General Electric 279581Strengths: It is one of the best phones that will ever hit the market. It has great features and everything that one would ever want in a phone. Weakness: None It is like getting two phones for the price of one. I got this phone for about 30 $ and within a week, I realized that this was the phone I had always wanted. It has everything, answering machine, caller ID, phonebook, expandable handset capability, etc. And best of all it requires only one phone jack! It has a sleek design and easy to use features. Keypads on both the instruments are comfortable to use and unlike most other phones out there, it has less static noise during conversations.Ringers are loud and clear. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Static when phone is not in use.Weakness: Cordless base has static when its sitting not being used. When the cordless base is not being used it emits a static that is loud enough to keep my wife and I awake at night. We have to hide the unit in the closet under some clothes to muffle the sound. I tried to call GE about it but couldn't get to a person. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Nice Product...Strengths: I like the fact that it has both a cordless phone and a corded phone. I like the security of having a phone even if I forget to charge the cordless one. Weakness: Buttons are small. I am older and would like to have bigger buttons on this product. Overall I am satisfied with this product. It sounds clear and no one has a problem hearing me when I am talking to them either. I was very impressed with the price. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Strengths: Get functionality of 2 phones with one phone jack, corded will work if power outage, 2.4 GHz for clarity
Weakness: Speakerphone could be higher quality
My wife and I just moved into a new house and did not have any phone in the downstairs family room. I did not want to buy just a cordless like we have now because I work from home sometimes and don't want to worry about the phone dying during a teleconference.
This combo was definitely the answer for us, as it provides a full featured corded base that will still function as a regular phone during a power outage (this overcomes one of the disadvantages with having just a cordless phone setup). Plus now we have another phone (the cordless one) that we can take and use in another room if desired because it has its own charger cradle that can be placed wherever.
PROs:
- 2 2.4 GHz phones from a single phone jack, one being corded for power outages
- Speakerphone capability (could be better though)
- Digital Answering machine if desired (we already have an answering machine working upstairs)
- Caller ID capability (we don't pay for this particular service right now)
- Intercom capability between the cordless phone and the corded base phone, which is a nice touch for when my wife wants to "page" me while I am watching the game or something :)
CONs:
- Speakerphone did not seem to have quite enough volume during my first teleconference call
Conclusion:
Overall this phone served the purpose we were looking for, and I think it will work fine for us. We did look at a similar Vtech model, but I read too many online reviews that said it failed within the first year or so. I also looked at a similar Uniden model (gets high marks for call clarity), but it did not seem as sturdy as this model. We have had a basic GE cordless phone/answering machine for the last several years that has worked fine for us too.
