Very nice GPS

Strengths: Accurate, small, runs on batteries, text-to-speech, very easy to use.

Weakness: Manual is just not helpful at all, keyboard layout is in alphabetical order instead of QWERTY.

This is a great little unit that does more than the Lexus factory GPS that I've used. I was thinking of getting the C330 because of the lower price (over $100 less) and there would be no wait. However, I decided that the wait and extra cost would be worth it because the C340 has the latest maps, info, and the text-to-speech feature. So far, I'm very satisfied. The C340 is very accurate. It has been able to guide me to all the places that I wanted to go to. I can search by address, POI, intersection, and more. It's especially handy driving at night in residential areas where small street signs are hard to see. The C340 displays the streets as I drive and would tell me what street is coming up next. Having this unit gives me the confidence to drive through unfamiliar areas without getting lost and wasting gas, which is nice considering the cost of fuel these days.

The drawbacks of the C340 is that the manual is very terse; it doesn't tell you anything more than what you can easily find out for yourself by playing with the unit. Good thing is that the unit is very easy to use. Another thing, and one that's more important, is that the keyboard layout is not QWERTY. It's laid out in alphabetical order so it makes typing a bit of a chore. Also, it would be nice if certain keys would disappear in a process of elimination as you type to reflect only possible matches. That is, if you're looking for, say, "First" street, once you type "Fir" only certain letters should remain because only certain streets in the database start with these three letters. This feature is on at least the Lexus factory GPS (2002). Other than that, I can say that the C340 is better than the Lexus GPS in every way.

The text-to-speech feature is nice in that you don't get the generic "in 400 feet, turn right." The actual street name is announced so there would be no confusion and no need to look at the screen. However, this technology doesn't seem to have improved much since I last played with it over 10 years ago. The sound is easily recognizable as computer simulated. It's still a nice feature to have, though, and its advantage easily outweighs the small negative just mentioned. There are other "languages" to choose from, including 2 other kinds of English, that actually sound better than the one with text-to-speech. If you don't care much for text-to-speech, you have the option of selecting a different voice.

Lastly, I really like the extensive POI database. I've been able to find almost every POI I could think of. The C340 is definitely a useful and fun unit to have. Highly recommended!

Amazing GPS for the price!

Strengths: Easy user interface, responsive touch screen, awesome navigational accuracy and options

Weakness: display not large or bright enough to see well in bright sunlight

This product is amazing. There are other GPS units with similar features but this one has the right price and right size. It practically fits in my pocket which is a plus since I would never leave a $600+ GPS in my car mounted to the window in clear view. The best part is the user interface and Touch Screen responsiveness. Compared to the Magellan 360, this unit has a much better user interface. Also, the Navigator NT database has MANY more places in it than the Magellan unit. They are also easier to find than Magellan's 360. This GPS also comes preloaded with all of its maps. You can not beat that! The Text to Speech option works great. It is kind of funny to hear American-Jill talk sometimes but mostly her words are just fine and easy to understand. Reception on this is great too. I can put it in the windshield or on my lap in the passenger seat and still get great reception. If you are looking for anything other than a vehicle navigation GPS, then this unit is not for you. It is 100% for vehicle use. It times your trip, top speed, average speed, travel time, stopped time, time to destination, etc. It even will show a simulated speedometer. Very neat! The Streetpilot 27xx might have more features but the cost is much higher and the size of that unit is huge compared to the c340. By the way, the c340 is well worth the money compared to the i5. i5 is nice but the c340 is much better. My only real c340 complaint is that the keyboard is NOT QWERTY. It's ABC. Garmin also has a great web site, easy updates, troubleshooting, etc. Garmin really has the whole package.

StreetPilot c340 GPS Navigator

Strengths: This is a great little navigator. Easy to install, right out of the box. Had it working in less than 20 minutes. Very accurate even in rural areas like where I live.

Weakness: Sometimes uses road names I am not familiar with instead of route numbers but this was not a serious problem

I highly recommend this product. I bought one for my daughter and when I saw how easily it set up and how easy it was to use I bought one for myself. It is a very good investment.

Great Product

Strengths: Mostly accurate, extremely inuitive design, small enough to lock in the glove box.

Weakness: On the county routes it doesn't give you the actual street name just CR-567. In my town CR-567 is Readington Rd

Out of the box the c340 Streetpilot was a godsend. Over the time I have owned it has performed outstandingly. A great product. I highly recommend it. Buy it and you won't be disappointed.

