D-Link DFL-210: an amazing little box

Strengths: Performance, configuration flexibility, security and features

Weakness: Expensive, high configuration learning curve

I definitely recommend this VPN router firewall to any one serious about internet security. The DFL-210 services like DHCP server, firewall filters, internet in-out policies and rules can be configured down to the smallest details making it very flexible. I tied the web content stripping of ActiveX, Java applets, client side script like VBScript JavaScript and it really works with lots of flexibility for allowing/denying users or URLs. At maximum security with a couple of policies; the performance of the router was excellent. I did not notice any slow down surfing the net until I did a bandwidth test (from 6500 kb/s to 5500 kb/s). The VPN performance was almost to the advertised speed. The very minor VPN under performance could be related to factors other than the DFL-210. The ONLY problem with the DFL-210 is that it is very hard to configure at first if you are not a professional in networking and/or internet security. Once you get the general configuration idea, sky is the limit with this security appliance.
