Strengths: Close shave. Long Battery life and easy to use.
Weaknesses: Haven't found any.
Summary: The first reviewer must have been using it backwards. I have used most all electrics, and I find this new one of Norelco's to be the best. I have been using a Braun Activator which was good, but this one gets a whole lot closer.

1 Star ReviewJust another mediocre (but expensive) razor
Strengths: Quiet
Weaknesses: Takes for ever to shave, does not shave close, cheap plastic feel, poor design
Summary: From the manufacture’s product information and from some of the reviews I was expecting (hoping) the 9170XLCC would have worked out much better. My main disappointment is how long it takes to shave, for me it is taking 14-15 minutes and really after that time you just give up. The problem is you have to go over the same areas again and again. I am also disappointed in the overall shave; this shaver will not leave your face smooth, even on the closest setting.

Beyond this there other things that are not so smart with the SmartTough razor. Quoting from the manual “The Jet Clean System thoroughly cleans but does not disinfect your razor.” Well I am not that concerned about having a sterile razor but my Braun’s cleaning solution did that. They also are recommended to rinse the razor after the cleaning cycle in complete. That seems redundant. If the cleaning solution does not disinfect and you need to rinse after it is “cleaned” why bother with the cleaning solution.

It also tells you to unplug the razor when the charge is complete or battery damage will occur. They couldn’t just have the charger shutoff or switch to a trickle change mode when the razor is charged – the light stops blinking so it knows the charge is complete.

So in summary the 9170XLCC takes 14-15 minutes to provide a mediocre shave and then you need to wait around for 15-60 minutes for the cleaning and charging cycle to complete so you can unplug the razor to prevent the battery for being damaged and then you need to rinse it out. “Sorry boss, I know I am late again but it’s not my fault. I bought this new razor and…” I don’t think so.

1 Star ReviewWorst Shaver I have EVER owned.
Strengths: Jet Clean System.
Weaknesses: Everything
Summary: 2005-11-11 19:55:18 Well Let me tell you, this is by far the worst shaver I have EVER owned.

I had originally had a Panasonic ES8080, and It broke and I wanted to replace it with the same exact model, but they didnt make them anymore.

So I searched for a Norelco and I cam upon the 9170XLCC.

You know when you hear Norelco, its the best shaver ever and you see all these commercials about it, but no, its horrible.

First off, it took me like 20 min to shave.

Second, you have to go over some spots constantly to get the long hairrs, and after your done going over 30 or 40 times, theres still hair there. I actually had to use the pop-up trimmer and look for pieces of hair and cut like that also.

Third, this made my face burn like crazy.

I jumped in the shower after shaving one day and it felt like my face was on fire.

Ill be honest, this is a very bad razor. I stopped using the 9170XLCC and went and bought the top of the line Panasonic (ES8077S) which was $50 cheaper and does alot more.

The Panasonic ES8077S which I really reccommend is cheaper, has the same Cleaning system, and is cheaper to maintain and has more fearutres than the Norelco.

Do a Google search on ES8077S, I believe I bought it from Shavers.Com

All in All, I would reccommend Panasonics Top Shavers.

Strengths: Few strokes for a perfect shave
Weaknesses: none
Summary: I dont know if the previous reviewer forgot to turn on the shaver nor if he has really used it at all. I have been using electrical shavers since 1994 and this new technology SmartTouch technology will blow your beard n stubbles away. Great shave and awesome battery life and no irritation since you need fewer strokes

1 Star ReviewAny Norelco Shaver
Strengths: None
Weaknesses: Chinese Made
Summary: I have owned/bought Norelco Shavers since my first one that I bought while in the Navy, in the ship's store some time between 68> 70, when we our ship was posted in Rota, Spain. My first one, was branded Philips, and it WAS MADE IN Holland. It was a rechargeble, which after a while could no longer be charged. So my second was their most inexpensive CORDED, which I still have. But then a few Chistmases back, I bought a NEW rechargeable one at Wal Mart, with some Christmas money received. This one is made in China, and it is THE WORST of the bunch, taking forever to shave. So most times I have gone back to hand shaving. Yesterday, while using my older corded model to trim my side burns/around my ears, I figured might as well shave too. It worked so much better than the Chinese piece of trash, as quickly closely as my Gillette hand shaver. Unfortunately as long as they are made over in Asia, I will NEVER again buy another Norleco. Too bad to, cause I always loved them.
