Great Bargain for a Great Projector

Strengths: Brilliant Color. Numerous input options (HDMI!). Native 720p/16:9. Razor-sharp HD playback.

Weakness: Nothing significant so far. Somewhat limited Zoom. Slight "pinkish" hue during DVD playback. No Audio Out. Bogus Free Lamp offer!

I received this projector from ProjectorPeople on December 16 and have already put about 15 hours of use on it . . . and I couldn't be happier with the purchase! From price (can't beat PP's price!), to setup, to usage, to picture, this is an absolute great projector at a great bargain.
DVDs (from my stand-alone player) look great on this projector (SW Episode 3 looks awesome!) and HDTV (through my computer's HDTV tuner card) looks absolutely incredible. And the kids love watching their movies projected 80" on their bedroom wall!
I do not plan to permanently mount this, so the numerous connectivity options allow me to watch big screen TV anywhere!

I have noticed the rainbow effect on about three occasions, but it was only very briefly (like for a split second) and it occurred only as I viewed the picture at a skewed angle (not directly in front of the picture). As for the "pinkish hue", it is really only noticeable (and barely, at that) during dark scenes of a DVD (not noticeable at all during HD playback)...might have something more to do with the RGB cable I'm using from my DVD player (if it bothered me enough, it could probably be adjusted with some tweaking). The no Audio Out option will only be a factor when I'm viewing the HD content from my computer in another room . . . otherwise it's really no big deal.

I too almost fell for the Free Lamp Offer. I (luckily) noticed on the Mitsub website that there was no Free Lamp offer, so I called them before purchasing...sure enough they cancelled it a full month and a half before the printed expiration date! I of course still bought the projector, but only after I came across the lower price.

I would recommend this projector to anyone, period! Rather you're a home theater novice (as I am/was) or a long time user; an HD buff or a more casual DVD viewer, this projector will not disappoint!

Hd1000u a great value

Strengths: Very bright, great coloring/black levels, very quiet for such a bright projector, much quieter than my previous projector (SP 4805). The HD picture is great. Good picture in light and dark

Weakness: Large, no lens shift, non-hd signals could deinterlace better, poor navigation, limited sizing options, and limited mounting options due to high screen pitch.

The HD1000U is worth every penny. It runs very quiet and is very bright. The picture for movies, hd television, and video games is all great. The color is very realistic and has different gamma options for what you are watching. It seems to have been made to be ceiling hung, as table mounting must be done at a very low height.

Wonderful step up to HD

Strengths: wonderful image quality great bang for the buck 16:9

Weakness: DLP rainbows 16:9

My previous projector was an Epson S3. This beginner line of Epson projectors has its flaws, but overall I thought it was a great projector for the price. I began to get a little nervous that my new projector wouldn't seem like that much of a step up, but boy was I wrong on that.
Unlike the Epson, the pixel screen is virtually invisible - the imgae is very solid, bright, and extra colorful. Right out of the box it got mounted to my existing mount an needed no adjustments... I didn't even need to apply keystoning.
Image and price are, by far, the most important attributes and this projector is outstanding on both. It is also surprisingly watchable with a fair amount of ambient light. That said, I have a bunch of minor nit-picks:
there is some light leak out the top (well, bottom, but it's mounted upside down) and side. My 4:3 sources are now much smaller due to the obvious pillar-boxing within the 16:9 output. The projector lens doesn't have the rapid spread that the Epson had, although it has a zoom - but even so, this weekend I must bust a new hole in my ceiling because the projector must be mounted at least 2 feet farther back that then Epson. (Right now I'm roughly 9' from my 84" screen and I'm at least 10" shy of filling it up. Whereas the Epson would shut down the cooling fan within seconds of turning off the lamp, the Mitsu runs for about a minute. I haven't been successful at getting my Harmony remote to switch sources on the projector at start-up time. And the biggest complaint: while the image is far superior to the S3, the S3 was 3LCD technology while this one is DLP - beautiful picture, but I'm very susceptible to the rainbow effect on high-contrast images. It's mildly driving me nuts. I watched "Cars", which was brightly lit, and I didn't notice any rainbowing. I watched Battlestar Galactica and had to avoid darting my eyes around.
In the HD realm, I still think this is an awesome projector, especially at the

Great Picture Great Price

Strengths: Overall, a bright picture. Good colors, Plays HD-Dvd's and Blu-ray perfectly. Great Price from Projector people

Weakness: Hard to mount to get a huge picture with less than eight foot ceilings. Only one Hdmi connection.

I have had this projector for 2.5 mos. and it is a beautiful picture using High Def images. I can view this during the day with some ambient light. This is one of the cheapest 720P projectors out now.

HD1000U...the U is for Unbelievable!

Strengths: Clarity, Brightness, Ease of Use

Weakness: None..not at this price, or any other!

This projector has all of my friends, who were skeptical, considering buying a front projector for their movie room. The brightness overpowers all but the brightest of ambient lighting (pretty much direct sunlight is the only thing that washes it out (this would happen with any TV). The clarity is amazing, and it doesn't degrade a bit at 100 horizontal inches. The contrast and blacks are phenomenal as well.

SOLD!!!

P.S. I didn't have any problem with the lamp rebate. I purchased this at the end of November, printed out the rebate form, sent it in (had to be within 30 days of invoice date, and before the 31st of Dec), and got my free lamp coupon!

