TITANIC: SPECIAL COLLECTOR'S EDITION (1997) -...

Every ploy that can be used in the movie IS used and intelligent and discerning moviegoers, expecting a good movie considering how much Cameron was given to make this thing, we had every reason to expect that it would be GOOD, are consigned to the fiery pits of hell for three hours. Whenever Billy Zane came onto the screen, I felt like I was expected to bristle, hiss and boo. Likewise whenever Kate and Leo appeared, I was supposed to sigh, sniff back a tear and reach for the hand of the person closest to me, even if I didn't know them. Their tragedy became OUR tragedy. Puh-leeze! This movie had all the subtlety of being slapped in the face with a frozen turkey. The poor boy-rich girl plot and verbal fireworks were done much better with Han Solo and Princess Leia. At least those two did something heroic, like saving the galaxy! The same can't be said for Leo and Kate who confined their action to the back seat of a car..

Delivers on what it sets out to do. Dialogue is corny and the love story is hardly believable, but it is incredibly well crafted and the overall story of the Titanic is brilliantly told.

TITANIC CUTS THRU, IN A TRIUMPHANT FINALE, SPLASHIN...

Strengths: I Say Just about 98% percent of the whole movie!!

Weakness: No weaknesses at all, The general public should just be aware, of what they watch, UM theres profesional critics, so yup that might save u a trip or a bad comment about things u dont understand!!!!

Unlike everybody else, just includin the critics, know how to choose a movie of my likin. But um the critics don't they just feel they have to say out their mind and make a bad comment, trust me when u watch a movie, nobody puts a gun to your head, you have a choice!!! Just be mature about stuff and think things twice.. THE MOVIE WAS GREAT OVERALL!!!

Classic Story

Strengths: Romantic and relaxing movie

If you are the romantic type, this is a great movie. If you're not, this movie is too mushy for you. It's a fun-loving/lost love movie. Kids should be able to watch most of it.

titanic

Strengths: everything

Weakness: none

this movie is the best movie ever made! i'm sure it will go down in history. Everything in this movie makes you believe that its real. The love story just makes it even better than the sinking of "the unsinkable ship".

"Get the gas masks, Martha! Here comes a stinker!" I guess being a chick flick is Hollywood's answer. This was completely implausable in the class-ridden British society of the time.

First thing is first. If u scroll down. hpulba had written a comment saying this movie was underrated. This movie is the highest-selling movie in the US and the world, and won 11 Academy Awards, more than any other movie. So what the hell were you talking about? Second, Robin Hood if you are going to bash a movie by saying dumb dumb and dumber, make sure you spell dumber correctly. This movie was a great movie, acting was kinda shady, but a great movie overall.

Dumb, dumb and dummer. Don't seem to see the director making anything these days so maybe there is some justice in the world. A rip-off, Super 35mm is just another version of the cheap Superscope that came out in the 1950's. Only good fim shoot in that process was "Vera Cruz".

This movie is way overrated. It is a good movie but not sensational. Why all that hype? I don't get it. I hated the Leonardo/Kate storyline. Just an average love story. The effects were very nice, and the stories around the two of them were touching. And it is way too long for my taste.

I can't believe this movie is so underrated. It made me cry badly at the end! I do care about what happened to the Titanic, but the charactors gave life to the story. I still cry every time I watch it. (Well, nearly.) One problem though, it was a bit too long.

An especially good movie once you look past Leo to see the whole story. Like the song, hate it being overplayed, even several years after the release date. Love Cameron's attention to detail in replicating the look and feel of that time and place.

This movie admittedly was very well made. The sinking of Titanic was true to life, very realistic, but the romance was lame and very unrealistic. Watch it just for the history of a major tragedy. The movie was so over commercialized if i ever hear that Celine Deon song again I'll scream.

I enjoyed the sequences about the ship sinking, which were mostly helped along by the bit part actors. But the main performances (DiCaprio, Winslet, Paxton) left a lot to be desired, especially Paxton, who has not shadow of acting talent.

By the middle of the movie, I was ready to root for the iceberg. Long on dialouge and short on plot, the movie passes like molasses in Antartica. The acting is atrocious, the plot predictable (even without the sinking!). It just goes to prove that popularity does not always mean quality.

Why is it that you could eat in the finest of restaurants and still have bad food? The money spend for this movie could have revigorated the economy of a small 3-rd world country. And what is the result?Love story between social classes?Yeah, very entertaining.A young Picasso on his way to America?Yeah, very realistic.A bad upper class vilain spiting on the heads of the poor?Pleaaassseee.....Ok the sinking of the ship was excellent, but who cares?Like I said, you can have crapy meals in the finest of restaurants.

