Epson Stylus Photo R200 Printer

Strengths: Technology, Versitility, Build Quality, Useable software (for a change), Price

Weakness: Same as all of them - consumable costs. Propriety ink and paper prices. Ouch.

As user reviews indicate, this is a MUCH better printer than what so called "technology critics" give it credit for. First off, this is a "photo printer" get it, critics? Say it slow now... P-H-O-T-O P-R-I-N-T-E-R. Why do they weight silly things like minor variances in print speed so high, and ignore the items I've listed below? Why knock it for not doing things it was not designed to do (like produce near-laser quality text. Text printing quality/speed is better than acceptable by the way...) and all but fluff off things like its capability to print borderless on a wide variety of paper sizes - which is somethings other printers in its class (and above) usually can't do, and print directly on CDs/DVDs which other printers can't do at all? Glad I ignored them on this one...

This printer is a compelling choice in its class for the following reasons:

1. Technology: 6 color printer, individual ink tanks, 3 picoliter drops, and micropiezo technology combine to produce prints which are visibley >better than< lab (I did some side by side comparisons) when using Epson ink and paper.

2. Versitility:borderless prints on ALL paper sizes up to 8 1/2 X 11(!) CD/DVD print capability.

3. BUILD QUALITY! This does NOT look/feel like a budget printer.

4. Useable Software. Includes a PS compatible plug-in for print/printer profile quality management.

5. All of the above packed in a $100 printer.

I don't know who you are "ntrop from PA", But I had to write and personally thank you for that review you gave. You are definately one of the few who actually get it! I appreciate your humor inflected into what they just don't seem to realize... How we use it, and what we want it for in the first place. You comments really helped. Thanks again, Splasher

Epson Stylus Photo R200 Printer

Strengths: Superb quality of photos, good software package, easy setup, very low initial cost.

Weakness: Set of ink cartridges cost between $65 and $80. If you forget to shut it off and let it sit for several days the ink head has to be cleaned, may take several cleanings and eats up ink.

I would reccomend it, the quality is as close to a photograph as I have seen. You can get about 30 8x10 photos out of a set of ink cartridges. If you run out of ink in any of the cartridges it will not print. Always keep a set of spare ink cartridges. Something that they don't tell you is that after about 4 cartridge changes a message appears stating "certain parts are approaching the end of their life cycle and service is required", ignore the message and the printer goes into error cycle after about 10-20 more copies. Now you have a choice, send it in for service or throw it out. A new printer will cost $75.00 at one of the discount clubs and includes a set of cartridges ($63.00 value). Sending it in for service will cost shipping, plus service. I have thrown out 2 of them so far.

Epson Stylus Photo R200 Printer

Strengths: CD Printing! The main reason why I bought this printer and let me say, the prints are gorgeous.

Weakness: haven't found any yet

Before I bought this printer, I had the canon I950, which is a very good printer, but lacks CD/DVD printing. I did some research and I could only find the Epson which has CD/DVD printing at an affordable price. Very good all purpose printer, even prints pictures!

Epson Stylus Photo R200 Printer

Strengths: Prints onto cd/dvd.

Weakness: Eats up a lot of ink

The reason I purchased the R200 was because it printed onto cd/dvd's.
I didn't really need another printer since the Epson 820 I was using was about only one year old and was just fine.

But, since I burn a fair amount of dvd's, I really wanted to do a better job on the face of the disk rather than use the avery adhesive labels that I thought was a bit "sticky" to work with.

The software that comes with the R200 is "Print CD", and is the easiest of all the disk labels I've tried.

When I first got the R200 a few weeks ago, I was a bit perplexed with how to get the image onto the disk, and then put some text onto also.

But, its the easiest disk label system to use. I'm very happy I purchased it.
I'll be purchasing two more of them for my daughters to use.

R200

Strengths: Great price for quality.

Weakness: Expensive ink refills!!

This is my second Epson. My first was a c84 printer that was loud and slow. This printer is quick and almost silent. You can make all kinds of adjustments in the menu. I've printed a few CD's and they came out nice. You have to let them dry about 24hrs. before handling though. Text is very sharp also. I was planning on buying a laser for text but now there's no need to. Photos that I've printed look great when using good photo paper. Ink is expensive so I've started filling my own, it's messy if you are not carfull but it saves a lot of money. To sum it all up I'd buy this printer again and now you can buy one for around $50, that's about $30 less than what I paid.

