This DWL-2100AP from D-Link Rocks!!!Strengths: This AP works very well without the difficulty of configuring it. Weakness: None I would definitely recommend this product (I also have the DI-624 for years now).... it took me few minutes to configure and have it running.... I am currently using this as the repeater for my wireless router (also from DI-Link). 100% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Serves Purpose WellStrengths: Highly adaptable as P2P Bridge or Bridge. Swappable antenna. Weakness: Weak documentation I bought this unit to compliment my home wireless network consisting of the DI-624 Rev. C router and DWL-G520 PCI Adapters. The primary purpose of the DWL-2100AP was to act as a repeater and it does just that quite well. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

D-Link DWL-2100AP AirPlus Xtreme G Wireless Access...Strengths: Easy setup, web interface. Weakness: Insufficient logging, no NTP. Out of the box I was able to configure it and replace my existing DLink DI-624 router in a matter of minutes (didn't need the router functionality). The range is good and I didn't have to reconfigure my wireless cards (I use WPA-PSK and there were no compatibility issues). However, it doesn't have the ability to set the time via NTP. In fact, there seems to be no way to set the time at all, but, then again, there don't seem to be any specific logs (like connects/disconnects/etc.), so I guess there's no need for the time. There are statistics for packet count and such but I'd rather know who is connected than how much traffic their passing (actually, I'd like to know both but I only get an aggregate of overall traffic with this unit). I would expect the same logging functionality as in the router, but maybe with new firmware sometime in the future? 85% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Works as expected
Strengths: Works fine as an AP Client
Weakness: Rebooting after each configuration change slightly annoying (but probably necessary).
I have purchased the DWL-2100AP mainly to work as an AP client (eventually with an external antenna, to provide a link over longer distances - the AP's antenna is detachable, so tinkernig with antennas is relatively easy). I received the package today, and, of course, tried the AP immediately. Contrary to some reports you can find on the Internet, you DO NOT need another DWL-2100AP to work as the AP: my DWL-2100 in the Client Mode works just fine with an Actiontec GT701-WG wireless router (from Qwest package), using WPA. Sure, they wrote in the manual that you need another DWL-2100AP, but they just want to sell you another device. :)
It is also possible that the reported problems used to occur with the old firmware. My AP was supplied with its current (in April '06), 2.0 version. Just be sure to configure the gateways, netmasks etc. properly.
Also contrary to some reports, the device does not run very hot (just slightly warm).
Overally the AP does what I was expecting it to do, so I am giving it 5.
