Strengths: (when it works) burn speed
Weaknesses: reliability
Summary: I had been happly burning DVD's when one day a burn took over an hour, then the second burn errored out after 30 min. Plextor says check DMA, and use good media. I used Plextors own Media that was included, bought more Maxell and TDK Checked DMA, still the DVD burner burns at .9x to 1x. Plextor does not seem like they want repair the burner under warranty. I spent over $150 a few months back and looks like I will have to buy another brand. Several years ago I had a Plextor CDROM burner, and it failed, Plextor took care of me that time, I still have that drive.

Strengths: Easy to use. Works great (fast with no errors).
Weaknesses: None so far.
Summary: This dvd burner replaces a similar LiteOn product (that went back to the store). The Plextor has no problems writing to the same type of disks that the LiteOn made nothing but coasters out of. Also the Plextor is easier to use.
I read one review that said the Plextor 708A got hot, but mine doesn't, not even slightly.
Thank you Plextor, for making such a great product.

Strengths: easy to install
fast and trouble free cd and dvd burns
Weaknesses: does not work with older Nero
Summary: I installed this drive in about 20 minutes . Loaded up the newest version of Nero and I was on my way. I did not bother
loading the Roxio software that came with it as I never cared for any of their products. burned a full cd in acouple minutes and a DVD +r in about 8-10 minutes.
I highly reccomend this burner. Got it for 217 shipped from AccuPC.

Summary: I have had 2 Plextor CD burners and they were flawless - I am seeing the same wonderful outcomes from this drive as well! With the price under $200 - it's an awesome buy!

Strengths: Everything/Large DVD+R/W DVD-R/w compatability
Weaknesses: Nothing.
Summary: Have had absolutely no trouble with this drive from day 1. Burns on all media thrown at it, including cheap media as well as higher quality media. Works extremely well with Princo DVD-R and all DVD+R. My friend bought a liteon and since seeing my drive in action and burning the discs (quite a large range as well) that the liteon rejected, he has been regretting buying a cheaper brand and saving a few dollars. Don't let yourself go through the same despair. Get it right first time and buy yourself a Plextor. You won't regret it.

Strengths: Fast, reliable, burns anything I throw at it.
Weaknesses: None so far.
Summary: Plextor has always made great burners, and this one is no exception. It is quiet, fast, and I have yet to burn a single coaster. This the Mercedes of DVD burners. You get what you pay for.

Weaknesses: Burned movie tot tdk dvd+r 4x at 8x speed with nero. Burning went smooth, but when movie played bad quality. Burned again at 4x and was perfect.
Summary: Very good writer, probably one of the best you can buy. When you buy it, buy it as OEM version because the software you get with it sucks.

Strengths: Solid design and construction (It does'nt look cheap); fast, stable and less noisy
Weaknesses: None
Summary: I've always been partial to Plextor, base on it's history of excellence in optical drive design and construction. I have used Plextor drives for years and have always had positive experience with them. This particular drive represents the latest in technology this inovative company can muster. Sure Sony introduced a very fast DVD writer (which I also own and operate), however, it's speed was surpassed by plextor's px-708a. This is the speedier, less noisier and most stable of the two. I am very satisfied with this device and will not hesitate upgrading to another drive manufactured by this company. Would I recommend a friend to buy this product? You bet I would.

Strengths: Ez install and compatable with XP home. Software bundle works fine. Burns disc fast and accurate
Weaknesses: Read time is long but as fast as any other.
Roxio does not make exact copy of compressed DVD.
Summary: I burned a compressed back up of a 6.7GB DVD to a 4.7 blank disc. REad time 20 minutes Burned in just over 8 minutes. An exact flawless copy. I own to many expensive DVD collections to have to worry about scratches ruining things. I paid twice as much for a Sony writer last year that is half as fast. It lasted just 2 months over the warranty date and made lots of coasters. My 15 year old Plextor CD rom still runs fine, I will not stray from Plextors reliability again.

Strengths: Speedy. Reads multiple formats, in fact all but the DVD-RAM.
Weaknesses: Lacks Software for Macintosh. all the Included Software is for Windows, but luckily I have Toast Titanium.
Summary: 2004-03-16 10:54:51 I was hesitant to purchase this drive at first due to being not sure if it would function well in a Mac G4, but after reading more about it. I went ahead and bought it. I replaced the DVD-RAM drive that was in my G4 Sawtooth AGP Mac. (simple to replace via Googling for installing a superdrive) Its not readily recognized by iTunes or iDVD as is widely noted by other Mac users whove upgraded either CD-RW drives or DVD drives. However, Toast Titanium recognizes it and it works well with it. I have a Plextor Premium Writer as well and Ive had good luck with Plextor. Downloading a program called Patchburn II will install drivers that allow iTunes 4.2 to work with it. the only thing now is firmware. Recently, Plextor upgraded their firmware, and there is no Macintosh Installer. Im not about to remove my DVD burner just to upgrade the firmware and Ive not seen any problems yet with the burner. Ive burned both CD-RW and DVD-Rs with no problem.

Weaknesses: Not a one.
Summary: This is my 4th Plextor drive. These are the best CD/DVD drives on the market. Don't buy anything else. Haven't been disappointed yet. I no longer make coasters. Plextor is the tops in reliability. If you plan on burning to CD or DVD this is the drive for you.
