Different from most RPGs, in a good wayStrengths: More "modern" "real world" setting Game play that rewards timing and skill Weakness: Real world... not very real Plot gets lost The first SH was fun, if dated by the time I finally got around to playing it. The second was great though, so I was really looking forward to this... and was disappointed. It's not that it's a bad game, it's just a very mediocre game full of cliches. The best thing about it is what made the previous two so unique: the Judgment Ring system. Instead of just mashing X to muscle through battles, you must press it at select times to be able to do pretty much anything, and if you hit it at just the right spot, there are bonuses. This makes battles far more involved than your typical RPG... but that's about it. The rest is VERY much your typical JRPG. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Shadow HeartsStrengths: Nice graphics, ok story Weakness: sort of bland, long trips with no interactions After loving the second shadow hearts so much, the third one was not so great. I couldn't ever really get into it. Even though it was not supposed to be realistic, it could have at least kept true to the setting. For instance, how does someone get from NY to south america in the 1920s? 67% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Shadow Hearts: FTNWStrengths: Gameplay Weakness: boring story I decided to purchase this game after reading various reviews and enjoying Shadow Hearts 2 very much. This game keep me interested early on but I lost interest later on in it. A big disappointment after the last title in the series but it is still okay. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Shadow Hearts: From the New WorldStrengths: Graphics, gameplay Weakness: Story not as good as the previous installments Shadow Hearts:FTNW is an entertaining and fun game. It is a RPG with an adventurous journey. It has its settings in America with real-world locations but the story makes them a bit unbelievable. That aside, the gameplay itself is pretty fun and rewarding. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

For the New World!Strengths: Good battle system Weakness: Doesn't feel as great as the previous installments. Well, technically this game is still pretty good. If you had to compare it to its previous entries, then this one falls a bit short. That doesn't mean it's bad though. Its previous games were great games, and it's hard to compare others to it. I personally found this game to be pretty fun and well worth the money. It's cheap now so I'd personally recommend it to RPG fans. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

A hot game!Strengths: +a fun, modern day RPG Weakness: -not very believable This game is a lot of fun! You spend your play time in a believable recreation of modern day America. However, what's not believable is the menace taking over...otherworldly creatures from hell. While a fun game, it's hard to think of monsters taking over New York City. RPG For Those That Have Good Hand – Eye...Strengths: Judgment Ring enhances the gameplay by rewarding good hand – eye coordination. Quirky characters. Some humor. Stand alone title from the rest of the Shadow Heart series. Weakness: Some annoying characters and voice work, especially the main character. Typical JRPG plot. You have heard this story before about an amnesiac youth meeting allies with common goals, going on a journey, discovering his destiny and saving the world from evil. While the story is somewhat decent but hackneyed, what distinguishes this game is the nifty concept of the judgment ring, which adds interactivity and customization to the battles. Perfect strikes on the judgment ring rewards players with additional bonuses, which adds a level of complexity to the gameplay. Overall, while the story is typical, the gameplay helps distinguish it from the rest of the RPG’s. This is a very underappreciated series so fans of RPG’s should definitely seek this out. Shadow Hearts 3: From the New World
Although it may never reach the massive status set by role-playing king Final Fantasy, over the past several years Shadow Hearts has managed to accumulate a cult following of its own. With the uncanny ability to take real-life locations and transform them into a twisted demon-filled apparition of their former self, it’s easy to see why reaching this status is possible. But Shadow Hearts has... Top

Shadow Hearts From the New World
Strengths: Decent conclusion to the Shadow Hearts trilogy
Weakness: Not quite as good as the second one, drags a bit in parts
Shadow Hearts From The New World is the conclusion to the Shadow Hearts trilogy. The series definitely peaked with the second installment. However, this game is enjoyable enough in its own right even though it doesn't quite live up to the one before it. Like Shadow Hearts Covenant it contains a full assortment of bizarre characters the likes of which are not usually seen in most other RPG games. It brings back the Judgement Ring combat system (where timed button presses are essential to winning battles). A few tweaks have been made to make combos a bit easier to land, but otherwise the battle system is the same as before. The story is fairly well done but it can drag in parts where there is a lot of dungeon crawling with little story advancement. Also, the encounter rate can be annoyingly high at times.