Epson Stylus Photo R200 Printer

Strengths: Incredible quality of pictures for such a small price

Weakness: None yet

This is a great little printer. What incredible picture quality! My pictures come out as though they were from my corner photo lab. I could not have imagined that I would be able to afford such quality.

Epson Stylus Photo R200 Printer

Strengths: Prints good CD/DVD covers and photo prints. It also prints good graphics on regular copy paper.

Weakness: Prints a bit slow. No USB cable in box.

The R200 is a good buy for the price. It was easy to install the software that came with the package and setup the printer.

I use the printer mainly to print on CDs and DVDs. So far, the prints have been good. I have printed over 200 covers. The Epson Print CD software is very user friendly and makes it easy to create your own covers (my vacation DVDs and picture CDs now have a professional look to them).

Overall this is a solid printer.

Epson Stylus Photo R200 Printer

Strengths: unbelivable 8x10 color prints!! You can't tell the difference between a lab and prints printed with this printer

Weakness: none

This product is great! I use 7 Epson printers in my photography business. It was purchased as a replacement for my Epson Stylus Photo 820. Epson is the king in Photography printing. At only 99 bucks no one beats it.

Epson Stylus Photo R200 Printer

Strengths: Incredible photos, low price. separate ink cartridges

Weakness: none

I had an Epson 820 photo that finally died after two years of heavy use. The photos were nice, but it was slow and drank ink like crazy. I replaced it with the R200 which is amazing. I didn't need the memory card slots and other features of some of the higher end Epson models, so I got this one right after they came out. For $99 I can't believe what a great job this does at printing photos, which is mostly what I use it for. The prints on photo paper are better than I could have imagined. It doesn't go through ink as fast as the 820 and with the separate tanks it seems much more economical to use. I haven't tried printing on DVDs and I don't use the Epson software so I can't judge that.

Great Printer Buy

Strengths: Inexpensive, Prints on CDs, 6 ink color system, easy CD print software

Weakness: None after over 300 CDs/DVDs

I bought this printer specifically to print on CDs & DVDs for my home business. It has served well in that capacity. The CD printing software is easy to use and the quality is outstanding. I have printed over 300 CD/DVD discs and I'm still on the original cartridges!

If you buy Epson replacement inks, you will almost pay for the printer again with the first replacement set. However there are a number of Epson compatible ink brands available for as little as $3 to $4 per cartridge. I use replacements inks on all my Epson printers(4) and they work just as well.

You can't get more printer for the money.

"I have printed over 300 CD/DVD discs and I'm still on the original cartridges!"

That's great to hear. As a professional graphic designer I'm getting a Canon i9900 for the serious stuff, but would love an inexpensive but reliable printer solely for printing CD/DVDs. Plus: with the Apple rebate, I'm getting this printer free, making it especially attractive!

Epson Stylus Photo R200 Printer

Strengths: Lower Cost, Convenience, Risk-Free - Eliminate Potential Drive Damage

Weakness: If you run out of color ink, but just want to print black and white, too bad! The "black ink only" function doesn't work if there are any empty ink cartridges.

This printer rocks. Fast, smooth, quiet and the quality is awesome for printing out prints especially borderless.
There is little hassle with the tray to print the CD's on though.

I had the same issue with my cannon printer at home - when you run out of 1 color and have an empty cartridge in the printer, it won't print. To get around this I finally decided to just remove the empty cartridge. It "tricked" the printer, and I could continue to print. I hope this makes you a little happier with the printer.

Epson Stylus Photo R200 Printer

Strengths: Exceptional color !! I was looking for a quick and dirty printer to print out some brochures. I picked this up for less than a hundred dollars and I can NOT believe the Vibrant Colors.

Weakness: I have not seen any weakness in this machine.