I've seen this movie a million times. I do like it. THe concept of it is very interesting, and I like the story line. I actually like the second half better then the first, even though I like the romance thing, it gets a bit out of hand at parts. I like the drama of the other part. Makes the movie more exciting.

Great special effects, Allright artwork (I don't care what anyone says. The girl in the Nude drawing DID NOT look like Rose because Rose was a full figured girl whereas this woman was a pale skinny thing with warped breasts.) Poor acting by Leonardo DiCaprio and no mention whatsoever of the seccond class.

A terrible film that deserves to be "sunk" (cool pun fully intended!) Entirely predictable, the film, instead of focusing on the plot of the ship or the fascinating technical blunders that occured, focus on a yawn-inducing romance. Of course, the ending is obvious to anyone who knows history...but...I wrote a short story (used as a prologue in a story of my own) where the crew of the Enterprise (along with such allies as Mario, Sonic, some Power Rangers, etc.) save the Titanic and introduce the lead male character to video games and fast food, therby preventing the nude paintings from occuring. :) I also snuck in a cameo of Mr. Limpet and a reference to Ariel, Starfleet's first mermaid. :)

The first time I went to see Titanic at the theatre, I had bought one of those 32 oz fountain drinks. I was so engulfed in the movie that I hardly drank any of my drink, and in the last 30 minutes of the movie, the bottom of my cup fell out and spilled all over my lap ! But the movie was so good I sat there in the soda and finished watching it. I can say no movie has ever touched me this much to put up with that..lol. But in any event, I went to see the TITANIC the next weekend without any accidents, and I loved it the 2nd time as well. I have seen it several times since then at home, and still never get tired of it. This is one of 2 movies that I actually loved to see Leo DiCaprio star in. The first being Gilbert Grape. I still don't have any idea how he pulled it off. I also love the theme song by Celine Dion. Excellent film and soundtrack ! I recommend the movie to all families !

Another remake, of one of the greatest tragedies of all time. I suggest you watch *It Happened One Night* to get a more accurate version of the sinking of the Titanic. Celine Dion has a great voice, but that song nearly drove me over the edge. James Cameron should take a very early retirement from directing.

Great set, excellent effects, awesome costumes . . . . everything else, I could have done without. I have to give credit where credit's due, this was visually incredible, which is why I give it three stars. The storyline was on the nauseating side, and the main character (Rose) was just irritating. If you like sappy love stories, this is for you.

TITANIC: SPECIAL COLLECTOR'S EDITION (1997) -...

I tried to watch this, I really did. But right from the start, the film was not compelling to me. Bill Paxton is one of the first faces you see, and although he seems to have some gifts of late in directing his own films, he is a TERRIBLE actor. I could see no reason at all why an ancient old lady would take a helicopter ride out to the site of the wreck in order to tell her story. What, don't you have a TELEPHONE? The story takes place in 1996 after all. Leo Dicaprio is not a bad actor really, but the love story was the usual claptrap out of the Hollywood script bin, and was completely unrealistic. How the hell this won best picture is beyond my comprehension. James Cameron's The Abyss and the original Terminator had more compelling characters and better presented love stories, frankly. Dances with Wolves (another overrated best picture) was a better film than Titanic, but I honestly think they both won best pic only bacause audiences were surprised at themselves for being able to sit thru 3+ hours of film.

Back when I first went and saw this I thought it was pretty good. But the more I thought about it and after seeing it a few more times here and there, I realized that this really wasn't that great at all. Sure the boat and the sinking looked real and all that, but so much of the movie was so unrealistic and unnecassary.

This movie was great! It was much better than Pearl Harbor (which was OK). The special effects were simply astounding, espescially when the ship was sinking. The characters were really well-developed, and I did in fact enjoy the love story that was going on. However, I have noticed, as have others, that these characters, with the exception perhaps of Billy Zane (Hockley) did not look like the people that lived in 1912 thus did not resemble the people that may have been on the Titanic. Overall, a very good film- a true classic indeed.

Had I been rating this right after I saw it for the first time, I probably would have given it at least four stars and maybe five. Like so many movies, it was so impressive on the big screen. The ship looked like the behemoth it was in real life on the big screen. You could almost feel the bow slam into the water after the ship broke into two pieces. Also, when the lifeboats finally turned around and came looking for survivors, it was absolutely chilling to see the people bobbing in the water, their faces frozen with a look of sheer terror. The problems I have with the film have been mentioned by other reviewers: the actors certainly don't behave like real people from the early part of the century, and a lot of the acting is wooden (particularly by Billy Zane). The film is way too long as well. On first viewing, the three hours just zoomed by, but after seeing it a couple more times, you just wish they would get on with it, and get to the sinking of the ship. The special effects were very impressive in that area. Don't get me wrong, it is a film well worth seeing, but I would recommend renting instead of buying.

