HP (Hewlett-Packard) Notebook Expansion Base

Strengths: Raises laptop's monitor to eye level. Wireless keyboard and mouse give freedom to maneuver.

Weakness: Only compatible for certain models of Compaq and HP laptops.

HP should make more, if not all, of their laptops as well as Compaq's compatible with this Expansion Base. However, the wireless keyboard and mouse will work on most laptops. It's a great product.

HP (Hewlett-Packard) Notebook Expansion Base

Strengths: This port replicator is very nice in that it has a multitude of places where I can connect the various components that I have with for my computer. It's also convienient and provides ample space for laptop.

Weakness: I think that the only downside to this item is that it doesn't allow you to adjust the way the laptop sits in the base. So if I want to move the back down so that the laptop sits down just like as if it was on my desk. Also this base only has one firew

This is a very good item if you are looking for a simple base that will fit your HP laptops. If you are looking to expand the items that you can connect to your laptop this is a good transitional item. Although it could have some things that could be changed to make it easier to use it is well worth the money.

HP (Hewlett-Packard) Notebook Expansion Base

Strengths: Delivers power to my notebook through the port instead of the broken AC connection.

Weakness: Big and cumbersome

The expansion base was a good solution for a notebook that had overheated, rendering the AC connection useless. I am not overly impressed with the wireless mouse.. it doesn't work very well. Considering some advice that the computer was unfixable without spending a lot of money, this product was an economical solution that solved our immediate problem.

HP (Hewlett-Packard) Notebook Expansion Base

Strengths: The expansion base is very solid, has many ports

Weakness: it stil lacks some ports

Generally I like this expansion base. It also comes with wireless keyboard and mouse combo, but the mouse looks so cheap. The base has lot of ports/connections such as 6 USB2.0, but lack firewire, serial, spid ports, and there is no ports at left side. The altec lansing speak is not as goodas my $10 altec lansing speaking.

HP (Hewlett-Packard) Notebook Expansion Base

Strengths: It allows for more room on the desk. It utilizes the laptop screen so I don't have to buy another one. It holds the screen up high and is easier to read. There is a very nice volume control right on the front face of the speakers. The wireless keyboa

Weakness: None that I have found yet.

This is the best expansion base I have ever used. It utilizes my laptop screen instead of making me buy a new one, and also allows for more desk space. The wireless keyboard and mouse that came with it give me more freedom than I imagined. I wish I could carry my expansion base with me everywhere I take my laptop!

HP (Hewlett-Packard) Notebook Expansion Base

Strengths: plenty of ports and built-in speakers

Weakness: bulky, had a hard configuring the wireless keyboard mouse. It worked intermittently.

Overall, it does what it's suppose to do, but the footprint is almost as large as a regular desktop and a long time was spent trying to configure the wireless mouse that for some reason would not sync up with the unit but worked well just being attached directly to the notebook. Now it works but occassionally goofs up and I'll have to resort to the direct plug in to the notebook.

HP (Hewlett-Packard) Notebook Expansion Base

Strengths: This item is easy to install & the speakers have great sound.

I feel that this product is well made and will be a great benefit to my staff. The wireless mouse and keyboard make this product "a must" for staff people who don't care for a notebook keyboard or touchpad.

HP (Hewlett-Packard) Notebook Expansion Base

Strengths: Great expansion capability, easy to hook up, $50 rebate cuts down on the competition greatly.

Weakness: wirless keyboard and mouse sucked and lack a full figured firewire port or two, annoying high pitched sound emitted.

I have a Compaq R3000 notebook. It is heavy and gets uncomfortable quickly if I set it on my lap as it was meant to be. Here comes in the notebook expansion base. I got it at one of the PriceGrabber storefronts for cheap + it qualified for the $50 HP rebate, awesome.

The item is well made and easy to setup. One special built-in cable plug into the special notebook port is all you needed to be able to charge the notebook, access the 6 extra USB 2.0 ports, coaxial SPDIF digital audio out, and etc... For me, the extra USB 2.0 ports are extremely useful. Now I can permanantely plug in all my external stuff like external HD, external DVD burner, wireless keyboard/mous, 2 printers, etc.. And the coaxial SPDIF port is cool too. I am able to connect it to my Dolby Digital 5.1 speaker system and enjoy some awesome sounds when playing DVD's. Oh, I disabled the built-in front speakers. They are pretty weak.

On the bad side, for all the real estate it occupies, I wish it had 1 or 2 firewire ports. Come on, not everything is USB 2.0! Firewire is so much faster too. Oh, and the wireless keyboard and mouse are subpar. I think logitech made them. But I installed logitech driver on my mac and it did not recognize them as such. The keyboard is loud and feels not as good as my old Microsoft wireless optical desktop set. The mouse is huge. Then again, I am probably biased because I am used to my other set.

Overall, a great deal. Buy a powerful desktop replacement notebook and buy this (make sure the model # matches), and you got yourself a great setup. Take advantage of it while the $50 rebate lasts!

Update: recently, I have discovered that upon plug in my notebook into the base, the base started to emit an very noticable high pitched sound. Very very annoying. Is this normal? I am contacting the HP to try to get it resolved. This is simply unacceptable.

HP (Hewlett-Packard) Notebook Expansion Base

Strengths: Just what I wanted! Perfect in every way! :O)

Weakness: NONE!

Very simple to hook up and very easy to use. I was kind of worried it would not work with my HP note book but it did. With the $50.00 rebate from HP you can not beat it. It ads so much to your laptop. I will buy again from them. This is a great item for an even greater price.