For a midline GPS, the StreetPilot c340 delivers!

Strengths: Intuitive features, great response, works right out of the box

Weakness: Needs anti-glare screen

You can buy more expensive GPS units, but the StreetPilot c340 delivers what it promises.

Without reading the manual, the touch menu-screen is very intuitive. You only have two opening options: (1) view map or (2) where do you want to go. Just plug in the info and you're on your way. Some of the favorite locations are already programmed in. You can use these or create your own. The beauty of the touch screen is the lack of buttons, making a larger screen more possible.

The only major weakness is the need for an anti-glare screen. In bright sunlight the c340 reflects off of my light jacket making it difficult to read.

You can spend close to $1000 for a GPS, but you won't get that many more features than you'll find on the c340!

best bang for the buck

Strengths: touchscreen, 6 million poi,

Weakness: some newer streets missing, occasionally tells you wrong street name

If you want a great gps system and don't care about XM radio, traffic, bluetooth, etc, get this one! It has great features, including text to speech (it tells you the actual street names), touchscreen, and built in maps. The one I bought already had the newest operating system, so I did not have to update it as some of the earlier buyers had to (there is an included cable to use if you need to update it, and this is a very easy process).

For some odd reason, some of the streets it tells you to turn on are correct, but it will give you the wrong name even though it is clearly written on the map! This may be due to maps that were not updated when they were put into the database. This has not been a major problem.

It's also tiny, and super easy to take out of the car if you are worried about someone stealing it. Like I said, if you are looking for a great GPS for your car, this is it.

Garmin StreetPilot C340

Strengths: Everything. Easy to use. I like the new traffic alert feature.

Weakness: Maps need updating to at least within 3 months before receiving product.

It has been the best investment I have ever made. My husband loses all sense of direction and just relies on me for help. I happy that the streetpilot can now guide him without me there. It will definitely help us anywhere we go. It is a good buy and I would recommend it to everyone.

StreetPilot c340

Strengths: Easy to use right out of the box. Came with simple instruction manual. Gives highway names, not just route numbers. Comes with several voices options. Excellent sound - easy to understand.

Weakness: None encountered yet.

Received as a Christmas present. Set-up at my daughter's home in VA, mounted it in her car, spelled the name of a local Leesburg shopping mall into device and it took me there with no problems. On way home to PA it showed me several different routes that I could have taken. While driving around home without a destination entered it shows up-coming intersections with either the route number or highway name. I read other reviews for the c340 at another site where it talked about freeze-ups. I have yet to experience one. I don't know how I ever lived without a GPS system, it's the best present I have received in a lone time.

GARMIN STREET PILOT C330

Strengths: Excellent Price! Very well Made, Durable! All Accessories Included! Totally Plug and Play! Easy to Use! Fun to Have! A real time Saver! Everyone who drives should own one!

Weakness: The only weakness that I found is you need to Power the GPS down then Power it up again when crossing from one state to another via a Ferry because the GPS needs to Re-Calibrate to get a Bearing.

For half the Price of the competition The Garmin StreetPilot c330 is FANTASTIC!
Simply attach it with the Included Suction Cup Holder to the inside of your windshield just under your rear view mirror, plug it into your cigarette lighter receptical and thats it!
Upon Power Up The GPS acquires a satellite then calibrates automatically!
Then just Key in where you want to go on the Touch Screen and your off!
The Garmin not only Displays the Road map on it's Screen, it Talks to you giving step by step directions, you can't get lost. Even if you misses a turn the Garmin will Re-Calculate then Re-Direct you to get back on track!!!

My Best $450 Investment/Toy

Strengths: Easy to use. Tells you the street name, not just turn left/right. Millions of POI, can find gas stations, food, lodging, grocery/shopping, attractions easily. 8 hr battery life. Strong suction mount.

Weakness: Depending on your surrounding, may take 1+ minute to get satellite signal. AC charger not provided but can connect to your PC. Only provide quite reference guide. Need to download full manual.

Paid less than $450 shipped from PCNation.com. Tried it in east+westcoast. Absolutely fantastic. No more wasting time on paper maps and getting lost. C340 is worth the extra $$$ over C330 'cos it tells you the street name instead of just turn left/right. Find addresses, gas stations, food, lodging, grocery/shopping, attractions, etc at your finger tip. Easy windshield mounting. Long battery life for indoor trip planning. Contains maps for all US & Canada. No external memory card needed. Only problem: can't leave it in the car.

