Plantronics MX153-M1 Mobile Headset For Motorola

Strengths: Clarity,Comfort,noise reduction,adjustability

Weakness: No volume control on the headset. Does not work well with earrings, my wife wants a different model.

I have been using Plantronics headsets for a number of years and this is the best model I have used yet. The hook over your ear is gone. There are no parts to loose. The sound quality is excellent along with the noise cancellation. I don't know how they get the noise cancellation to work but it does. I have used other brands (Jabra) but they don't compare to the quality and comfort you get from Plantronics. Years ago I had the ear clip on a Plantronics headset break I called the local distributor about the problem and they sent me out a replacement part free the next day. I am sold on there customer service.

Plantronics MX153-M1 Mobile Headset For Motorola

Strengths: Clarity and Features

Weakness: Only comes with one spare sponge foam cover for earpiece.

Can you hear me now? Good! I'm no headset geek, but I like what I hear out of this thing. Definitely way better all around audio quality than the the handset speaker and it's comfortable to boot. I have a Motorola v265 phone and this is the only headset I found that offers one touch operation by pushing the button on the cord to answer/end calls, and operate the voice actvated commands without touching or opening up the handset. Push the button once, and name dial, by saying a stored name, or digit dial, by just saying a string of digits in one continuos sequence, and you're connected! You can also access voicemail, redial, and a calls received list without touching and/or opening the handset through this feature. A lot safer driving as far as I'm concerned.

Plantronics MX153-M1 Mobile Headset For Motorola

Strengths: Extrememly high quality microphone. I was very surprised how clear my voice was to to others.

Weakness: Odd fit. Not at all uncomfortable, but unusual.

The quality is quite high - for the price, it is fantastic. It is a bit odd to have the headset clip under the ear, not at all uncomfortable, but needs a bit of getting used to. I left myself a few voicemails and was blown away by the quality. At this price, hard to imagine anything better.

The listening quality is good, but I use etymotic earphones with my iPod and so am used to having earphones in my ear with top quality sound.

Plantronics MX153-M1 Mobile Headset For Motorola

Strengths: Comfortable with glasses, send/end button compatible with Motorla phones, affordable.

Weakness: Difficult to put on while driving, wired.

I bought this headset for $18 from buy.com. The MX153 clips onto my earlobe. You get used to it quickly, and more importantly, it doesn't interfere with wearing glasses (some of the other brands, such as Jabra, go over the ear). The other main advantage is a button on the cord which allows voice dialing from my Motorola V710. I couldn't find any other non-Bluetooth headsets with booms that had this feature.

Plantronics MX153-M1 Mobile Headset For Motorola

Strengths: Lightweight, comfortable, and reasonably priced.

Weakness: Weak microphone, possible flaw in "end call" button

Excellent service and shipping time from Upgradesource.com. Takes a little time to find a comfortable position where the earbud doesn't move around and the clip doesn't pinch your ear but once familiarized it's fairly comfortable and secure. I have to speak a little louder than usual for people to hear me with this boom mic. The on/off or answer/send button only seems to work in answering the phone but not ending the call. Instead, when pressed it will re-dial original call or take me to "recent dialed calls" menu. I've followed the Moto T720's manual to no avail in getting the "end call" feature to work. I'm going to experiment a bit more before decidedly saying the button doesn't work as advertised. I'd be happy to hear from anyone who's experienced and/or solved the problem.

Plantronics MX153-M1 Mobile Headset For Motorola

Strengths: Works as expected. Able to answer or end call with one touch button.

Weakness: no volume or mute control;

Sound quality is very good for both listening and speaking. Although easy enough to use, ear grip does not feel strong enough for stability. I am able to keep it on for an hour or more without any discomfort.

Plantronics MX153-M1 Mobile Headset For Motorola

Strengths: Small, Stays in Ear

Weakness: Microphone Positioning for Others to Hear

Mic has to be in just the right spot, or others can't hear very well (a few people have said they couldn't hear me well). Can't seem to get the button to work for voice activated dialing. Not a bad product, but you have to work to get it in the right positions.

