Konica Minolta 5d

Strengths: Anti shake and large viewing screen

Weakness: Needs new flash can't use old one from Minolta Maxxum 5

Been waiting for this camera so I could use my lenses from my 35mm Minolta Maxxum. The quality is great, 35mm quality and digital teamed up makes for awesome pictures without the wait.

Minolta Maxxum 5D

Strengths: Anti-Shake, Processing Speed, Quality Pictures, Large Bright Display

Weakness: No anti-scratch screen for the large display

This camera is a great purchase and an even better gift! Which is what happened to me. I have an older Minolta Maxxum 3Xi film camera and the lenses fit it and work perfectly. - Extra Bonus! I've seen LCD display covers for other cameras and wondered why Minolta never made one for the 5D. I'd hate to get a scratch on the LCD Panel. Guess I have to be careful.

Bottom Line: Best camera I've ever owned.

an amazing Camera

Strengths: Built-in Anti-Shake Performance with All Maxxum System lens,Big, Bright 2.5-inch LCD with Navigation Display,Comprehensive Image Adjustment and Control for Creative Photography

Weakness: The grip feeling is a little small and not as good as 7D. Focus ability is not very good at some dark place. Without ultrasonic CCD clean function.

This camera is a great purchase. It is really good under dark light with the AS fuction. Actually all your lens are free upgrated to AS lens. And the picture quality and color control are very good.

This is an amazing Camera!

Strengths: Easy to use, have great image quality, low noise at high ISO, and the AS is a winner. It's size is perfect for my hands (the 7D was a bit big for me - and much more expensive).

Weakness: none so far

This DSLR is as good as it gets in the "Pro-sumer" (advanced amateur...wannabe pro) category. The Konica Minolta Maxxum 5D is as good (or better) than all the others in its class (e.g, Nikon and Canon) but comes with the anti-shake feature. It is also among the least expensive in its class. Get it while you still can.

Very good but a bit short of expectations

Strengths: 1) Compatible with decades of A-mount lenses 2) In-camera stabilization adds value to every lens 3) Buttons/dials allow control of most functions without taking your eye from the viewfinder

Weakness: 1) AF-assist is not infrared so you blind your subjects 2) LCD is dust magnet and resolution can make it hard to check focus 3) Takes a while to learn layout and functions

This is my third digital camera but first SLR of any kind, so my perspective is different from Maxxum film SLR users upgrading to digital. My first digital was a Sony point-and-shoot that I still use, and my second was a Panasonic Fz20 that I sold to buy the 5D.

I've tried the camera with a Minolta 70-210 f3.5-4.5 as well as the 18-70 kit lens that I bought second-hand. The true optical viewfinder is a huge leap forward from the electronic version on the Fz20. The 5D's LCD is big, but somehow not as useful as the ones on my other cameras. The pixel density on those combined with their zooming from the outside in made checking focus a breeze. With the 5D, you hit magnify and zoom in so close that pictures look fuzzy even if the focus is fine. Also, the LCD screen seems to have more static attraction for dust and picks up scratches more readily than those of my past cameras. Definitely pick up a screen protector.

I loved the Fz20's stabilized lens so the Minolta was an obvious choice. It's just my opinion, but I'm not sure that the 5D's in-camera version works quite as well as the Panasonic's lens-based system. I'm also getting used to the shallower depth of field for the Minolta, and the Fz20 was tack sharp even at max aperture. I'm sure with more practice I will be able to turn that to my advantage for more professional photos.

I upgraded to dSLR for the high ISO capabilities and I have not been disappointed. Images look great to ISO 800, and are generally usable even above that. That gives me 2-3 stops advantage over the Fz20, which should really help get those wildlife photos in challenging lighting conditions. Also, the wide angle end of the kit lens is a revelation after years of being stuck at 35 or 36mm.

In summary, the 5D is perhaps the most economical entry-level dSLR. The lens line-up is not as deep as Canon or Nikon, but 95% of users will find all the lenses they could want at a fraction of Canon/Nikon prices. Although the stabilization may not be as good as lens-based systems, it is an added feature to all lenses and keeps the weight down considerably. The ergonomics are good and the buttons and dials are positioned such that you can alter many shooting parameters without taking your eye from the viewfinder. This saves time and makes it less likely that you'll miss that critical photographic moment.

5D worth the wait

Strengths: Anti-shake, bright view finder, good ergonomics, decent price

Weakness: Shutter sound a bit loud, no vertical grip, no LCD hood

Maxxum 5D worth my long time wait for Minolta DSLR. AS works fabulous even on a fast moving ski boat. The price is just right. I do hope Minolta can get their new DT lenses available.

DCRP Review: Konica Minolta Maxxum 5D

The Konica Minolta Maxxum 5D is an easy digital SLR to recommend. It costs just over $600 (body only) and it has built-in image stabilization and great photo quality. If you already have an investment in lenses from other manufacturers then I probably wouldn't throw them away and start over with the 5D, but If you're just starting out with D-SLRs then I'd take a close look at this camera.

Konica Minolta Dynax 5D

The Konica Minolta Dynax 5D D-SLR is a fully equipped camera that is able to lift the user's photographic skills to a higher level. The CCD image sensor delivers a beautiful image. Also colour rendition is excellent. Things like the ergonomics, the ease of operation, the Anti-Shake are all aspects that make photographing with the Dynax 5D from Konica Minolta a pleasure. Konica Minolta 5D SLR

The earlier Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D was easily one of the most eagerly-awaited digital cameras in the last year or so, thanks to the legions of loyal Minolta shooters who've been so patiently waiting for a digital body. The only issues with the 7D were its size and price. With the Maxxum 5D, Konica Minolta addressed both issues without hobbling the 5D by removing features likely to be important...