Garmin C340 - Great Unit

Strengths: Easy to use - all the features I need

Weakness: Sometimes not enough advance notice on turns

The Garmin C340 has given renewed confidence to both my wife and 18 yr old daughter. This easy to use unit and a cell phone are all they need to confidently go just about anywhere (and give Dad a little more rest). Guys, get this for your loved ones. Hey, I love it too. Always gets me there.
Out of town soccer trips - no problem. Mapquest - I fart in your general direction !

Worthy Product

Strengths: easy to use right out of the box, very straightfoward, price

Weakness: Maybe a little too straightfoward, screen is not easy to see in sunlight

This is exactly what it says it is. Gets you from point A to B- I live in NYC so that usually sends me all around back streets to get me where I am going with little logic. The Unit does not take traffic lights into consideration when it comes to fastest route- so a lot of its use is unsatisfactory to me in NYC (the belt parkway moves fater than 30 traffic lights from queens to brooklyn). I only got it just in case I get lost and for that it works well. Unlike what I have read on the web regarding the c340, I never had any lockups or any technical glitches at all- I even downloaded new voices off of the garmin website with ease and installed it just as well. If you are a tech nut or just curious about what this unit can do for you just read the 20 page manual, there really isn't more than what meets the eye. Being too straightfoward doesn't give me the sense that it can do so much more than A to B.
I never tried any other GPS products so I can't compare and contrast, but I chose this one because it's not pumped up with useless crap like mp3 player or bluetooth that only works for few phones (on verizon) or foreign language dictionaries. The suction cup is marvolous and is very small unlike the TomTom. The unit itself is pretty small but the dimensions don't really let you carry it around in your pocket, if you are looking for that go with the Nuvi. Other notes of concern that I found on the web was the voice telling you only close to the turn to turn- this is true! But I expect garmin to fix that as well on a new update.
This is definitely worth the 600 I payed for it, and I'm happy with the purchase.

Wife Saver

Strengths: Extremley easy to use, Out of of the box ready, Compact design, Good voice instructions, Did I say EASY to Operate!

Weakness: Too many positives to worry about the few dislikes.

If you have a wife who could be on a one-way street heading to the North Pole and can not tell you which way North is. This is a must for her. Not taking anything away from my wife , but she has ZERO sense of direction. I purchased this unit for her and from the first minute she had it a new adventure in her life opened up. She had always depended on cell phone and calls to me at work to guide her to her destinations. This unit has not only set her free but she was able to grasp and become 100% proficient it the use of this unit in a matter of minutes. You can not go wrong with this unit!

Garmin c340

Strengths: Very easy-to-use interface. Quick satellite acquisition, and reasonably accurate routes.

Weakness: Limited configurability. No QWERTY keyboard. Screen obscured by direct sunlight

Other than the comments listed above, the c340 performs well. I've had the opportunity to compare it with the lowrance 350c. Although the lowrance unit offers more features, e.g., mp3 player, etc. the garmin c340 had much better basic navigation performance.

Great buy, great device!

Strengths: Great navigation, we never got lost...not even in Boston. Recaculates new routes and talks to us.

Weakness: If you wear polarized sunglasses, screen is difficult to see.

We bought it to help us navigate in Boston. Worked perfectly! I was first skeptical and brought the old backup maps and Mapquest directions. But as we started our trip we never used them. This is a great tech toy. I cannot believe how perfectly it works.

So far, so great!

Strengths: Easy to naviagte through features, voice prompts are clear, has gotten me where I asked it to, not too bulky

Weakness: listed below

Overall this thing is great!
My nitpicks are:
• instructions to turn are sometimes given awfully close to the turn- in LA traffic, advance notice is sometimes a must in order to get into the proper lane, especially when needing to get on an on/off ramp at moderate speed in traffic!
• I wish she didn't tell me to "follow highlighted route" at the beginning of every trip- I get it, already!
• no options for mounting without adhesive for California drivers (who can't suction mount to windshield/windows). I lease my car so I can't use an adhesive mount on my dash- I had to "jury-rig" a solution for this product.
• gets me where I'm going, now- can it find parking?? (said in jest)

