Xerox DocuMate 510 Flatbed ScannerStrengths: Reasonable size, quality unit, ADF seems to be excellent Weakness: For the price you can be an all-in-one machine, but it wont have all the scanning features of the Xerox 510 This is a terrific scanner for heavy duty home use or medium duty business use. The ADF allows you to scan multi-page documents reasonably quickly and hassle free. The software seems good and automatically creates PDF files. 90% of readers found this review helpful. Documate 510 (Xerox)Strengths: Will scan B Weakness: Does not really work with Vista if you have an older serial number. I downloaded all the vista drivers and software. Tech support told me that it is always going to crash doing grayscale or color scans. If you are using Vista or plan to upgrade don 67% of readers found this review helpful. Xerox DocuMate 510 Flatbed ScannerStrengths: fast scans Weakness: tech support, conflicts with existing hardware Easy but time consuming installation. My HP printer/scanner quit printing. Tech support said the problem was with the HP and HP said the problem was with Documate. Overall, a very frustrating, time consuming and expensive problem. I will be returning the scanner. 60% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Xerox DocuMate 510 Flatbed Scanner
Strengths: Document feeder, fast scans, great software, scans legal through feeder, easy set-up and install
Weakness: Occaisional jams, big compared to most scanners, expensive compared to plain flatbed, no buttons
I scan all my documents for electronic storage and have wanted one with an ADF for a long time. I also haven't liked the print quality, features, and speed of the all-in-one's and prefer to have separate units for printing and scanning. The ADF works great and rarely jams. I've scanned in a stack of 20 pages at once without a problem. It will scan up to legal size in the ADF. As a flatbed, it will scan up to letter size. The input tray on the document feeder makes flatbed scanning a bit awkward due to its weight, but not too difficult. The hinges expand for book scanning. I love the Paperport software it comes with (version 9 deluxe). It integrates seamlessly with the scanner and transfers images instantly without a delay. The scan window allows you to easily adjust settings such as color/B&W, light/dark, contrast, and resolution. The scan quality is as good as any scanner I have used. It can be set up to store documents in PDF format automatically. This makes sharing scans easy because everyone has acrobat reader. You can also stack and modify the documents while they are in PDF format - I was concerned they would be read only. PDF files are previewed as thumbnails in the document manager. It also comes with Textbridge software to convert scanned text to Word. This scanner does not have "one-touch" buttons for copying or e-mailing, so this is not for the technically challenged. These functions, however, are easy to do within Paperport.
