Polaroid PDC 5080 5.1 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: lightweight

Weakness: photo quality is dissappointing

for a 5.0mp camera it takes terrible pics, tried every light setting tried adjusting camera settings, I am taking it back tomm. I thought polaroid would try to make a decent attempt with such a great name behind them.

A little good, a little bad. Take your pick.

Strengths: Light, economical camera. 5.1 Megapixels. Uses regular AA batteries (included). Easy transfer to your computer through USB port. Can print directly to photo printer with PcitBridge. Can take video.

Weakness: No real zoom (only 4X digital zoom). Choppy video. Slow to process pictures when you take them. No special effects.

At first glance I was unhappy with the camera. It feels very plasticy and light even with the batteries in it. The zoom is terrible on this thing. There is only a 4x digital zoom and no optical zoom at all. The net effect is your best pictures will be those you take as is. It has an annoying beep when you start using it but you can get rid of that very easily. Picture quality is just so so as far as I'm concerned. Close up shots are horrible.

That being said, this isn't a bad little camera for what most people would buy it for: to use as a throwaway. It doesn't have all the bells and whistes that newer, more expensive cameras have, but it gets the job done. And you won't feel bad keeping it in your pocket or in your car just in case you need a camera on the fly. It takes decent pictures and you can use up to a 1GB SD memory card so you can store hundreds of pictures. You can record video with sound but the quality is very choppy and blurry.

The package includes 2 AA batteries, a wrist cord, the camera, a camera case, a USB cord, and photo editing software. I haven't used the camera long enough to see how long the batteries last but since there aren't any major battery draining options on the camera they should last awhile.

Transferring pictures to your computer is quick and painless with the USB wire and you can even print pictures directly to a photo printer (without a computer) if that printer is set up with PictBridge.

Polaroid PDC 5080 Digital Camera

Strengths: Small size; Clear Pictures

Weakness: None so far

I ran across this camera as a packaged deal at about $90.00, which included a 256 mb SD card. So far, I have been very pleased with the quality of photos and ease of use on the basic functions. If you are looking for a reasonably priced camera for you or someone you are needing to buy a gift for, you won't be disappointed. My very first digital camera was a Polaroid at over twice the price, without pixels, zoom, etc. I decided I'd give Polaroid another try, as I was very pleased with my older camera.