Garmin StreetPilot c340 GPS Navigator

Strengths: Small in size, nice bright color screen, good voice prompt

Weakness: Must have cradle attached to charge unit

Garmin StreetPilot c340 GPS Navigator. I just received this today and it is my first GPS unit. So I do not have anything to compare it to. However, I was impressed with the ease of set up (all the maps are already loaded into the unit from the factory). The unit is small and light weight and was easy to set up without even reading the manual. It came with the battery already charged and therefore I didn't have to charge it prior to setting it up (that was nice, since it only comes with the 12v car cigarette lighter adapter for charging, so you can't charge it inside the house without buying an extra adapter). Also, it must have a clear view of the sky in order to set it up, so I had to place it next to a window for it to get it's bearings. After that it was fine.

FYI - you can also charge the unit by connecting it to your USB port with the computer running, or so I was told.

Great GPS for the money!

Strengths: Small, light weight, accurate

Weakness: No QWERTY keyboard for entering data

The Garmin C340 is a very small GPS with a color touch screen. I basically took it out of the box and started using it with little problems in setting it up! A QWERTY keyboard layout would be a little more helpful in entering street names, but a nice feature is that once you have entered enough characters for a city or street name it gives you a list of choices to choose from - so I haven't had to type in any full names yet. The text to speech is handy so you don't have to actually look at the unit to get directions, however, the advance warning about turns, etc. isn't very far in advance of the turn, so you may be passing your turn when the voice tells you to turn. I have noticed that sometimes when it comes to streets 'merging' into other streets, it does not give you a voice prompt telling you to merge left or right, however the indicated path on the display shows it. I like it!

Just one gripe

Strengths: text-to-speech, internal battery, easy mount

Weakness: No one-way street indications

I must point out one big weakness of the device...namely, the maps to do not show if a street is one way. This is extremely annoying for someone who likes to simply innovate once in a while in trying to get to a destination. The data MUST be available internally (as its taken into consideration when coming up with directions), so don't understand why it couldn't be made available to the user visually.

Excellent and compact GPS

Strengths: Text-to-Speech is very useful since it lets you look at the traffic instead of looking at the GPS when you need to make a turn.

Weakness: Voice is too computerized, can't customize display to view current speed instead of estimaed time of arrival. Doesn't come with a bean bag for a second car.

This unit is a must have for people who travel a lot or have problems with getting around. It's compact and very intuitive, ideal for non computer-savvy users.

c340, speaking street name not helpful

Strengths: Speedy processing, Easy volume ctrl, 8hrs battery life.

Weakness: no pre-alerts before turns, cannot drag on map, cannot waypoint on map.

I had MagellanRoadmate2000, and my wife wanted another gps with SpeakingStreetName feature, so I bought this GarminC340.

SpeakingStName may sound like a new feature to you, but it is not really useful. Because; c340 says "Right turn on Main street" from where the street is miles ahead and the sign is invisible. Then it repeats right at the intersection. When we found the street name while driving, it is too late to turn, so we usually pass the Main street, then ooops.

Meanwhile, Magellans' Roadmate2000 gives several warnings (in number distance) before we miss a turn. It says "Right turn ahead" always 1 mile before the Main street, then warns again before the intersection "Right turn ahead 500 ft." so we slow down and prepare for a turn. And then again it rings at the turn, so we know for sure it's the right spot to turn.

Another weakpoint of C340 is that doesn't allow dragging on the map (to view neighbor city in same zoom). Also, it does not allow to choose a waypoint by clicking on map. (You should input exact address to choose.) Roadmate2k allows these two.

As C340 was about 40% more expensive than Roadmate2k, I would recommend Roadmate2k although Roadmate2k has some weakpoints too. (e.g. Roadmt needs Re-boot once a week. Roadmt runs only 2-3 hrs after a charge. but it is a great unit and is much cheaper.)

C340 street pilot

Strengths: Gives precise directions and recalculates promptly.

Weakness: Does not announce actual street names

The C340 is very user-friendly. Control panel is clear and non-cluttered. Compact enough so as not to distract the driver's view. I would highly recommend this unit to any new person and any person that currently has another Garmin or other brand product.