I have had this printer for a little more than a week now, and I am totally impressed with it. I just purchased a Color Laser Printer for our office and spent 10x the amount that I paid for this Epson. This R200 is not as fast but the color laser printer but the colors are a LOT more brilliant. I would HIGHLY recommend this to ANYONE who does any digital photography as I do.

Epson Stylus Photo R200 Printer

Strengths: Great Colors on photos AND DVDs. Printed material came out great also. Easy to use software. Quick hookup/setup and the price is easy on the pocketbook!

Weakness: CD/DVD tray sometimes needs a nudge to get set correctly. No auto paper-type detector as on another photo printer I had.

Bought this primarily for printing on CDs and DVDs. Once you get the hang of starting the disc tray in the correct spot, this printer is fast, accurate, quiet, and the colors are pretty spot on to my artwork. The price was definitely affordable! I was actually surprised and impressed by the clarity and quality of my photos that I printed with this also. I had intended to keep my original HP photo printer hooked up, and use the Epson for discs and slip cover inserts. Once I saw the quality of photos, I use this for all my printing needs. I've been using for 2 months, and have printed roughly 150 discs, 30 full color pages and 20 color photos, and haven't had to change out the ink yet! Very happy with this purchase. Only reason I didn't give this a 5-star rating, is because it's the first one I've used and I have nothing to compare it to.

Epson Stylus Photo R200 Printer

Strengths: Great quality photo printing and the cd printing option of printing directly on your cd is fantastic. 6 ink cartridges give you great photo quality. In the past owned HP's, I've switched.

Weakness: I could not find any yet.

I am very pleased with this purchase. Would highly recommend this to anyone owning digital cameras. Very easy to print out 4x6 prints. Love the option and software for printing labels directly on your CD. Label software provided with printer is user friendly. 6 individual print cartridges provide great photo prints.

Epson Stylus Photo R200 Printer

Strengths: AWESOME PHOTO QUALITY, UNABLE TO REALIZE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A NORMAL 4X6 AND THE OUTPUT OF THIS MACHINE - 6 COLOR PRINTING USE A LOT OF BLUE ONLY REPLACE BLUE

Weakness: NONE AS OF YET

THE PRINTER WAS A REPLACEMENT FOR THE EPSON PHOTO 820, GREAT MACHINE ALSO. I BOUGHT AS A COMPANION TO MY KODAK DX7630, ANOTHER AWESOME MACHINE. WITH IT 4X6 MODE AND THE PRINTERS BORDERLESS PHOTO 4X6 PAPER, OUTPUT IS STUNNING. THE SOFTWARE THAT COMES WITH THE PRINTER IS GREAT ALSO. INK FOR THIS MACHINE IS THE CHEAPEST I HAVE FOUND IN COMPARISON TO OTHER MODELS. ESPON HAS SEVERAL OTHER MORE EXPENSIVE MODELS, THAT INCLUDE "PC FREE" PRINTING, BUT WHAT FOR? WE ALL HAVE LAPTOPS, OR DESTOP PCS. I HAVE YET HEARD OF SOMEONE CARRING THEIR PRINTER WITH THEIR DIGITAL CAMERA??? IF YOU WANT A PORTABLE PHOTO PRINTER BUY ONE, THEY ARE ONLY $40 MORE THAT THIS MODEL AND WAY MORE COMPACT.

Epson Stylus Photo R200 Printer

Strengths: Beautiful, vibrant prints

Weakness: none yet

I've only had this printer a day, but I had to comment on how gorgeous the prints that I have made are (4x6). I am a graphic designer, so I am very critical of quality and ink drop size. You would pretty much need a magnifying glass to be able to tell they are ink jet prints. You absolutely could not find better quality for this price.

Epson Stylus Photo R200 Printer

Strengths: This is a great printer at an even better price. It's strengths are it's print quality and CD/DVD printing features. It's also very quiet and extremely easy to install.

Weakness: I haven't found any weaknesses yet.

I bought this printer primarily to print to CD & DVDs. I was tired of printing labels. Labels just don't look as good as printing directly on the CD/DVD. At $99 I just couldn't pass up the opportunity.
I'm really impressed with the quality. I used Ritek G04 Inkjet printable DVDs in it and to me the quality looks like a purchasd the DVD from a retail store.
I recommend this printer to anybody who wants an inexpensive CD/DVD printer that also prints great photos too!

