Is it real sapphire?

I got my Movado today as a gift which I've been dreaming of,it is an amazing piece of work,I loved it so much,but i accidentally scratched the sapphire with my fingernail,the blue surface went off,and I could see the metal inside,now i am wondering is it real sapphire or just what it looks like(or a layer of paint)?I am kind of dispointed.

This watch is stunning! It is stainless steel with an an black face with the signature Movado sapphire. This watch has the distinction of being "Swiss Made" with "Swiss Movement" which just adds to the prestige of the watch. Definitely better than those Fossil watches I have had in the past.
