Nikon MC-36 Multi-Function Remote

Strengths: Typical Nikon Quality! Convenient, well designed and constructed!

Weakness: No storage case included or offered...

The Nikon MC-36 Multi-Function Remote is a great addition for a tripod-mounted camera, insuring exposures without the chance of movement possible when attempting to engage the shutter release otherwise. The MC-36 is the replacement for the now discontinued MC-20, with some added and improved features. This device offers an electric sound speaker, shutter release active lamp, an interval timer, long exposure, self-timer, time exposure and a release hold mechanism. The control mounts to the 10-pin connector socket on the front of the D200 (and other compatible models) and securely attaches with a twist lock ring, unlike the cheap alternatives that simply plug in and can easily become unattached. The MC-36 provides a smooth delicate trigger function with a feel more like the shutter release on the camera body rather than the mechanical feel of the MC-30. The cord is adequately long at about 33 inches, and an extension (MC-21) is available for those who require even more distance from the camera. My only complaint is the lack of a storage case for an accessory this pricey and delicate, but in all fairness that should be considered a minor issue easily resolved with a small aftermarket bag.

My 1st Remote Release Product

Strengths: Extra Feature over some basic cable release remote

Weakness: nil

The MC-36 has some features over a basic $10 cable release, such as a "bulb" setting and an intervalometer, but they're not all that useful for most photographers. And while we're at it, for this amount of money an on/off switch and an extra metre of cable would have been nice. But it is well-built and it works.

Nikon MC-36 Remote

Strengths: It does everything a remote should and then some

Weakness: High cost, requires additional AAA batteries

This thing will do everything and some for the "pro" series of Nikons. Time exposures, delayed time exposures, multiple time exposures, and of course a single exposure. Very necessary item for anyone taking long exposure shots.