Garmin C340 GPS

Strengths: Extremely easy to use interface. Lots of info on resturants, stores, malls etc. Great speech to text

Weakness: Display has too much reflection and cannot see screen in direct sunligh

This GPS is the best overall from the ones currently in the market for this price range. It has text to speech feature. It has real time traffic info, but has to be paid for. The negatives are small screen and reflection is greater that lit LCD taht you cannot see it in direct sunlight.

Caveat Emptor! No Support for Garmin C340

Strengths: Good GPS in 2006

Weakness: No support in 2009

The current price for the C340 is great --- I paid $800 in Jan. 2006. However, buyers beware: Garmin no longer supports this GPS. I wanted to up-date the maps (June 2009). Customer service told me that 1. I had to buy an up-date made for their new line of GPS for $120 (check the current price of the unit) and 2. the up-date would not fit into the memory of the C340. Garmin no longer provided up-dated maps for the Street Pilot. Customer service cheerfully informed me that the solution would be to buy several SD memory cards to which sectional maps of the USA could be downloaded. As I drove from place to place I could insert a new card into the unit. Aside from the inconvenience and awkwardness of carrying a half dozen cards around, their 'solution' (I don't think their engineers went to MIT) means that you cannot plot a trip from Washington, DC to Chicago or anywhere else outside the region where you live. I will never buy another Garmin for my car or for my boat. Like Detroit, Garmin has forgotten an important fact: they have competitors and brand loyalty disappears when the customer is stiffed.

Works Great

Strengths: Easy to use; Quickly acquires signal; Has found over 99% of the places I want to go.

Weakness: Bulky.

It is a good product and works as advertised. The product has all the necessary basics -- voice prompts, clean interface, good signal, etc. Have recommended this product to others. Price is reasonable.

StreetPilot c340 GPS (City/Vehicle, 3.5" LCD)

Strengths: Compact, voice prompts include street names, intuitive software, good clarity on voice prompts all at a good price.

Weakness: At $155 there isn't any weakness.

Compact, worked perfect out of the box, great price. This unit did everything I was looking for including voice prompts for street names. A friend recommended the unit, so I went with it as well. Simply a good GPS at a great price. I had no problems or issues.

Best thing since sliced bread!

Strengths: It will get you where you are going!!

Weakness: Some roads in new developments are not on here, even after updating. But it still get the job done. It still beats using a map the old fashion way!

I have owned the c340 and decided to buy my father one. It may be a "dated" gps due to it's size, but who cares if you are only going to using it in the car, plus it is a $100 - $300 less than other models with the same features. It works perfect and the text to speech directions are great. I'm a Realtor and using the Garmin saves me countless hours each week planning routes when looking at houses. It is absolutely wonderful finding restaurants or getting phone numbers to make reservations.

Garmin c340 GPS - a nice unit for first timers.

Strengths: Easy to use. Clear screen. Good sound. Many features. Lots of points of interest. Text to speech is worth the extra cost. Great first unit.

Weakness: Nothing major - a couple of times the signal was lost, but mostly in remote areas.

This is our first GPS unit and it's great. Easy to use out of the box. Many features are great to have and easy to use - like restaurants, gas, attractions, etc. The extra cost for the text to speech was worth it. It's nice to hear street names to help navigate. This is a good unit at a good price

Good GPS

Strengths: Very friendly and easy interface.

Weakness: Sometimes when I use any of the saved address from my favorites it takes time to load, its kinda of slow but otherwise it is perfect and fast.

It has all what you need. You can find all the important locations there builtin, and the best thing is when you don't have the address you can type the name of the place you want to go and it will gives you a list with all places have that name. I'm very happy with it and I really recommend it.

Garmin Street Pilot C340 is a great GPS!

Strengths: Very accurate. The voice commands are most helpful.

Weakness: On rare occasions, it seems to lose satellite reception and the directions are off.

Overall, the Garmin Street Pilot C340 is a wonderful GPS system. I purchased one for my husband and another for one of my sons for Christmas. When my younger son returns from his mission, I will purchase one for him too!

Great first GPS

Strengths: Easy to read screen, easy to work interface

Weakness: Little slow, older maps

First GPS unit, accurate, loud, and easy readable and usable. Nice features, little slow recalculating but worked well, good amount of POI's, older model but great for older people (bought for my parents) and they are not tech savy and they used it well

Best gadget ever.

Strengths: Easy to use

Weakness: None

I just turned it on and it works great. I havn't opened the instructions yet. My son lives 2 hours away and the Street Pilot 340c showed me how to cut 20 minutes off the trip.