The Best 720p Home Theater Projector Under $1000.

Strengths: Native 1280x720 resolution. Aesthetically pleasing. Life of bulb is 3000 hours with eco-mode. Vibrant picture quality.

Weakness: It is bigger than the picture led me to believe. It is quite noisy and produce a quite amount of heat.

Overall, this is an excellent projector for under $1000. At 1500 ANSI, the projector produces the best picture quality if the room is completely dark. The picture quality was still good when I had a dim light on. The noise bothered me a little bit. With my 5.1 sound system, I quickly forget about the noise when watching movies or playing video games. If you leave your hand next the vent, you feel as if you can keep a cup of coffee hot if you place it next the the projector. The heat will not be much of an issue if you mount it on the ceiling. I highly recommend this projector for those whose budget are not quite there for a 1080p projector.

Just love it!

Strengths: competitive price, image quality, multiple source compatibility

Weakness: Not suitable for small rooms; lack of flexibility

I did a lot of research before buying this projector. After I decided to buy entry level home theater projectors offering 720p, I first looked at LCD projectors around 1400 dollars, for their image quality (for the money), flexibility and much lower price than the DLP projectors. The introduction of the two entry level DLP projectors (Optoma HD70 and this one) into the market changed everything. I fell for Mitsubishi because of its image quality and lower price than the optoma. HD1000D also received better review than HD70 in some forums. After I got this projector, we were all amazed at the sharp image, color accuracy (cinema mode) and the joy we can get from this small box alone. Movie watching experience becomes even better after we got the Draper high contrast grey screen which really makes the image pop out. I will never consider a large TV now that even an entry level projector can amaze us as such, The only complaint is about its long throw distance. Image can be sharper (but considering the price, I cannot complain at all). I also noticed some light leakage, but it does not bother me at all. I enthusiastically recommend this projector to those with large room (at least 13 feet) who are looking for home theater joy.

Great projector, ripoff rebate

Strengths: Vivid image, good image adjustment features, great connectivity, relatively quiet cooling fan.

Weakness: Mitsubishi's near fraudulent rebate joke

Was offered with a rebate coupon for a free lamp valid until 12/31/2006 . I purchased it on 11/23/2006, mailed the rebate the day after delivery, and this rebate was a deciding factor in the purchase. Today I received a reply from Mitsubishi stating they had decided to cancel the rebate program on 11/21...with no notification (this was not the only site to still list the rebate as active). I'm sure they reserved the right to do so in their small print, but this stinks. I will NEVER buy a Mitsubishi product of any kind again, it's not the money...I can buy a replacement lamp when I need one, it's the principal.

Great Value and Viewing

Strengths: Crisp image, bright colors, dark blacks

Weakness: Zoom range is limited

After watching the projector market for a couple of years, I finally took the plunge with this projector and couldn't be happier with the results. I have a fairly large living room, so placement of the projector was somewhat flexible -- I have it on a tonsu about ten feet away from the wall that I'm projecting onto. Even without a screen, the image is very impressive, with bright vivid colors and rich blacks. I am not experiencing any screen door or rainbow effects with the projector.

I am using an Oppo 970 upconverting DVD player with an HDMI connection, along with a panasonic HDMI receiver. Based on my research, I decided it was as important to get the right cables and upconverting DVD player to ensure that the image would be as sharp and colorful as possible. I couldn't be more pleased with the results.

Excellent Native 720p projector

Strengths: High lumen output for a dedicated home theatre projector, excellent black level, on-board scaler

Weakness: no lens shift, small zoom range(1.2x)

Overall this is an outstanding projector for use in a dedicated home theatre or for a family room with some ambient light. It really shines watching HDTV movies (in cinema mode) in a darkened room or sporting events in a partially lit room. I would recommend ceiling mounting, as its lack of lens shift and limited zoom make anything else quite difficult. The lens placement in the center of the unit make it ideal for a ceiling mount.

Its on-board scaler makes standard-def DVDs and television look quite good, however if this is its primary use, there are far better values in native 4:3 projectors.

Overall, the contrast was excellent, even better than other units with the same 2500:1 ratio, and nearly as good as my CRT projector with 4 times the stated amount. A great buy for anyone that watches a lot of widescreen or HDTV programming and has a room that can be at least partially darkened.

HD1000U Better than I could have imagined!

Strengths: Brightness Clarity Ease of use

Weakness: Projection Height

I could not have hoped for a better product than the HD1000U projector. My fears were that it wouldn't be bright enough with ambient light present, but it's sports mode and option to chose between standard and low bulb settings kept the picture viewable even with cigar smoke and open sliding-glass doors. Wait until you watch a really clear high-def signal (hockey is phenominal) on this projector. All I can say is WOW! I would match this up to any DLP rear projection set, and this picture gets much bigger.

It does project either really high, or really low, depending on if you have it right side up, or inverted. I would recommend hanging it from the ceiling.

Mitsubishi HD1000U Home Theater Video Projector

Considering the brightness, the beautifully balanced color, and the street prices under $1500, the Mitsubishi HD1000U is an extraordinary value. In terms of sheer price/performance, it is probably the strongest home theater offering we've seen from Mitsubishi. Its key advantages include high brightness for large screen or ambient light conditions, and terrific color balance and saturation. For...