Strengths: Saved me money!

Weakness: None

I purchased this model because I needed a CD/DVD printer only! The print were very clear as if it was an original CD/DVD. There were other models of printer that were equipped with a variety of functions that I would not be using. The Epson Stylus R200 inkjet printer saved me a lot of money!

Epson Stylus Photo R200 Printer

Strengths: great color transfer from computer to printed page

Weakness: haven't found any yet

I bought this printer after taking a flash card with my own artwork to the store for trials. I previously had a decent Canon printer but the discrepancy of colors from what was on the monitor to what was printed on the greeting card was wide and terrible. At the store I plugged in the flash card and using my own greeting card paper tried several machines. Without question this Epson was by far the best. I haven't yet tried photo paper versions.

Epson Stylus Photo R200 Printer

Strengths: CD Print Quality.

Weakness: Just a tad bit slow printing on CD's, but overall, not bad!

Definitely a "must have" item for inexpensive CD printing. CD tray easy to use and CD print quality extremely nice. I was very impressed. I have not used it to print on regular paper, so I can not comment on it's ability. Hopefully, ink tank replacement won't cost me an arm and a leg.

I love the cd/dvd feature. I had problems at first because the disc tray would go in and then come right back out with nothing printed on it. I then realized I had the printer sitting too near the back of my cabinet and the tray was going through the printer and hitting the cabinet. I moved the printer forward and everything was great.

Does Everything

Strengths: Quick and easy to use

Weakness: You need to have all colors of ink to work

This printer is very easy to use for documents, papers, or photos. The only problem is that you cannot print in black and white if you run out of color ink. Make sure you always have extra ink. Other than that little issue it a good printer for everyday use.

Poor CD Printing

Strengths: Decent Print Quality

Weakness: Repeated Sticking of CD Tray

I bought this printer only to use for printing CDs. Since the beginnig, I have had repeated problems with the CD tray sticking, resulting in printer error messages, which require turning off the printer and restarting all over again. This takes a lot of time and is quite irritating and if there was a better and more reliable alternative to this printer, I would throw it away and buy the alternative.

Terrible

Strengths: Price relatively good quality for such a cheap price.

Weakness: Runs out of ink fairly quickly, average print speed, and worst of all: now has an internal error!

This printer was purchased a year ago. After using it to print regular documents on a regular basis, the cartridges needed refilling. After using a refilling kit, the printer started having errors. First, it gave me a paper-jam error, even though the printer wasn't jammed with anything. From here, it was off and on (worked then didn't work), then finally I got a general error. After communicating with Epson for several weeks, they finally said that if none of their suggestions to fix it worked, the printer would have to be serviced. Serviced? Lol! I'll just buy a new printer, a new non-Epson one that is...

Can't be beat from a $$$/Performance standpoint!!!

Strengths: *Cheap! *Excellent Color and B&W -Prints gorgeous 8x10s (I've had my best results using Ilford Gallrie Smooth Pearl paper. $25 for 100 8.5x11 sheets at Sam's Club)

Weakness: *Kinda on the slow side. But good things take time. ;) *Will not print when one cartridge goes empty. This cuts both ways. It prevents you from wasting paper.

This is more of a shutterbug's review of this printer. I'd say 95% of the printouts I do are photos. Haven't used the CD printing yet, but it looks cool.

Bought this printer (refurb) on 5/2005 for $77 (shipping included) off of Epson's site. Couldn't be happier. It's like having a Color and B&W darkroom, but a lot faster and easier. For those of you who have tried developing your own color negatives and prints (shudder!), you'll know what I mean.

It does drink ink (what photo printer doesn't). I've hooked up this baby with a Continuous Ink System (CIS), and I'm off and running. CIS cost me $100 and it came pre-filled with 100ml of dye ink. This lasted me 7 months with heavy printing. Just ordered a dye ink refill kit (6 bottles, 100ml each) for $34. Just keep refilling the CIS and enjoy the printouts! I'm guessing that this setup costs me about $0.35 per sheet (paper and ink).

Love it!!!
