Good ideas, but poor execution.
Strengths: Integrated DVD player for more convenience/less clutter, several options for I/O, Screen is bright and clear.
Weaknesses: Often doesn't recognize that a DVD has been inserted, Does not automatically adjust for different aspects (e.g. 16x9), Spontaneously shuts off in the middle of a movie.
Summary: I bought this unit because I needed a DVD player that was simple for young children to operate and because I expected a brand name like Toshiba to be reliable. I am very disappointed.
The picture is bright and clear, but the unit is very quirky and frustrating. First, the picture size doesn't adjust to the movie being played automatically, and so I have to look on the DVD case every time to find out what aspect ratio the movie is before I play it. This is a real pain--especially since I bought the thing so that my kids could operate it on their own.
Also, sporadically, the unit will not recognize when a DVD has been inserted--it says there is no disc. The only way I have found of dealing with it is to take another DVD and "push" the initial one in a little further. Not a big hassle, but I expect better function.
Finally, and even more frustrating, the unit will sometimes completely shut off for no apparent reason in the middle of a movie. Every time this happens, I have to turn it on, eject the disc, re-insert the disc, and then find my place in the movie again. If this had been a cheap TV I wouldn't complain, but I spent quite a bit to get a reliable, functional unit. Unfortunately I did not.
I highly recommend that you choose another brand/model.
