Good and cheap DVD player

Strengths: Can be made region free using hacks Less expensive Does its job Small, compact and light weight

Weakness: Construction is not good, very fragile Very sensitive, hangs on scratches Few functions

This player very good for moderate usage. Will break if it is used very heavily due to its cheap built. The power cord started shaking after I moved it few times and the soldering broken inside. Had to send for an exchange.

Easy to hack to make it region free so that it will play any region DVD.

Very small, compact and light weight so easy to carry.

Doesn't play divx movies, of course for this price I can't expect to play those but it would have been nice add on.

Will recommend for those who are searching for cheap, compact, light weight player and moderate users.

You get what you paid for... and that is a good...

Strengths: Light and compact, easy to use

Weakness: Does not play all formats

My daughter won one of these for fundraising. After she used it for a while, we decided to buy a second one for my older daughter's room.

Now, considering the price, this was a great purchase for our family. They are easy to use and very compact in nature. My girls are thirteen and ten and both love these players. In fact, I am constantly stealing my movies back from their bedroom. My youngest has complained about the DVD skipping from time to time or even stopping at times. She has been using it a lot for two years now so it may just need cleaned.

The remote control is very sleek and compact as well. For us, it is a bad thing as my girls continuously have to look for them.

Overall, I am very pleased with our purchase and would definitely buy again if needed.

Colby 209 DVD Player

Strengths: I like it's compact size. It is easy to set up quickly. The price was low.

Weakness: It is a noisy when you first start it up. While watching a movie it has an occasionally jerks or stutter.

When I bought this product I was looking for a DVD player that I could movie to different locations quickly and easily. I would say this does exactly what I wanted it to do. The only feature I wish it had that it doesn't is a head phone port so I could hook speakers to it when I am using a projector. I am pleased with this product and may buy another one.

Coby DVD-209 DVD Player

Strengths: cheap, light weight, compact and attactive design.

Weakness: functionwise, not powerful

It's very compact and easy to move from place to place, and it can take 110v to 240v which allows me to carry it oversea. So far it has played with every DVD I have. The downside is it doesn't have many features I had expected.

Coby DVD player

Strengths: Compact and easy to use. Silver color matches nicely with tv and stereo systems.

Weakness: Durability

DVD player was a freebie with a 32" LCD TV. It's compatible to Viewsonic. Plays DVD's fine. Easy set-up. Plug it into TV and push play. No fancy features and durability a question, but for value it's good-to-go.

Good player, but not durable

Strengths: cheap. small. able to become region free.

Weakness: will break down within a year. Not good for the environment.

I bought this brand new and used it as my main dvd player. I freezes up now and then, but I can live with that. But it finally broke down about 9 months of constant use. The thing just stopped spinning and has a no dvd message. The design was good, but the components are cheap and don't last. I looked inside and saw the cheap motor which is probably the culprit. I was loud and seemed to be struggling even while it was working. But I did get a good 9 months out of it. But too bad it's heading to the landfill.

Coby compact DVD player

Strengths: Small, inexpensive, has digital audio output

Weakness: no battery operation, composite video out only

The Coby portable dvd player is a little bit larger than a portable cd player. We've been using it as an inexpensive dvd player for the kids bedroom. It does NOT operate on battery power, so it is not really a true portable, just compact in size.

The unit has played dvd's better than our larger Sony player (which sometimes will not play certain discs). The included remote has good range but suffers from tiny buttons. The video out signal is NOT component but only composite, so you will not get the best picture. For the kids room, this works out fine. Overall a good player for the money.

UPDATE: less than a year old BOTH my units broke! Not worth fixing.

Compact DVD-209 Player

Strengths: Small, compact, easy to carry around, easy setup, good value (cheap)

Weakness: Flimsy, cheaply built, loud noise, bad remote control interface.

This small, compact DVD player is ideal for traveler. You can pack it and connect to your hotel TV quick and easy. But because of its cheaply built design, I'm afraid it could be broken down easy too. When start, it makes this loud noise, I thought it was defective, but according to the review here, it's normal. The remote control is hard to use. I couldn't get it play some of my recorded DVD either. Overall, it does what it's supposed to for a cheap, compact, light weight DVD player.

DVD Player Review

Strengths: -Value for cost -Size -Aesthetics

I received this dvd player for free as part of a promotion, so obviously for that price I wasn't expecting too much. So far I've used it a handful of times though and I haven't had any problems playing regular dvd's on it. It's nice and compact, sleek design, and simple to use. I have no complaints about it.

cheap DVD player

Strengths: compact, light weight, paly muliti types discs

Weakness: limited features

Capable of playing multiple types of recordable and rewritable discs. But this player this DVD player's features seem very weak. It lacks DTS output capability, so it will not play back DTS soundtracks.
If you want a cheap, region free (has to be hacked, but it is easy and won't break the unit), light weight and traveling player (this can take 110v to 240v), this might be player for you.

Coby DVD Player DVD-209

Strengths: Not much .. cheap, small size

Weakness: Flimsy build, no front display, does not play recorded DVD media

The first thing which caught my attention was that lid. I pressed the open button and it barely opened so I forcefully opened it up. Even after closing opening a couple times, it still didn't open all the way. There is no LCD display so you do need a TV (cannot use this to play MP3 unless you never want to jump to a particular song). I have another Coby DVD player and it would not play any recordable DVD media; same with this one. I tried various DVD media which are playable on my other Apex DVD player but they are all not readable on this.

