JE1460BF Countertop MicrowaveStrengths: Great styling. Will look good on anyone`s counter. Weakness: Door snaps closed, could be softer. My reasons for purchasing this oven were style and past experiences with GE products. This oven is fast,efficent and stylish. It cooks faster than my old oven of similar wattage with five strips of bacon done to perfection in three minutes. Looks good, cooks good and is easy on the electric bill. GE Microwave Model JE1460BFStrengths: None Weakness: Noisy; turntable rattles Takes longer to microwave an item than to use old fashioned stove! Bought it and tried to cook frozen vegetables. Still cold after 10 minutes. Then tried to melt 2 tbs of butter. Still cold and hard after 10 minutes. Exchanged for different one thinking it was just a lemon. Same thing. Consumer Reports "Best Buy" and Very Handsome
Strengths: Efficient: Takes less time than other ovens of similar wattage to cook same quantity of food. Attractive -- no external cosmetic imperfections. Control panel reasonably standard. Sensor cooking.
Weakness: One-year Warranty Only -- Extended warranty for sale on GE Web site. Very light construction; households with children might have reservations. Oven tilts on 3 legs unless shim placed under fourth.
On opening the box, one is immediately struck by how handsome this microwave oven (MO) is. Not only does it have no external dings, but it just looks efficient and well-designed. The interior looks huge, and CR says it is one of the largest in this class. It has the same wattage as my two previous MOs, but cooks the same food much faster. The express feature (press a numeric button and it immediately runs for that time in minutes) is handy, but takes some getting used to. The sensor cooking feature was highly recommended by Consumer Reports, but I don't understand it and have yet to use it. On the downside, the warranty is only one year, but MO warranty lengths have been declining over the last several years. GE sells a two-year extended warranty for only $48 (4 years for $95); in the past extended warranties were a waste of money, but I am seriously considering this one. This oven is light; the metal case seems incredibly thin. Adults will find it easy to pick up and clean, but children could easily damage it externally. I had to put a shim under one leg; otherwise it tilted back and forth on three points.