Plantronics MX153-M1 Mobile Headset For Motorola

Strengths: Clarity & Comfort

Weakness: Volume Control Not Adjustable

A quality, comfortable, clear sounding, headset. Can't beat the price, available from the Price Grabber link as low as $21.97 delivered. I like the fact that the Answer/End Call Button accesses features with the phone closed, unlike the M150 model. Volume seems adequate so far, but need further testing under extreme conditions to fully evaluate that feature. All in all, very good quality and value accessory which I would highly recommend to enhance safety and convenience, particularly for the road warrior.

Plantronics MX153-M1 Mobile Headset For Motorola

Strengths: Great microphone and noise cancellation, excellent sound and volume, good build quality, comfortable

Weakness: A bit awkward to put on while driving (and the instructions advise against it for safety!)

8/31/2004: UPDATE

I am adding a correction to this review, as I have since learned how to properly use the Plantronics headset.

First, my apologies to Plantronics for criticizing their product when it works perfectly; however, I do think that a slight design change or at least a simple instruction sheet would have helped me avoid this usage problem, or discover it sooner.

I previously commented that the earbud volume for this unit was too low when used with my Motorola V400. Technically, this was the case, as I could barely hear the caller in a noisy environment. The reason for this, as I discovered last night, is that the headset was not positioned properly in my ear.

If the 'boom' microphone is oriented so that it is touching, or very near to the side of your face, it causes the earbud to be angled so that its speaker is not pointed directly in your ear (it points out the bad of your ear lobe). If you simply move the microphone about 1-2 inches away from your face, the earbud angles to point directly in your ear, and it makes a HUGE difference.

With the earbud *properly* positioned, the sound is fantastic--loud, full range with great lower frequencies, and super clear. And, as I was told during a call, keeping the microphone very close to your mouth causes distortion, as it is apparently more sensitive than other headsets that I have used.

If the earbud swivelled from side to side, or if there were an instructive insert with the product that explained this positioning process, I think it would be useful for many people.

So, after figuring out how to properly position the headset, I give this product a top rating--it is excellent, and I am now very glad that I purchased it. Highly recommended!

---------- ORIGINAL REVIEW ----------

I bought this headset for use with my Motorola V400. I have gone through 3 of the Motorola brand headsets because the poor quality wiring apparently breaks and causes the sound to cut out. I looked to Plantronics, since they pretty much own the market on high quality headsets.

I think that this is a good quality headset, but when used with my V400, the sound volume simply isn't loud enough for me to use in a noisy or outdoor environment, even with the phone volume on its highest setting. When driving on the freeway, I am barely able to hear the caller, even if I press the earbud into my ear. When trying to talk with someone outdoors recently, I could barely hear them and had to sit in my car during the call. Also, compared to the Motorola headset, the sound quality is not quite as good, as it lacks lower frequencies and has boosted high frequencies.

The Motorola headset is very loud by comparison at the same setting, and I can hear the caller fine while driving. Given this, I can't really use the Plantronics while driving, so I am going to use this headset for indoor use or perhaps just at home where there is little noise.

On the other hand, the boom microphone is much better than the Motorola headset (non-boom microphone). The voicedial works alot better with the Plantronics--I can speak normally , versus the Motorola where I have to hold the mic to my mouth and speak loudly to get it to recognize the name.

I have not been able to try this headset on other phones, so I don't know if the volume will vary by cell phone model. It could be an impedance factor that varies by phone, but without testing, it's hard to tell.

My next purchase will probably be one of the Plantronics models with a volume control, such as the M135.

Plantronics MX153-M1 Mobile Headset For Motorola

Strengths: The ear piece is comfortable to wear and has good sound quality.

Weakness: none

I had previously owned the MX150 model of this brand and am very happy with the MX153. It operates just as well as the MX150 model but with an added feature of a voice operation button that can be used to operate a voice command in starting and ending a call.
