Remote for olympus cameras

Strengths: It controls a shutter of Olympus E500 remotely

Weakness: Too expensive

I use this remote for Olympus E500 dSLR. It works as it is supposed to do. I mainly use this for controling the shutter for family portrait. So, it works well as long as I use this remote from the front of the camera. Some people complain that the remote does not work from the side or back. I paid $25 for this remote, but I think it is too expensive for just a remote shutter. It should be much cheaper, or should come with the camera.

The Olympus is inherently capable of producing excellent results for a most modest outlay of funds, and to find the remote 'overpriced' or to suggest it should be "included in the price of the camera" is only to suggest this user is so tight that he squeaks when he walks. I am a man of most modest means indeed, and find it desirable to purchase the real (i.e. Olympus) product as opposed to a lesser 'knockoff' as experience has led me to gravitate to the product designed and birthed in the same barn. I could just as easily spent ten dollars less, but wish 'Oympus' to be displayed on the product, regardless of the fact that the camera and remote are both stamped 'Made in China' which is wholly another sad tale... Expensive? Definitely a subjective concept, whereas 'cheap' figures prominently in this individual's profile...

Useful but too expensive

Strengths: Remote just functions as a remote control

Weakness: Price is too high

I got this from amazon.com where the lowest price I could find. It still costs me more than 25 bucks. When I got it, I could not wait to use on my new olympus E500 camera. It works. I am not too much excited but just felt I got something I can use to take a picture of myself wheneve I am travelling alone. If you can find one for under 20 bucks, it should be an ok deal.

does its job

Strengths: Easy to use

Weakness: way overpriced. cannot control from behind

This tiny remote control is way overpriced at $30. The W and T and - and + buttons do not work with my Evolt 300. I paid $30 for just a remote shutter release (just to stablize my picture). Many digital cameras have a remote control in the original package now. Why doesn't olympus?

Does a Job, Could Take on More

Strengths: Works with the E-Volt E-500 DSLR

Weakness: Only triggers the shutt on E-Volt E-500 Too Tight a Beam

I purchased the RM-1 to act as a remote shutter trigger for the E-Volt E-500 DSLR when doing studio shots with long shutter times. I did not want camera shake to blur the photo, and wanted a remote way of triggering the shutter.

It works.

However, the field of working is narror. This is partially because of the placement of the IR-receptor on the E-500, and partially because of the very tight beam that the RM-1 projects. If I'm taking close, tight shots, it can be frustating getting the RM-1 in front of the camera to take the shot (don't want the hand in the picture!).

I also wish that Olympus had given the E-500 some way of customizing the zoom and plus/minus buttons on the remote. They do nothing with the E-500.

If you need a remote trigger, get the RM-1. If you are just looking, ask Olympus for their future plans for remotes!

good remote

Strengths: well made, you can zoom in/out as well as take shots

Weakness: n/a

The remote does what it's supposed to do. I am using this with an Olympus E-300, so the zoom won't work because the zoom is mechanic on E-300. You will only be able to fire shots from the remote. The range is pretty good for at least 20ft with about 60 degrees angle. The remote seems well made.