Nearly Perfect

Strengths: Easy to use. Very accurate location info. Incredible amount of technology & information in a very small package.

Weakness: When testing in familiar territory, a couple times the routes the unit recommended were unnecessarily long and circuitous. The unit is unable to "learn" shortcut routes. Timely updates not available.

Despite my negative comments, this is a great unit. If it could learn shortcuts (for use by other drivers), and if map downloads were updated to show new turnpike ramps, etc., it'd be excellent.

Great

Strengths: Simple

Weakness: Wish they have "You are here" button to show the address where I'm because sometimes you don't know where you are when you are lost.

Simple & easy to use. Navigation through menu is easy as well. The speakers are loud enough. It doesn't have MP3 player, photo, etc. but it does good job for what it's being made for. Overall, it's pretty good!

I would buy again

Strengths: Simple to operate

Weakness: some addresses not available even tho long established

very good product for the money and for first time GPS users. The fact that you can take it out of the box and start using it right away without loading any software is a nice feature. The size of the instruction booklet gives you a clue that is simple to operate.

Great!

Strengths: Love the turn by turn guidance

Weakness: a little bulky but oh well

Great to use. Gives turn by turn directions...love it so far. helps when it mentions the name of the street ( text to speech feature). A little bulky but i don't mind it.

Garmin c340

Strengths: 6 million points of interest, quick, intuitive searches for locations

Weakness: There should be more easy way to save current location .

maybe I'm doing something wrong but a search on walmart in a walmart parking lot produced no hits, but the Lowes next door ins on the list. Entering reviews into this system is a test of patience.

GREAT GPS FOR THE $$$$$

Strengths: Tells street name when approaching turns. Lots of POI's. Very accurate even in congested city areas.

Weakness: Sometimes is slow (a minute or two) initially acquiring satellites.

Bought this unit for trips because I work at home. So I didn't need traffic services or bluetooth technology. I used it right out of the box for a trip from Boston to Long Island, NY. Made getting to and from the ferry a breeze, our Marriott was listed in the POI's and gave us a great route. Due to storm we had to take a different ferry home and the 340 had the location in it's memory and got us there better than the GPS in my brother's new BMW.

StreetPilot c340 GPS

Strengths: extremely easy to use.

Weakness: many times took us in a circle. we could see a particular interstate sign to exit, yet it took us in the opposite direction! It got us where we needed to go, but seemed to be very much roundabout way.

Easy to use. Easy to "go home" no matter where you are. Would like to see capability to enter my own specific routes at this price point. Screen view is outstanding no matter the time of day or weather conditions. I like the fact it converts to night view automatically.

Garmin C340-Its Grrrrreeeeeeaaaat!

Strengths: Very Easy to use. Very good touch screens. You name it, this has it. Believe me when i say.. I am a CHEAP-SKATE.. I admit it. THIS is WORTH its weight in gold(I should know in Dec/05 I paid $700.00)

Weakness: There are a couple things. 1. The NON anti glare screen is a problem at times, and 2 it sometimes cant find certain things. I dont know why, there are a FEW places it wont find, but 99% accurate!

If mine died, I would for SURE buy another Garmin product. Very good company, and reliable. If you are one of those people who gets lost inside a paper sack, this is for you. It truly has gotten me out of SOOO many JAMS, I cannot begin to tell you. Next to a house(In this market though, that might not even be true anymore) this Garmin will be the BEST investment you EVER made!

Grandma Friendly

Strengths: So very easy to use.

Weakness: Haven't found one yet.

This Grandma loves this sweet little thing. It is so easy to use and very helpful for a traveling Grandma. My daughter lives in Philly, and I feel like I can get anywhere with the c340. If it could only manage the traffic! I love the way it just redirects you if you can't make a turn because you could't make a lane change or whatever. I was recently towing a new travel trailer to my new camping lot and it got me there with no problems. It not easy to find a place to turn around 40 feet of vehicles, and with the c340 I didn't need to worry about that. This c340 will be with me everywhere I go.

Excellent unit overall

Strengths: I love all the usual features plus the spoken street names, huge database of N. America built in w/o using computer, plus the traffic receiver option is brilliant. I love the portability

Weakness: It sometimes has me exiting freeways onto the frontage exit/on-ramp lanes for no apparent reason. bizzare!