DVD-209 DVD Player review

Strengths: Compact in size, remote, easy to set up, cheap

Weakness: don't expect many function from this little machine, really noisy, no lcd,

Have had this little machine for a couple of days and I am overall satisfied. It plays DVD, even though not very quietly and sometimes jerks a little bit, and does not support a lot of formats, but I am happy with the low price I paid for it. You really need to point the remote directly to the dvd precisely otherwise it won't work.

Quirky DVD Player - Not Best Value in this Price...

Strengths: Compact and lightweight design, inexpensive, easy to set up (but with a weakness - see Comments below)

Weakness: Loud noise when playing, Bad top loading design, Some "bad disc" errors before player warms up, Random jerky/pizelated image quality

I was first surprised by the compact size of the unit and expected great things - from the description, it seemed incredibly versatile.

I connected the DVD player to a television using the included RCA cables and turned it on - and there was no picture or sound at all! I opened the instruction booklet, hoping there was something in the troubleshooting section to help solve this problem, but couldn't find anything. After carefully reviewing the hook up diagrams, I determined that the video connection was in a different location than the yellow RCA female connector on the unit. Swapping the cables around and, suddenly, everything works. It seems that the company mixed up the yellow RCA video connector and the red audio RCA connector on the unit.

Okay, issue #2 - this player is top loading. Seems simple enough - you press the eject button, the DVD compartment top opens, you set the disc inside and close it, then press play. Well, the design isn't quite that good. You have to press the disc down onto the "hub" like in the old portable CD players. The difficulty with this design arises when you have to remove the disc - it sometimes takes alot of force to get the disc out, even bending it a bit.And considering that the top only opens so far, if you have large hands, this can be a bit difficult. A tray loading design would have been much better, even at the loss of some of the compact size of the unit.

Issue #3 - Performance of the unit as a player. The player is much louder than any other player I've used, and I've used quite a few over the years ranging from cheap (similar price range) to much more expensive. Beyond that, while the player is warming up, I received alot of "bad disc" type messages and, once the disc was recognized and the player started to play, the picture would get jumpy or show some pixelation (similar to watching a bad quality mpeg-4 movie on your computer). This seemed to pass once the player warmed up and then everything seemed to work fine.

The good parts: Once warmed up, the player seemed to play every disc I put in it - commercial CDs, burned CDs, commercial DVDs, and burned DVD+R Dual Layer discs. Included remote control worked well and is ultra thin. Hookup is the standard RCA cables (two audio channels and one video channel).

Overall conclusion: If you're looking for a back up DVD player or one to use in a kid's room to watch cartoons or something, this might fit the bill. Might even work well for portable use given that it seems to secure the DVD inside well. I wouldn't recommend this unit as a primary DVD player, however. There are other cheap players out there in a similar price range that perform far better: Apex comes to mind immediately.

Decent player

Strengths: extremely small, light weight, inexpensive, can be made region free,

Weakness: Doesn't have and screen window, Doesn't play Divx

This dvd player plays everything, and can be made region free. Its not a brand name but is quite decent, allowing me to play all the dvds I have from different countries. It's inexpensive, and I haven't have any problems with it. A great buy for a low price.

Nice little player

Strengths: Very compact and light weight. Plays lots of formats

Weakness: No LCD display

Very light and compact. Other than DivX, it plays almost all formats. It also handles world wide voltage and supports both PAL and NTSC TVs. Price is good. Only if it has the LCD display, but I guess that will jack up the price. Keep my fingers crossed about reliability.

Small DVD Player

Strengths: Small size. Simple and easy to use. Cheap. Comes with a remote.

Weakness: Not all DVDs work on this player.

It is cheap, simple and easy to use. It does not have a lot of features but works. I do not like to carrying a bulky dvd with me so this good for movies on the go. And it is also light weight.

This DVD player is not very good

Strengths: Small, Stylish, low price

Weakness: Loud Noise, Can not read DVD+R and DVD+R, and top loading mechanism.

This DVD player is rather or poor quality. It feels cheap and I am regreting buying it. IT created loud noise when started up. It can not read DVD+R and DVD+RW despite the advertising features saying it could. This DVD player also skipping in certain movie. I recommend buying it at very low price but never more than 20 dollars.

Not good – Waste of Money

Strengths: Compact Size, World Voltage Support, Nothing much else

Weakness: Does not play all DVDs (DVD+R, DVD-R), Confusing Remote Control, Loading of DVD media from Top, Dose not have all minimum required buttons on DVD player (requires remote)

I bought this DVD player 2 weeks ago. It is very compact in size and support 220/100 Volts input. Did not find much positive things. It’s technical description says it can play DVD+R and DVD-R DVDs, but when I tried to run them it is not playing. Same DVDs I can play on other different brand DVD player. Remote control is too confusing. I could not find the fast forward and fast reverse button, there are 2 buttons for next and previous chapter but not for forward and reverse. GoTo button also does not work on all DVDs. Not able to play bit old (with few scratches) DVD videos, while other players play them without player. Do not recommend. I am going to return it as not satisfied with the product.
