a powered subwoofer for extra bass without needing a receiver. It's a great feature for smaller rooms, and works well.

The display provides a very good picture: colors are vivid and overall contrast and brightness are good. High definition content looks great, DVDs look very good, and even analog cable channels look acceptable. I do have some minor nit-picks, however. There is some slight red-push -- about 10-15% as measured by the Avia color decoder check pattern -- but it is not bad at all, and I felt no need to reduce the color saturation to compensate. Viewing a completely black screen in a darkened room produces a dark gray rather than dark black. However, this is common issue with almost all LCDs, and the blacks actually look great with an object on the screen or in a room with some light. I also noticed some horizontal color bleeding of reds on the S-video input.

There are only a few small downsides with this display. First, it is somewhat expensive when compared to other displays of the same size. Second, it doesn't have some optional features that you'd expect to find on a high-end display like this. There is no picture-in-picture, no program guide, and no separate coaxial inputs for cable TV and antenna. There isn't even a built-in clock. The set does have a freeze picture function, as well as programmable favorite channel buttons, which can save typing for the longer HD channel numbers. Third, the remote is overly large, with some of the buttons inexplicably hidden away under a flip-up cover. The channel and volume buttons can also be problematic if you don't hit them the right way.

I've been using this set for DVDs, cable TV (digital and analog) and video games, and I'm very satisfied with it. I wouldn't hesitate buying it again.

Beautiful TV with a wealth of inputs.

Strengths: 1080p, slick piano black frame, lots of inputs (3 hdmi, 2 component, DVI), HDTV/games look great.

Weakness: SDTV is not the best, bad viewing angles, remote is not the prettiest thing

I love this television and I highly recommend the 37" version over the 32" of the GP1U series by Sharp. There might be lower contrast ratio, but it is hard to tell the difference. You can almost plug everything into this TV including your PC if you have a DVI cable or a VGA to DVI cable. XBOX360 and PS3 games run beautifully and very easy to use. The remote is pretty ugly though and I wish I had more control over the picture settings even though I did not have to tamper with them much. According to reviewers, people mentioned unnatural color balance with more red than usual. I did not see that on my LCD. Probably the worst thing about the TV is the viewing angles. When viewing standard definition programming, you will notice a change in colors when viewing the screen from the angle. Other than that, I LOVE the TV.

Great Television

Strengths: Multi HDMI inputs, beautiful picture, Easy setup

Weakness: none found so far.

Reviewed many LCD tvs before I purchased this one. The quality of the picture on this television is amazing, particularly through HDMI, obviously. Its great television if you are a gamer as well with the the side hookups and easy flip over to get to your game. I recommend this television to anyone looking for a great product at a decent price.