What a sad, useless thing was created here. The acting sucked. It was porrly directed. The woman had barely any boobs. This movie totally mocked the whole concept of a boat sinking. I saw it once and had to go home and watch forty-eight hours of Back To The Future, Indiana Jones, and Rocky to clear my mind of this crap.

The ship was beautiful. The special effects, especially during the sinking, were breath-taking. And the plot could have been superb, were it not for the fact that these actors did not act like 1912 people, did not talk like them, and did not demonstrate the moral values of that time. In the real event, there were heroes all over that ship. But in the movie, we were treated to more of Hollywood's class warfare mindset, making it appear (falsely) that the rich people were kicking aside the poor people. Another point: why does Hollywood think there was no second class on the Titanic? Everyone was first or third. But the movie did put my wife in a romantic mood, which is more than I can do, so I'll always appreciate that.

I have to give it a point for great special effects but this movie had problems. The two rebels who were the stars weren't 1912 people. They were kids from the 90s transported with their attitudes into 1912. Did they think they were doing Back To The Future 4? How many young ladies in 1912 do you seriously think went around flipping people off? Not only that, but it was so stereotypical. One quintessential example is when our soft-hearted hero notes, "Half of the people on this ship are going to die!" Then the "rich" guy replies, "Not the better half." All that was missing was a glass of champagne in the hand of this cartoonish character. And it may have been okay for a cartoon, but we're expected to take it serioiusly! Just before I saw the movie I saw a documentary on the true story of the Titanic. What impressed me was the courage and chivalry of many of the people who went down with the ship. But the movie totally disregarded all of that in favor of a more cynical perspective. The only "heroes" were the two spoiled brats who were at the center of it all. Then isn't it sweet how Rose, as an old woman, has refrained from any other man for decades because of her sentimental attachment to a young rebel she had an illigitimate romp with decades earlier? I'm sorry but it's just too unbelievable to be any good.

Chick Flick. Even the soundtrack is a "chick soundtrack." I like to think of myself as a fairly sensitive guy, but this is so overdone that I had to force myself to watch the entire, lengthy piece. The characters are more like caricatures and the acting was simply acceptable. Very overrated.

TITANIC: SPECIAL COLLECTOR'S EDITION (1997) -...

The naysayers may think otherwise, but "Titanic" is one of the best movies of modern times and will go down in history as a genuine classic. I guarantee people will be watching and weeping over it 60 years from now, much like we do today with "Gone With the Wind."Sure, the dialogue was somewhat corny, but you can't deny the heartfelt and realistic performances of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet- they had great chemistry as the leads and made us truly connect with their characters. The supporting actors were very good as well, and I liked how well the filmmakers matched the modern actors with the real historic figures from 1912 (Molly Brown, Capt. Smith, Bruce Ismay, etc.) After seeing "Pearl Harbor," I've learned to appreciate how much better "Titanic" is; where "Pearl" failed, "Titanic" succeeded. It was successful because we really got to make an emotional investment in the characters, the ship, and the entire setting. Unlike "Pearl," where you were praying for the bombing to begin, in "Titanic" you were just praying they would somehow miss the iceberg!! The sinking sequences and historic drama of what the people onboard went through are realistic and heart-wrenching; you truly feel the tragic impact- I remember sobbing uncontrolably the second time I saw "Titanic" and cried several other times in subsequent viewings. Call me a sap, but that's what a good movie is supposed to do to you- it takes you into the world of the characters and you feel the tragedy as much as they do. The musical score by James Horner is a classic and I love the Celtic flutes and whistles- they added an interesting touch to the soundtrack, and of course "My Heart Will Go On" is a beautiful song with a universal theme, not just related to the film. Gloria Stuart was robbed of an Oscar in her amazing performance as old Rose, but at least the film won the 11 other Oscars it deserved.

One star because of the music. I HATED this movie! What was the Academy high on when they made this win best picture? Leonardo DiCaprio can't even play dead, he's such a horrible actor. And no one else did much better. Plus, it was about three hours and fourteen minutes too long. If you don't get what I'm implying, please see me. It was such a pointless movie. I have no plans to ever see it again.

TITANIC: SPECIAL COLLECTOR'S EDITION (1997) -...

Titanic...oh, what is there to say!? First, I will tell you that I am 16 years old and since I've been old enough to comprehend what I heard or seen, I have studied everything I could get my hands on about the RMS Titanic and it's maiden voyage, sinking, it's victims and survivors, where it is now and what it has become in the last 89 years, etc. etc. It fascinates me..I can't even put into words...So, when the movie came out...Ooh, i was thrilled. Although the relationship between Jack and Rose is fictional, the tragedy of that fateful night was so incredibly real...those people and what they went through...This movie provides an excellent look at the ship, inside and out, and puts the viewer there with them. And every time i see it, I cry. I feel for the people that died with the ship in 1912, and the feelings that the survivors lived with for the rest of their lives. So what if you don't like Leo D. or Kate W...deal with it. It's a small price to pay for such a wonderful look at the story behind the Titanic of 1912.