Everything works quite well almost 100% of the time. It has a neat feature to find things you ask for ranked by their nearest proximity to you. The documentation and software updaters are lousy or buggy. Their support when I had to call had a very long wait but was actually helpful. I have even upgraded the unit's firmware and maps since I bought it. The updates are not free. I wish they were easier. There is an SD slot on the side but apparently there is no reason why you would ever need it. The memory in the unit holds ALL of North America, so you don't need any extra memory. Maybe they were thinking of an MP3 player, but the speaker on the unit isn't very large. There is an internal battery which can run it w/o the car power cord, unless you want to use the traffic receiver. That requires power from the car be used. If you use their updater, make sure to turn off the USB driver's power saving feature in Windows. There is no Mac support, but the Garmin utilities work under Parallels on the Mac. *Make sure to turn off Windows' USB power saving, even under Parallels.

GPS StreetPilot c340 - Satisfied customer!

Strengths: Easy to use. Good screen visibility. Clear directions and having a voise prompt with street names is invaluable.

A very user friendly GPS which will save a fortune in buying maps. The unit was very intuitive and is proving to be a sensible addition to the family - saves a lot of heated map reading discussions.

fell in love with it

Strengths: Easy to use, Accurate, good audio

Weakness: hard to read in bright sunlight

Took it on a trip to Florida from upstate NY. It gave added confidence to get off I 95 and avoid delays due to accidents etc. use a parallel road and get back on when convenient. Found us motels and restaurants wherever we where. If your tired of junk food on the interstates this baby will find you a nearby restaurant and guide you to it. You can drive forever and when ready ask for the nearest motel,(call it on your cell), and it guides you to it. Saves all that preplanning for motels and restaurants, no more guide books. Love it.... Got to buy some Garmin stock.

Garmin StreetPilot C340 Portable Navigator

Strengths: User friendly, names every street in advance at least twice before arrival, battery life is long without car charger, plus it won't shut off all of a sudden, it beeps and gives you a small window that the battery is low, system is light weight and easy t

Weakness: Sometimes it confuses itself with right or left, but this happens while arriving to a street and only once in awhile, thank God!! This might be bad if you're out there late at night and can't see the house numbers! I might also freeze up or get stuck,

Overall, I love my Garmin C340 since now I have to travel in Westchester to do my job. I might not find about a handful of addresses because they might be literally in the boondocks........lol. I figured that I either entered it incorrectly or the GPS can't find it. This small matter has not hampened much thank God......nothing to cry home about. I ended up buying one for my 23 year old son just to have. Now he can travel whereever with his friends and never get lost........great safety and tracking measure!

Navigational Device

Strengths: Gets you where you are going if you are lost

Weakness: Sometimes uses the very long way

Some streets are not included on this device. I called the company and a nice gentleman guided me as to where to make my feeling known on the web site. So far I have not heard feedback from the company, but in general I am satisfied with the unit. Still early and I really have not used it that much. Looking forward to successful experiences in the future.

Very nice unit

Strengths: Very accurate directions, ability to look up businesses, update via usb, directions are very audible, bright display, responsive touch screen.

Weakness: None so far

I have been wanting to buy a GPS for a while, but i was delaying cause all the units I kept finding had low ratings. Finally, i had come across a unit with high reviews, so of course trusting other users I purchased one for myself. This unit is perfect. I've used other GPS devices before and some of them got me so lost that it delayed me for an hour or so. I don't anticipate a problem with this one. I didn't realize how many features were hidden inside, i love the ability to look of businesses, find gas stations, and an extra is the fact that it can track your speed, distance traveled, time stopped, and time moving. Overall, I highly recommend this product!

Garmin's C340

Strengths: User friendly, well worth the price, and maps are easy to read and use.

Weakness: Some of the fuels, lodging and restaurants under the POI's pre-loaded are not current for my area.

I like using the Garmin c340. The interface for road use is quite easy to use. Right out of the box make sure to download and update the webupdater mode for the software patches. I hope Garmin updates the software with regards to a patch for POI's that are pre-loaded with regards to being current, i.e. fuel, hotel, restaurant is still in business, etc. I like the touch screen interface. I think that Garmin could provide one touch screen saver to place over the screen to protect. Then later we as consumers could purchase more of these screen saver protectors from Garmin, just like the one's available for PDA's.