TITANIC: SPECIAL COLLECTOR'S EDITION (1997) -...

When this first came out I did not want to see it. I though,"I know what happends anyway, people go on ship, ship sinks, people die. Plus I hate that leonardo dicaprio" While that was tragic, I didn't think is should be a movie. So it wasn't until it was released again in the theaters that I was finally draged to go see it. I can honestly say I'm glad I saw it on the big sceen. The story was superb, the acting was superb(even leonardo dicaprio),and the music went very well with each part of the movie. The directing and set was the best i've ever seen, it makes you feel like your there, the feel of the movie is so well portraid that each character, even small roles are a integral part in this flim. I can go on and on about the magnificent directing and charcter development, but the only way anyone can understand is if they see it for themselves.

This was a really great movie. I've seen it a million times and I still like it. I'm not really a fan of romantic sort of movies, but this one I liked. It's a bit of a chick flick, but it's a good one. It even has a bit of humour in it despite the movie being about a horrible tragedy. It's a long movie, but it is a good one.

TITANIC: SPECIAL COLLECTOR'S EDITION (1997) -...

I saw this movie with my girlfriend, at that time, and I have to admit that I was entertained for all three hours without boredom, but I can't imagine watching the movie more than once. I thought that young Rose was a complete spoiled brat, definitely the kind of women I like, and she probably cost Jack his life. It sucks for men who have hearts, because when a man does fall in love with a woman he will give his life for her. I have fallen in love twice, and I would give my life for these two women without question. When a man really loves a woman he knows it inside of himself without denial, even if he never speaks of it. You find that as a man you care more about her health and happiness more than your own, and that's when you know that you have fallen in love. If she's happier with that other goy, you accept it with all of the hidden tears. You feel this way even if she hates you forever. It can suck loving a woman that doesn't love you back, but that's life a lot of times tough it out. As I've said I've fallen in love twice, and I was lucky enough to have one of the two women love me back, not everyone's that lucky. When you find love, even if it's just for a little while, hold onto it, remember it. That's life, that's what it is all about. This movie opened up that level of people's hearts, and maybe it was just for a little while, but atleast some important lessons were mentioned. My favorite scene is at the dinner table. Jack's congenial sly demeanor reminds me of myself at many occasions similar to that one. "I don't care if you have more money than me. I'm still superior to you." If women needed to learn anything from this movie it is this, if a man ever tells you he loves you, be it verbally, or more importantly in a letter, or poem, if the words are genuine to your heart, reach out in return to him, because life is short and being a man of deliberate countenance I have to say that if I take the time to tell a woman I love you, that means I love you. Listen up people, life will pass you by, and sometimes being a man in love is the most difficult thing in the world (not to say that it's easy for women), but for a man to hand a woman his heart is a very serious moment for both people. In closing, this movie was both educational and touching I hope that society takes the time to learn, but somehow I feel that it didn't even make a dent.

What a waste! Fabulous costumes, great sets, great special effects. The script is lousy! Not only does the dialogue rip it out of its historical context, but why focus on a lame love story for three hours when there were so many fascinating stories aboard the real ship? James Cameron should be flogged.

Shallow, one-dimensional characters, a predictable plot (boy meets girl, boy and girl go on fateful boat trip), and bad acting characterizes this epic. The only saving grace of this film is the amazing special effects. Viewers cannot help but ask at the film's end, "why did this win and Oscar?"

Woah, what's it doing way down here? Sure you're sick of it but you're the ones who watched it a million times. This was one of the best movies ever made, very touching. and not just the leo kate thing. I didn't however, like the fact that James Cameron didn't even dedicate his work to any of the original Titanic crew or there families. He just used the story line to sell tickets, people died and they should be tributed.

Is there a higher rating? My review for this movie might exceed anyone elses here. The people who are bad-mouthing Titanic can not see between the line of criticism. James Cameron has created a substantial film for history (as far as the CGI visual splender) and this love story should have enough touching moments to carry the most heartless of us through the 3-plus hours of "nasty co-stars," the small amount of "cheesy dialoge," the "intensity of drowning," and all the "horrible floating bodies."I've been a Cameron fan since The Terminator, he's never disappointed me (with his movies) and if he keeps making his masterpieces, I could never get tired of seeing movies.

A mostly unqualified triumph for Cameron, who offers a dizzying blend of spectacular visuals and old-fashioned melodrama.
